Hermes spoort de mens aan tot het wezenlijke te komen. Geen pleidooi voor religie, maar intelligent onderzoek van de natuur, een onderzoek dat wordt uitgevoerd met alle vermogens van de mens: zijn hart, zijn geest, zijn rede, zijn intuïtie. Een onderzoek naar de grote Natuur, waarin de mens is geplaatst, en naar de kleine natuur, in zijn innerlijk.
