, rand d MK-B-251 ANTIARRHYTHMIC Alternative to lignocaine for some? MK-B-251 (MK· 251; Merck, Sharp and Dohme) is an antiarrhythmic drug, an isothionate salt of an amine. In 14 patients with ischaemic heart disease and chronic premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), MK-B-251. 300mg/day for 4 days, significantly reduced the frequencyofPVCs in 10 of the patients: 5 reduced frequency by 85-100 %, 4 by 25-55 % and 1 by 10%. Four-failed to respond. Two patients who were resistant to lignocaine (lidocaine) responded minimally to MK- B-251 while 1 patient who responded minimally to lignocaine produced-a >85 % response to MK-B-251.
