Octreotide First report of hepatitis: case rep ort * A 50-year-old man receiving thyroxine cortisone, and testosterone replacement therapy was treated with SC octreotlde 100,l1g every 8 hours for acromegaly Routine laboratory tests were normal until the sixth month of therapy when high values were obtained from li ver function tests Hepatitis A and B tests were negative Octreotlde was withdrawn and the liver enzymes returned to normal Octreotlde was resumed 5 months later After 3 months of therapy liver function tests were again elevated and the patient suffered weakness nausea anoreXia, Jaundice and dark urine Tests for hepatitis A and B were again negative Both octreotlde and te stosterone therapy were discontinued and the patient Improved 'The recurrence of hepatitis during Ie second course of octreotide and its disappearance after drug withdrawal supports the possibility that this patient had idiosyncratic hepatitis induced by octreotide , ' Ar' '5'0 'J BaIlon,,, Ambros, B Fagl,a G Acule hepal,l,s aile, Irealmcnl 01 acromegaly w,th OClrcol,de Lancel2 1498 31 Dec 1988
