We all need to carve out time for daily prayer. If we are not we are truly missing a means to tap into the supernatural power that comes only from God. Prayer makes the ordinary life, extraordinary, the impossible possible. As human beings, it is the most important thing we can do for ourselves and for our families, and to all we encounter in our lives. Daily, consistent prayer helps bring the “Christ” out in all of us. In prayer we bring our needs and hopes to our Father in heaven and we gain trust in God’s purpose for us and to accept His will. In prayer we can create a relationship with Jesus that continues to give us life, renew us in our faith, and to be merciful to us. While sometimes we feel that our prayers go unanswered and we don’t get everything we want, that isn’t the case. He answers every prayer, giving us what we truly need.
“Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
What a wonderful festival! I am so grateful to the group of past festival chairs and leaders, especially Vince Woodall and Doug and Joy Kornish, who pulled together to spearhead the effort for another successful summer festival. Each year seems to get better and better. It gets that way because of an incredible wealth of volunteers. We could never pull this off without all of you stepping up to the task — either helping our before, during and after, praying, or just plain attending and bringing others along to eat, drink, play a game, ride a ride, buy a raffle ticket or purchase a treasure at the flea market or Bid-n-Buy. We had a lot of new faces involved this year. I want to make special mention especially to those chairs that have taken over running the flea market: Kate Malo, and Peggy Lane and the Bid-n-Buy chairs: Melissa and Eric Kautz. These booths especially take an extensive amount of work and I think deserve a special recognition.
I am so grateful for all the workers that took an active role in leading the festival and now it’s time to pass the baton. I will be looking for people to step up to be the next festival chairs. This is a short-term commitment and with all the support from past festival chairs and the incredible core group of volunteers that are incredibly dependable and fun, this is a very doable for those who like a good challenge and, more importantly, to serve the Church. If you are interested, I dare you to contact me at [email protected].
Amen? Amen!

CONGRATULATIONS! Garrett Shipley and Colleen Bosche (photo 1) celebrated the Sacrament of marriage on July 13. Col-leen is a teacher at St. Cecilia School. Their presider was Deacon Nathan Beiersdorfer. Joshua Snapp and Allyson Holsinger (photo 2) also celebrated the Sacrament of marriage on July 13 at St. Ce-cilia. 1 QUINCENERA: On Sat., July 13 we celebrated Sandy Gonzalez (photo 3) at her Quincenera Mass. Sandy memorized her personal commitment and did a wonderful job. 1 PARISH-IONER VACATION: Stephanie Ramsey (photo 4) closed out her recent family vacation to St. Louis with breakfast at Allin’s Diner. 1 DEACON NATHAN: Last week Deacon Nathan Beiersdorfer (photo 5) assisted Secretary of the Apostolic Nuncio, Fr. Earl Fer-nandes, at Mass at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, D.C. 1 HOLY LAND TRIP: Our seminarian intern, Louie Jacquemin, (photo 6, far left) was in the Holy Land with the rest of the semi-narians for their annual trip. It was such a privilege to go on this wonderful trip as a seminarian and I know he will come back renewed for his next year before he becomes a deacon.

SUMMER WITH THE SAINTSSaint John XXIII
Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, the future Pope John XXIII, was born into a poor farming family in northern Italy in 1881. At just eleven years of age, he entered the seminary in nearby Bergamo and four years later was admitted to the
Secular Franciscan Order. A year after his ordination in 1904, he became secretary to the Bishop of Bergamo and taught at the seminary there.
In World War I, he served in the medical corps and as a chaplain. In 1921, Pope Benedict XV called him to Rome and appointed him the Italian president of the Society for the Prop-agation of the Faith.
In 1925, he was made a Bishop and began working in various papal diplomatic service posts in Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, and France. During these years, he made strides with non-Christian religious leaders and helped thousands of Jews escape the Holocaust.
Created a Cardinal in 1953, he was elected Pope in 1958. The Holy Father called the Second Vatican Council, issued eight encyclicals, and lent assistance in efforts to resolve the Cuban missile crisis.
After his death in 1963, he was beatified in 2000 by Pope Saint John Paul II and Canonized by Pope Francis in 2014.
