herinnert aan de onschuld en de eerbaarheid van de liefde. De freesia is een unieke bloem met veel knoppen en daarom beleef

je er lang plezier aan. Maar misschien nog belangrijker: De geur. Die fijne, vertrouwde geur van de freesia die voor veel mensen

freesia is a reminder of the innocence and chastity of love. The freesia is a unique flower with buds that give you lasting pleasure. But

maybe even more importantly: The fragrance. That fine, familiar fragrance of the freesia which evokes memories for so many people.

The freesia deserves more attention and a suitable place in any consumer’s living room. That is what Unicum Freesia wants to take

care of.

Sinds vier jaar ben ik voorzitter van Unicum waar alles in het

werk wordt gezet om Unicum Freesia naar een hoger plan

te tillen. Personeel, certificaten, assortiment, planning, ICT en

een grote voorraadhal zijn nodig om service te bieden aan

onze afnemers. Zij kunnen rekenen op kwaliteit, volume,

snelheid en zekerheid.

Ik ben trots op de vereniging. Naast onze bestaande Retail

afzet, biedt Unicum Freesia nu ook directe handel via een

digitaal platform (www.unicgold.nl). Zo kunnen afnemers op

elk moment freesia’s bij ons kopen. Op het digitale platform

bieden wij alleen hoofdtakken met bepaalde specificaties.

Deze hoofdtakken dragen een speciaal label: Unicgold.

Het is van belang dat er een plek is waar in één uniforme

uitstraling (Unicgold) een breed pakket aan topkwaliteit wordt

aangeboden. Op deze manier zijn we, samen met de Retail-

tak, in staat verschillende kwaliteiten freesia’s aan te bieden

en te verhandelen.

Met ons nieuwe merk Unicgold wordt directe handel via

koppelingen en webshops het nieuwe verhandelen van

bloemen, naast het veilen en beleveren van grootschalige

Retail. Daarmee mag Unicum Freesia zich met recht de

‘unique freesia connection’ noemen.

For four years I have been chairman of Unicum, where

everything is being done to put Unicum Freesia on a higher

level. Personnel, certificates, the assortment, planning, ICT

and a large stocks warehouse are needed to help provide a

proper service for our consumers. They can count on quality,

volume, speed and reliability.

I am proud of this association. Besides our existing Retail

sales, Unicum Freesia now also offers direct trade through a

digital platform (www.unicgold.nl). So consumers are now

able to buy our freesias at any time. Our digital platform only

offers main stems with specific specifications. These main

stems carry a special label: Unicgold. It is important to have

a place with one uniform appearance (Unicgold) where a

broad collection of top quality is on offer. This will enable us,

together with the Retail branch, to offer and trade different

quality freesias.

Our new Unicgold brand will support direct trade via links

and web shops as the new way of trading in flowers,

besides the usual auctioning and supply of large scale

Retail. Consequently Unicum Freesia can rightly call itself the

“unique freesia connection”.

Twintig jaar geleden besluiten een aantal vooraanstaande freesiakwekers in het Westland de handen ineen te slaan met als doel

wereldwijd de markt te beleveren en beter in te spelen op de wensen van afnemers. Daar ontstond een unieke samenwerking:

Unicum Freesia.

Bij Unicum Freesia hebben we oog voor de behoefte van onze eindklanten en wij kunnen het eindproduct volledig afstemmen

op de wensen van de klant. Bloemen van Unicum Freesia vinden hun weg naar diverse windstreken via providers op de veiling of

daarbuiten. Wel blijven alle financiële stromen via het veilingsysteem afgerekend worden.

De kwekers, die bij ons zijn aangesloten, telen samen zo’n 130 miljoen freesia’s per jaar op ruim 35 hectare. Wij hebben dit areaal

nodig om elke dag het juiste product af te leveren en bepaalde garanties te kunnen bieden. Gemiddeld vijftig procent van de

productie op een bedrijf is geschikt voor het Retail segment.

In de loop der jaren heeft Unicum bewezen een sterk collectief te zijn. Achter de organisatie staat een team van kwekers en

medewerkers dat gelooft in de commerciële perspectieven van de freesia. Vanuit onze vestiging op FloraHolland Naaldwijk hebben

wij alle faciliteiten in huis om onze klanten te beleveren, het serviceniveau van de organisatie te continueren, het product te

verwerken, samen te brengen en te verdichten. Unicum Freesia is dé plek om freesia’s te bestellen, direct van de kweker.

