Irani was responding to a question in Rajya Sabha on whether the facility to study the language is available in KVs after class 8.“The facility to study the German language as addi- tional subject after class 8 is available in 32 KVs of Delhi. However, only KV Rangpuri and KV No 3 in Delhi Cantt students have opted to study German after class 8,” she said. The Government had replaced Sanskrit with Ger- man as the third language in KVs last year, contending that the arrangement violated the three language formula. Agency, Chennai AIADMK chief and former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday welcomed the Karnataka high court’s judgment acquitting her of all charges in the disproportionate assets case as a victory of justice. In a statement, Jayalalithaa thanked the people of Tamil Nadu for “reposing faith” in her and also thanked god for “the gift of people’s love”. “It is not just a victory for me, but it is a victory for the truth and the victory for the people of Tamil Nadu,” said Jayalalithaa in her statement. Earlier in the day, the HC overturned a Bengaluru trial court’s judgment and acquitted Jayalalithaa and her three associates in the disproportionate assets case that had haunted her for the last 18 years. Launching an all-out attack on the DMK, she said that the opposition could not win against her politically or electorally and tried to ruin her career through other ways but “finally justice has prevailed.” “It is the defeat of the DMK conspiracy to destroy me and AIADMK. The DMK had conspired to defame and malign my legacy and the legacy of my mentor, MGR,” said the AIADMK chief. “It gives me immense satisfaction and has removed the slander cast on me out of political vendetta. The verdict has shown I have not committed any wrong. It has helped me emerge as gold further refined by fire,” she added. She also “recalled with sorrow the demise of 233 party workers”, who lost their lives after the special court in Karnataka convicted with aides N Sasikala, VN Sudhakaran and J Elavarasi, was held guilty of holding unaccounted for income during her tenure as chief minister from 1991-96 by the trial court. Her close aide Sasikala and Sasikala’s relatives Sudhakaran and Elavarasi were fined Rs 10 crore each. Pronouncing the operative portion of the judgement, which ran into 10 volumes and over 900 pages, justice CR Kumaraswamy said, “Appeal allowed. All charges set aside. All are acquitted.” Special public prosecutor BV Acharya complained that the prosecution was denied adequate opportunity to present its case.“The prosecution was not allowed to make oral arguments,” said Acharya. “I did not expect Editor : Kapilkumar M. Dawood in Pakistan, we will get him back: Rajnath Singh Agency, New Delhi Union home minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday the Indian gov- ernment had provided “relevant documents” on gangster Dawood Ibra- him to Pakistan, but Is- lamabad had failed to start the process to track him down. Singh in- formed the House that India had credible infor- mation of Dawood being in the neighbour country, days after the govern- ment was left red-faced after it informed Parlia- ment Dawood was not in Pakistan. “We will pursue and pressurise Pakistan in tracking Dawood, In- dia will leave no stone unturned to bring him back,” Singh said, as he clarified on the govern- ment’s stand on the issue in the face of an onslaught by the opposition. “We will get Dawood Ibrahim no matter what... we are sure of that,” he said. Noting that a red-corner notice issued by Interpol had been pending against Dawood since 1996 and a UN Security Council’s special notice against him was also pending since 2006, the home minister said Pakistan was bound by international obliga- tions to locate and extra- dite him. Dawood was ac- cused of involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bomb attacks that killed 257 people and injured hun- dreds more. The Interpol has issued a Red Corner notice against him and he has been sanctioned by the US and UN. Last December, after reports suggested that a Western intelligence agency had traced Dawood to the port city of Karachi by inter- cepting his phone calls, home minister Singh said New Delhi had asked Islamabad to hand him over. Minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju, too, said the reported inter- cepts would strengthen India’s stand. But, a con- troversy broke out after minister of state for home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary recently told Lok Sabha that extradition proceedings could be ini- tiated only when Dawood was located. Opposition parties took a dig at the government on the issue. India policeman arrested for hitting woman with a brick Agency, New Delhi A policeman in the Indian capital, Delhi, has been arrested after television channels broadcast images of him attacking a woman with a brick. In the footage, the policeman hits the woman in the back with the brick after she hurls a brick at his motorbike. The video, shot by a passerby, led to outrage. The officer is now suspended. The woman, who was taking her two daughters home from school on her scooter, says the fight began after the officer asked her for a bribe. She said the policeman had stopped her for allegedly jumping a red light and demanded 200 rupees ($3; £2). The woman said she then asked for a receipt, which he refused to provide. The footage shows the woman hurling a brick first - at the officer’s motorbike. But her older daughter told the NDTV news channel that the policeman had been the first to turn violent. “When she tried to drive, uncle [the policeman] kicked the scooter and threw a stone at it. My mother picked up the stone and hit it at his bike. He twisted her arm and hit her with [the] brick,” she said. Delhi police commission BS Bassi said a criminal case had been registered against the officer. “Strict action will be taken against him. We regret that such a shameful act has been committed by a traffic policeman,” he said. The incident has caused outrage in India and many have taken to social media sites to criticise the policeman. Sessions Court suspends sentence of all Satyam convicts Agency, Hyderabad A city court on Monday suspended the prison sentence given to B. Ramalinga Raju, founder of the erstwhile Satyam Computer Services Ltd, a month after he was jailed for his role in the country’s biggest accounting fraud. Sessions court judge M. Laxman asked Raju and his brother B. Rama Raju to furnish two sureties of Rs.1 lakh each with a personal bond of Rs.1 lakh, and pay 10% of the fine imposed by a special court within two weeks of their release from jail. To be sure, this is only an interim relief for Raju. The sessions court will continue hearing Raju’s petition challenging the order of the lower court. The court also suspended the sentences of the eight other accused and asked them to furnish two sureties of Rs.50,000 each with a personal bond of Rs.50,000, in addition to 10% of the fine amount within four weeks of their release from prison. If they fail to deposit 10% of the fine before the special court that handed them the sentence, the suspension will stand revoked, judge Laxman ruled on Monday. The court also asked all the 10 convicts to give an undertaking that they “shall not seek undue adjournment” during future hearings. Among the stars: A realm of vanity and fear

