DAYSugata Bose and the twohouses under surveillanceOne of the two houses that were under surveillance forover two decades according to some files of IntelligenceBureau that had been declassified and kept at the nationalarchive now lies in the heart of Kolkata. This is also thehouse from where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had madehis great escape in 1941. “In life immortal, this is thetechnique of the soul. The individual must die, so thatIndia may live and may win freedom and glory….” readsan epithet from the writings of Subhas Chandra Bose atthe entrance of 38-2 Elgin Road – “Netaji Bhawan”. Nextto it is another marble plaque on which is etched anotherwriting of Netaji that reads: “In this mortal world, everything perishes and will perish – but ideas and idealsand dreams do not. One individual may die for an ideabut that idea will, after his death incarnate itself in athousand lives….” Talking to the Sunday Express, DrSugata Bose – a historian and a Netaji kin responded tothe latest controversy recounting how his father Dr SisirBose was able to dodge past at least 14 intelligenceofficials posted at the house at that time under the Britishrule and drove Netaji dressed and disguised in a pathansuit out of that house. Dr Sisir Bose reached NetajiSubhas Bose to Gomoh railway station from where hedisappeared. Dr Bose goes to add: “But that was duringthe British rule. What is most shocking about the currentrevelation is that the snooping continued even after 15thAugust, 1947. Probably the Indian Intelligence officialshad forgotten the relevance of that date and the fact thatIndia had won its freedom by then.” It is equally shockingthat in Bengal was a Congress government then underDr. Bidhan Chandra Roy and the snooping could not havecontinued without the knowledge of the Bengalgovernment,” said Bose. It was the Intelligence Bureaulocated at Lord Sinha Road that was responsible for thesnooping and Elgin Road post office was the place wherethe letters of the family used to be monitored andintercepted, said Bose. The Harvard professor of historyand now a Trinamool Congress MP, Dr. Bose wonderedif the spying has stopped now. “if it could have continueduntil 1968, then what stopped it?” he asks. “Did it stopat all? Who knows that even now our e-mails are notmonitored, telephones not bugged? These should not havehappened. This was an encroachment on privacy andmost of all there was no security threat involved inmounting such a surveillance on our family,” he said. Askedabout the “political challenge” that Netaji’s return mighthave posed to the then leaders which might have been areason to snoop, Dr Bose said: “The motive is not clearregarding this snooping affair. There is also no evidenceto suggest that it was ordered by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. There is no direct link to suggest that,” said Bose. TheBose family had an intimate relation with the Nehru family, said Bose and narrated how Nehru used to invite SubhasChandra Bose for breakfast when he used to visit Delhiand often invited him to attend the parliament sessions.

Ek Paheli Leela Movie Review

Agency : New Delhi London-based modelMira (Sunny Leone) comesto India on an assignment. She falls in love with aprince in Jaisalmer and getsmarried to him. Meanwhile,a budding musician Karan(Jay Bhanushali) is gettingpersistent nightmares afterhearing an old Rajasthani

folk tune and keeps mutter-ing the name Leela in sleep. How is Mira related toLeela? This one is morethan just a reincarnationtale. The tendency of nottaking a Sunny Leone filmseriously is going to change.Ek Paheli Leela might notbe a cinematic treat but itstricky climax Emakes it

watchable. With a solidstory in place, this viva-ciously shot reincarnationdrama is plotted carefullywith its loose-ends knottingup into a thrilling end. Un-like the usual fare that com-pliment the actress' boldpersona, the forte of thisfilm sprawls beyond itsscintillating bits. It starts ona droopy note and mean-ders initially but once theparallel stories merge, itadvances smoothly to-wards the jolt of its unex-pected climax. Whatdampens the strength of theplot are its sexual innuen-dos and the needless songsthat keep popping in fre-quently without addingmuch. There are nine songsforced into the packagewhich water down the film'spunch. The story shiftsbriskly between the presentand the past without seem-ing too disparate. With itsruntime of over two hours, the film gets tedious, some-thing that could have beeneasily rectified by sharperediting.