UNIEKE SAMENWERKING


Twenty years ago, a number of leading freesia breeders in the Westland joined forces with the goal of supplying the global market

and to better anticipate consumers’ requirements. This saw the creation of a unique form of collaboration: Unicum Freesia.

At Unicum Freesia we have an eye for the needs of our end customers and we can adapt the end product entirely to the wishes of

the customer. Unicum Freesia flowers find their way to various different corners of the world via providers at the auction or outside.

However, all financial flows are still settled via the auction system.

Our affiliated breeders together breed some 130 million Freesias per year on more than 35 hectares. We need this acreage in order

to be able to supply the right product every day, enabling us to offer certain guarantees. An average of fifty percent of the production

at a company is suitable for the Retail segment.

Over the years, Unicum has proved itself to be a strong collective. The organisation is supported by a team of breeders and staff who

believe in the freesia’s commercial perspectives. Our branch in FloraHolland Naaldwijk has all in-house facilities needed for supplying

our customers, for continuing the level of service of the organisation, and for processing, collecting and compacting the product.

NIEUW VAN UNICUM Vanaf de oprichting is Unicum Freesia al gespecialiseerd in

de verkoop van bloemen voor de Retail. Tijden veranderen

en Unicum Freesia verandert mee. In 2014 besloten we te

starten met directe handel middels een webshop. Sinds

begin 2015 is deze webshop in de lucht en kunnen klanten

met een eigen account op elk moment van de dag hoge

kwaliteit freesia’s inkopen. In de webshop van Unicum Freesia

zijn uitsluitend hoofdtakken te koop van alle gangbare

rassen en kleuren. Ook bieden we regelmatig exclusievere

rassen aan. Bloemen die in de webshop te koop zijn, dragen

het label Unicgold. Een account voor onze webshop kunt u

the sale of flowers for the Retail sector. Times change, and

Unicum Freesia changes too. In 2014 we decided to start

with direct trade using a web shop. The web shop has been

on line since the start of 2015, enabling customers who have

their own account to buy high quality freesia at any time of

the day. The Unicum Freesia web shop exclusively sells main

stems of all common varieties and colours. We also regularly

offer more exclusive varieties. Flowers that are for sale in

Breeders of new freesia varieties in a wide range of colours.

UNIEK VAKMANSCHAP Unicum staat voor uniek vakmanschap. Veel van de

kwekerijen zijn familiebedrijven en van vader naar zoon

gegaan. Daarom is er binnen Unicum veel kennis over de

freesia en het hele productieproces. Dagelijks worden met

de grootste zorg bloemen gekweekt door gedreven en

ervaren vakmensen. Voor het telen van freesia’s is een koele,

vruchtbare grond nodig. Middels stomen wordt de grond

ontsmet en vrij gemaakt van onkruidzaden en schimmels.

Het telen van freesia’s is arbeidsintensief en de bloem is

erg gevoelig voor licht en (grond)temperatuur. Daarom is

grondkoeling erg belangrijk. Na het poten van de bol duurt

het ongeveer 100 dagen voordat er geoogst kan worden.

De oogst periode duurt 5 tot 10 weken. Eerst wordt er een

hoofdtak geoogst voor het label Unicgold, later volgen er

meerdere zijtakken, ook wel haken genoemd, voor het Retail

segment.

UNIQUE CRAFTSMANSHIPUnicum stands for unique craftsmanship. Many nurseries

are family businesses that pass on from father to son. That

is why there is so much know-how within Unicum about the

freesia and the entire production process. Every day, flowers

are bred with the greatest care by driven and experienced

professionals. Breeding freesias requires a cool, fruitful soil.

Steaming decontaminates the soil and frees it from weed

seeds and moulds. Breeding freesias is labour intensive

and the flower is extremely sensitive to light and the (soil)

temperature. So soil cooling is very important. After planting

the bulb, it takes about 100 days before harvesting can be

started. The harvesting period lasts from 5 to 10 weeks. First

a main stem is harvested for the Unicgold label, followed later

on by more side stems, which we call hooks, for the Retail

segment.

handelen en leveren wij de klant een product op

maat.