During the shoot of a Pepsi commercial, I was inter-viewing Shahrukh Khan in his vanity van when Priyan-ka Chopra walked in. “Shahrukh,” she said, “I wanted to ask you about this whole pesticide thing.” Khan, who had the reputation of being one of the two superstars who was informed, who could read, even newspapers, assured her that Pepsi was fit to drink. Then the conversation changed course to extramarital affairs because Khan’s next film was about them. He told Chopra how married people con-ducted affairs, and he conveyed the information as though he had researched the subject from the lives of others. He said, as a married couple lay in their marital bed, the man may roll over and secretly send text messages to his love. Chopra put her slender fingers over her mouth and ap-peared to be astonished that people would indulge in such betrayals.I didn’t know what was going on. I still do not know what that conversation was about. The newsworthi-ness of Salman Khan gives me the opportunity to tell you of the time when I used to pass through the film industry. The history of a recent age, which is at once familiar and strange, with its morals, charades and obsolete technol-ogy, might be dreary unless it is told through beautiful people. Those were the last days of a time when giants were made — by us, to be employed by us. That is what celebrities are, our employees who are meant to entertain us with their real lives, and when they fall to make us feel we are better than them. About 12 years ago, when I was assigned by Outlook magazine to find out why the big-gest stars of the Hindi film industry were men who were around 40 years of age, I would not have imagined that three of them would survive in that form over a decade later even though they would have gone past the life ex-pectancy of Sub-Saharan countries. I interviewed most of them for the story, and as a 28-year-old what confused me about the age group was that they spoke so fondly about their work and their children but never mentioned their wives. My interview with Shahrukh Khan was in his BMW. He is a man who does not require another person to have a conversation. On ageing he told me, “Will I in-sist on acting with young girls to hide my age? Will I ever address myself in third person like these film people end up doing: ‘Shah Rukh is impressed with you. Shah Rukh is angry’?” Less than three years later when I met him during the shoot of the Pepsi commercial, he had become that person who addresses himself in the third person. Sunny Deol, who had, a few weeks before I met him, re-jected the pitch of a filmmaker saying, “I cannot die in the end. The Deols don’t die,” granted me time only to pass a rebuke to the magazine for running a bad review of his previous film. And he very cordially asked me to get lost. Suneil Shetty told me what age had done to him: “I cannot jump off the 20th floor anymore. I cannot em-barrass my daughter.” When he began his career he used to shoot for over 40 films in a year, many of which would not be released. There would be days when he would be on the sets of more than three films. That was a time when the underworld dons were venture capitalists of cinema. They poured their illicit money into films and in a way sustained the industry. Films did not have to always make a profit to be made.

