27 mei 1903 werd de Beurs van Berlage door koningin Wilhelmina geopend. De Goederen-, Effecten-, Graan- en Schippersbeurs waren er gevestigd. Het rijksmonument wordt tegenwoordig beschouwd als een voorloper van de moderne architectuur.
He who as an individual is a nullity, has power as a mass. Architect and socialist
H.P. Berlage used about 9 million bricks for the construction of the Beurs. That was
about the same amount of Dutch people back in 1903. Each stone represents one
person, if we work together, we are capable of building large and beautiful things.
In the Grand Cafe you will find three tableaus by Jan Toorop. They depict the
past, present and future. The panels have many symbolic details. Jan Toorop was a
famous Dutch artist, his work became more Roman Catholic as he aged. This can very
clearly be seen in the tableau The Future.

May 27th 1903, the Beurs van Berlage was opened by Queen Wilhelmina. The
Commodity, Stock, Corn and Shipping exchanges were originally based here.
This unique building is regarded as a forerunner of modern architecture.
Tableaus Tableaus
In het Grand Caf ziet u drie tegeltableaus van Jan Toorop. Deze beelden het verleden, heden en de toekomst uit. De tableaus zijn voorzien van veel symbolieke details. Jan Toorop was een groot Nederlands kunstenaar, zijn werk werd naarmate hij ouder werd, meer rooms-katholiek wat in het tableau De Toekomst duidelijk terug te zien is.
Bakstenen Bricks
Hij die als enkeling een nietigheid is, heeft als massa de macht. Architect en socialist H.P. Berlage gebruikte ongeveer 9 miljoen bakstenen voor de bouw van de Beurs. Ongeveer net zoveel als er toen in 1903 Nederlanders waren. Elke steen staat voor n persoon, als we samenwerken zijn we tot grote en mooie dingen in staat.
Ze konden de ogen niet van elkaar af houden. De aanwezige familie, vrienden, hoogwaardigheidsbekleders en iedereen die meekeek via live televisie aanschouwden dit bijzondere huwelijk tussen de Kroonprins van Oranje en zijn Argentijnse liefde in 2002. De Koning en Koningin van Nederland zullen hier op 2 februari altijd aan terugdenken.
Ht huwelijk The marriage
They couldnt deter their eyes off each other. Family, friends, officials present
and everyone who was watching via live television beheld this extraordinary marriage between the Prince of Orange
and his Argentinian love on February 2nd at 2002. The King and Queen of the
Netherlands will always look back on this very special day in the Beurs.