Are Ranbir and Katrina getting married? Why the hell do you care?

Agency : Mumbai :“Shaadi kab karegi (When are you getting married)?” This is one line that can make a Gabbar Singh out of a harmless woman who feels murderous just once a day otherwise while trying to find an auto to work. Ideally, it should have reposed her faith in humanity - the fact that completely random aun-ties and not-so-aunties care fiercely about her ageing ovaries. But that’s if you encoun-ter it once or twice. Imag-ine that question being thrown at you as a routine. And by people who you cannot even recognise -

the girl-next-door’s aunt, your mother’s colleague’s sister or the woman who queued up right behind you at the dessert count-er at your friend’s wed-ding. Did you just sneak in a bottle of whiskey in your work bag right now? So that you can ei-ther take swigs from it to calm down or break it on someone’s head - which-ever seems more fitting? If you did, calm down. You need to take such ex-treme survival measures only if you are Katrina Kaif or Ranbir Kapoor facing that ‘omg-are-you-not-getting-married’ question.

But now spare a thought for those poor stars. Not only they have been hounded by the media, they have had their life story being written by dif-ferent media outlets. So, at one time we were told Neetu Singh cropped Ka-trina out of a family pic-ture - because you know, the new-age feminist MIL’s revenge strategy is not faking a headache and cancelling the son’s date, it’s declaring ‘hum saath saath nahin hai’ on social media. Then there was a story of how Rishi Kapoor was pissed at the sight of Kaif in her bikini, holidaying in Spain.

Agency , MumbaiThe powerful audio and dramatic video of the song “Bezubaan phir se” from “ABCD 2″ is garnering views ga-lore on YouTube since its release on the vid-eo-sharing platform May 6. Composer duo Sachin-Jigar are happy.“‘Bezubaan’ connects to the youth on the street and reflects their attitude and aspirations. We got a lot of feedback about the melody stay-ing with the audience

long after they heard it, and when we were do-ing the sequel, Remo was sure the song had to be included,” said Jigar Suraiya. “Except that in the last ‘ABCD- Any-Body Can Dance’, the song reflected the angst of a person who has been voiceless, but in the sequel ‘ABCD2′ the song ‘Bezubaan – phir se’ is about aspirations, ambition and achieving goals,” he added. Pic-turised on actors Shrad-dha Kapoor and Varun

Dhawan’s interesting dance moves, the song is sung by Vishal Dad-lani, Anushka Manchan-da and Madhav Krish-na to lyrics penned by Mayur Puri. The video’s description reads: “You have loved ‘Bezubaan’ from ‘ABCD’. Now we present a bigger and grander ‘Bezubaan – phir se. Watch Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor’s exceptional performance in this chartbuster song.”The film is directed by Remo D’Souza.

Agency, MumbaiPreity Zinta’s lenient attitude towards contestants on Nach

Baliye 7 has drawn criticism from fans, but the actress says she is not on the judge’s chair to discourage the par-ticipants. The 40-year-old ac-tress, who had earlier hosted TV shows like Up Close and Personal with Preity Zinta and Guinness World Records, said in an interview with PTI that she is not bothered by people’s notion about her. “Being on the judge’s seat is a huge responsibility because the results are not decided by

public voting. I feel personal-ly liable if anybody exits the show. The whole concept is to be fair and in such shows the difference between a win-ner and loser is one mark. So, I thought why not give them eight or nine instead of giv-ing them five or six. And it’s completely unfair to call me lenient if I am trying to boost the morale of a non-dancer. People should watch the full episode before passing such judgements,”

SC stays Madras HC judge’s order against Chief Justice

Agency : New DelhiThe Supreme Court on Monday stayed an interim order passed by Madras High Court controversial judge Justice C.S. Karnan, allegedly undermining the authority of High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Kis-han Kaul. “There will be a stay of the interim or-der dated April 30, 2015, passed in a suo motu writ

petition,” a bench headed by Chief Justice H.L. Dat-tu said on Justice Karnan’s order in a case relating to appointment of officers of lower judiciary.“We restrain the judge who initiated the suo-motu pro-ceedings relating to the suo motu writ petition pending before Madras High Court from either hearing or issu-ing any direction in the said

writ petition,” the bench also comprising justices Arun Misra and Amitabha Roy said. It further said that in all other matters connect-ed with it, there shall not be any interference by any per-son or authority or judges in completing the process ini-tiated by the High Court for selection and appointment of junior judicial officers in Tamil Nadu till disposal of the special leave peti-tion. The bench posted the appeal filed by the Madras High Court registry against the order passed by Justice Karnan for hearing after the vacation. Senior advocate K.K. Venugopal, appearing for the High Court registry, said that “the conduct of this judge has brought great disrepute to the High Court by his so-called suo motu judicial order.”

talion that was deployed at Sangam area in Anant-nag district. “The attack took place at 3 pm and two CRPF personnel, in-cluding an ASI, who were deployed at Panzpora crossing in the district, died on the spot,” said a police official. The police official said that militants

IIT students developing underwater robots

Agency, KOLKATA: Students at IIT Kharagpur are work-ing on an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (UAV), which is more intelligent than drones and can perform assigned tasks under water like searching for debris of a flight crashed in the sea. At the Centre for Robot-ics, students have already developed ‘Kraken 3.0’, a prototype UAV which can go as deep as 10 me-tres in a pool of water just like a submarine. “We pre-program it so that it can do specifical-ly assigned tasks like under-water surveying, identifying lost objects or debris, picking them up, etc. It can also be used for conducting repairs under the hull of a ship,” Armed with strong censors and camer-as to detect its surround-ings, the 1.3-metre-long under-water robot is a

six-thruster model which can rotate itself in five di-rections. Drones can’t be used un-der water because their wireless technologies do not work inside water. “Once an UAV is under water it has to take its own decisions. There-fore it has a higher lev-el of intelligence than drones. A powerful on-board computer is part of the machine,” Kumar said. “It may face obsta-cles under the water and so it is programmed how to act in case of an emer-gency,” the fourth-year undergraduate student of Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture de-partment said. Even in the case of the doomed Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 which went missing last year in the Indian Ocean, UAVs were assigned to locate the debris inside the sea.

Agency, MumbaiAB de Villiers smashed 133 from 59 balls against Mumbai Indians on Sun-day night. But rather than having me glued to the TV, his innings left me a little cold. Yes, he played some astonish-ing shots. Yes, he made the highest score in the IPL this season. But for a man of his genius, it wasn’t thrilling because it was too easy. You don’t have to take my word for it. Here’s what AB thought about his in-

nings: “I certainly have played better innings and this is the same as any other innings,” De Villiers told IPLT20.com. “I won’t say this is the best I have played, I have played much better before but things went my way today.” Sporting genius is best appreciat-ed when it is genuinely challenged, not when the odds are stacked in its favour. And when you have two supremely talent athletes or teams opposing each other,

they have a tendency to push each other to even great heights. Think of Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal or the Los Ange-les Lakers vs the Boston Celtics in the 1980s. Now imagine if the ATP Tour passed a rule that allowed Fed-erer to have only one serve when he played Nadal. And that he could also hit no more than four forehands ev-ery rally. Would we laud Rafa when he destroyed Federer?

Congress left red-faced in Lok Sabha after MP Abhijeet Mukherjee speaks on wrong Bill

Agency, New DelhiNext week, as the run-up to the first anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government begins and the ubiquitous report cards start making their appearance, one yardstick by which his government’s performance will be mea-sured will be what it has delivered against what it had promised. High up on the list of those promis-es was economic reforms, development and progress. Critics of Modi’s govern-ment, including the fresh-ly-minted ones such as Big Business, have already be-gun carping about how ‘big

bang reforms’ haven’t been announced by his govern-ment — neither in its first full-year budget nor oth-erwise. You can safely bet that every report card on the government’s first-year performance will also fea-ture that grouse. But what exact-ly are these ‘big bang re-forms’ that business and industry talks about? One of them clearly is the goods and services tax (GST) Bill, which would dismantle the tax barriers between states and unify India into a single mar-ket — making it easier for businesses to trade and ex-

pand. Another is the land Bill, which would make it easier to not only acquire land to build infrastructure and factories but also help create jobs for people, who have to otherwise live wretchedly off agriculture, which supports nearly half of India’s population but contributes to only 14% of its GDP. A third is the real estate Bill, which could, at least partly, clean up the rather murky nature of real estate transactions by registering and regulat-ing deals and preventing builders from diverting money collected from their customers.

The Varanasi po-lice on Sunday nabbed two persons in connec-tion with the alleged mo-lestation of an acclaimed US–based ayurvedic doc-tor. However, the police maintained that the ac-cused’s names would be made public only when the investigation was over “I was taking a walk with my friend around the agricultural farms near IIT when five men came to me and tried to rape me. I fought back as I have attended a for-mal self-defence training programme. They pushed me and took away my mobile phone after they

failed to rape me,” Dr Bhattacharya who went on a leave after the inci-dent earlier this month told Mail Today over phone from New Jersey, US. She also approached the Lanka police station, where the cops refused to register an FIR. “I met the Superintendent of Po-lice through a friend on April 28 and told him of my tribulation, but my FIR was finally registered only on May 1,” she add-ed. Though the Varanasi cops refused to come on record, a police source said that two persons have been picked up from outside the BHU campus in connection with the in-cident.

Jadeja stars as Chennai Super Kings beat Rajasthan Royals by 12 runs

Agency, ChennaiChennai Super Kings (CSK) climbed to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) points ta-ble with a 12-run victory over Rajasthan Royals in a league match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Sunday.Chasing 158, Royals were restricted to 145 for nine in 20 overs. CSK im-proved to 16 points from 12 matches, keeping Roy-als in the third spot with 14 points after 13 games.Royals began their chase process sedately with openers Ajinkya Rahane

(23) and Shane Watson (28).They mixed caution with aggression to build a strong platform for their team. Just as it seemed they had settled into a nice rhythm, Rahane fell to Mohit Sharma in the sixth over.Steve Smith (4) also didn’t last long and Roy-als slumped to 48 for two in the eighth over. But they received a bigger jolt when Watson fell, caught brilliantly by an acrobatic Dwayne Bravo at long-on off the bowling of Ravin-dra Jadeja in the 10th

over.Rajasthan’s situation worsened 11 balls later. Jadeja struck again to dis-miss Karun Nair (10) to reduce Royals to 75 for four. The asking rate steadi-ly went up and Royals needed 73 runs off the last seven overs. But they just couldn’t muster the big hits needed to chase down the total. Jadeja ended with a stunning 4/11 spell. Earlier, Bren-don McCullum’s 81 off 61 balls lifted Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a fighting total of 157/5

BJP MP opposes India-Paki-stan cricket series in Lok Sabha

Agency, New DelhiA Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarian on Monday expressed his op-position to the proposed India-Pakistan cricket se-ries in December.Former home secretary and MP from Bihar’s Ar-rah, RK Singh, raised the issue in the Lok Sabha during zero hour. You don’t have friendly

relations with a country which sends terrorists across the Line of Control everyday. I would request the government to recon-sider the decision seri-ously.” Chiefs of India’s and Pakistan’s cricket boards met in Kolkata on Sunday, and later told the media that the proposed series would likely have three Tests, five one-day internationals (ODIs) and two T20 games.

167 nabbed for land scam in past one year in Ahmedabad district

Sunvilla News,AHMEDABAD

Ahmedabad district saw the first joint special in-vestigation team (SIT) in 2011 consisting of offi-cials from police, district collectorate and state ad-ministration after police received over 230 ap-plications claiming land scam. The surge was seen thanks to the industrial development the district had seen since 2009 with top players announcing and constructing plants in the periphery of Ahmed-abad. Due to the escala-tion in land prices, many

had decided to exploit the loopholes and rake in moolah. The major change in the scenario came in past one year when the police-level SIT was disbanded and the investigation was hand-ed over to individual po-lice stations. Nirlipt Rai, superintendent of police, Ahmedabad rural, said that in past one year they have registered 53 FIRs on the basis of the appli-cations with the SIT and various police stations. “A total of 167 persons have been arrested. The sudden jump in the case

can be attributed to re-ceiving forensic investi-gation reports or required information about the disputed land from gov-ernment offices in large number,” he said. Rai said that decentral-ization has helped them quickly review the cases and making it easier to take decision. Officials said that Sanand tops the chart with 12 FIRs fol-lowed by Kanbha and Bavla where 6 FIRs each have been lodged. Most of the cases are related to forged documents or dis-pute over inheritance.

Gujarat to initiate project to restore ecology of saline areas

Sunvilla Samachar, Gandhinagar

Gujarat, which possess-es more than 1.2 million hectares of arid area due to salinity ingress, is plan-ning to initiate a project to turn the vast tracks of saline land into grassland and restore green cover of those areas. In this regard, the Gujarat Ecology Com-mission of the state’s forest and environment depart-ment has taken up a pilot project in a village near Gulf of Khambhat and will subsequently implement in other areas also. “We have planned a project to convert vast saline area in to grassland and at present taken a pilot project at a vil-lage Tadan talav near Gulf of Khambhat in Anand district of state,” A K Sax-ena, member secretary of

the Gujarat Ecology Com-mission, said. This project was conceptualised around three years ago with a view to convert the arid lands due to salinity ingress into grass-land with vegetative cover and restore ecology of the area, said Saxena. According to sources in Gujarat Ecology com-mission (GEC), a study is being conducted in Tada Talav village to convert the saline area into green one. “We are conducting a study in Tada talav village near Gulf of Khambhat on converting saline land into grass-land and on the find-ings of that study, we will decide on the future of the project,” said an official associated with the proj-ect. “We will first grow grass in saline areas, as it can generate the organ-

ic matters in an arid land and after that we will grow other vegetation there, said official.“We can reduce the effect of saline tidal waters of the sea, which ingresses salinity in other areas by planting grass and ultimately ecology will be restored in saline areas,” he said. With the success of this project, there will be a positive impact over the state’s ecology which will ultimately help in progress of farming community, he added.Due to salinity, the land goes arid and barren which has no use for the farmers, said the sources. According to the website of Narmada Water Resources, Water Supply and Kalpsar Department, coastal areas of Kutch and Saurashtra are saline which comprises around 1.2 million hectares.

Missing minors with mental problems risk grave exploitation

Fundraising for start-ups still a challenge: EDI study

Sunvilla News,AHMEDABAD

The central government might have created a new ministry of entrepreneur-ship so as to have more number of entrepreneurs and businessmen, but fund-raising for Indian start-ups remains one of the biggest challenges. A study con-ducted by Entrepreneur-ship Development Institute of India (EDI) on hi-tech entrepreneurs has found that over 78% respondents found it difficult to raise fi-nances at the ideation stage. As many as 32% respon-dents went for self-fund-ing, followed by loans from family and friends. Nearly 63% respondents saw no role of state governments in launching their ven-tures. However, provision of basic infrastructure and

grant from MSME minis-try were seen as positive contributions. As high as 88% entrepreneurs felt that banking system should be revamped to facilitate busi-nesses and industries and skill- based enterprises. The study will be released by Union minister for science and technology Harsh Vardhan on the oc-casion of National Tech-nology Day on Monday. Conducted across 14 states, the study covered 130 DST supported and 35 non-DST supported hi-tech entre-preneurs, besides 25 other stakeholders from support system. The study found that entrepreneurs expect the government to make adequate provisions for a comprehensive and need-based early startup funding that addresses all the prob-

lems faced at the nascent stage, that is proof of con-cept, prototyping and test marketing. They also want creation of ‘Innovation Fellowships’ for a period of two to three years, at par with PhD. The respon-dents said the government should ensure ease of do-ing business by simplifying rules and transparent, easy to comply with regulatory framework. They said the gov-ernment should create a web portal exclusively dedicated to innovative products and promotion of the products. This will help establish credibility of these products in the mar-ket. They also want better linkages between engineer-ing colleges and business schools to garner comple-mentary strengths.

Woman gifts son life-saving kidney after dad shows reluctance

Sunvilla News, AHMEDABAD

When children around the world were busy pampering their moms by making breakfast, giving flowers, cards, and gifts on the Mother’s Day, a 55-year-old woman gave her son the gift of life: a kidney. Vadnagar resident Gauriben Jeevanbhai donated a kidney to her labourer son Pravin Kumar at Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) on Sunday. Pravin has been fighting end-stage renal

disease for the past seven months. Now, his mother hopes her gift will finally let her 32-year-old son live an active life without dialysis. She said at first, her family was heartbroken and she was in denial that Pravin needed a kidney transplant. “At that point, his nephrologists told us that both his kidneys were beginning to deteriorate slowly,” she said. “The doctor said the kidneys were working at only 45% efficiency. So we decided it was time for him to undergo a transplant.”
