Minorruimte: wat is dat?

In de hoofdfase van je studie heb je de mogelijkheid om je voor 30 of 45 ECTS (verschillend per opleiding) te verdiepen in onderwerpen waar je meer over wilt weten. Je kunt deze “minorruimte” op verschillende manieren invullen.

In deze krant de belangrijkste informatie over inschrij-ving en een overzicht van het aanbod van de faculteit Technologie, Innovatie & Samenleving. Op de studiesite (pagina “minoren en keuzemodules”) vind je nog veel meer informatie over minoren.

In deze minorkrant worden alle minoren van de faculteit TIS beschreven. Klik je op de naam van de minor dan kom je terecht in de onderwijscatalogus van Osiris. Daar vind je een uitgebreidere beschrijving. Per minor zijn de volgende gegevens opgenomen:

Sustainable Energy TechnologyAan energiegebruik kleven grote maatschappelijke zorgen zoals schadelijke emissies en uitputting van grond-stoffen. Deze minor behandelt de duurzame opwekking, distributie en afgifte van warmte, koude en elektriciteit.  In het bijzonder wordt er aandacht besteed aan duurzame energienetwerken waarbij energieopwekkers gekoppeld worden aan energiegebruikers zoals industrie, gebouwen en vervoersmiddelen. De energievoorziening op zowel landelijk, streek-, stad- en gebouw-niveau komt aan bod.

Hoe geef ik invulling aan mijn minorruimte?

Je kunt een minor binnen de faculteit volgen. In deze minorkrant wordt ons aanbod gepresenteerd. Is het blokje met jouw opleiding groen, dan is de minor in principe geschikt. Het kan nog wel zijn dat jij zelf (nog) niet aan de ingangseisen voldoet, omdat je nog geen stage gelopen hebt bijvoorbeeld, of omdat je nog niet voldoende ECTS hebt. Klik bij de minor op de link naar Osiris om alle ingangseisen te zien.

Je kunt ook een minor van een andere faculteit volgen. Deze toestemmingslijst is een overzicht van minoren van andere faculteiten binnen De HHs. Je kunt vanuit de lijst doorklikken naar Osiris. Staat er een kruisje bij jouw opleiding en de minor van jouw keuze? Dan lijkt de minor te veel op dat wat je in je major aangeboden krijgt en mag je de minor niet volgen.

Hoe schrijf ik me in voor (toetsen van) minoren?De inschrijving regel je via Osiris. Klik op de naam van de minor in deze krant om terecht te komen in de onderwijscatalogus van Osiris.

Wie zich inschrijft voor minoren via Osiris staat standaard ingeschreven voor de eerste toetsmo-gelijkheid. Heb je een onvoldoende voor je eerste gelegenheid? Later word je door het faculteitsbu-reau ingeschreven voor de herkansing.

Hoe schrijf ik me uit?Heb je je ingeschreven voor een minor binnen De HHs en ben je van gedachten veranderd? Schrijf je dan weer uit via OSIRIS (knop “uitschrijven”). Zo maak je plaats voor studenten die wel graag meedoen en weet de docent hoeveel studenten hij/zij kan verwachten. Uitschrijven is ook na de inschrijfperiode nog mogelijk. Lukt het uitschrijven niet? Advanced Design OptimizationStudents will learn to use advanced tools to optimize a product design. Based on a thorough knowledge of materials, calculation methods and practical software skills (FEM, mold flow), students will learn to optimize products for production, costs and strength. Students will learn to master the dedicated software, understand the results and know how to optimize the design based on these results. The content of the course has a strong practical focus and link with the work field. Therefore the course will be in cooperation with leading partners in the engineering & design industry.

Adviseren bij Organisatie- verbeteringJe werkt in deze minor aan advies- en interventievaardigheid in organisatieprocessen. Dat gebeurt vanuit een integraal bedrijfs- perspectief en gericht op de sociale procesdynamiek van de interne communicatie. Kern is het beschrijven, analyseren en sturen van interactie tussen belangengroepen in een technolo-gische omgeving, met het doel om het lerend vermogen van de organisatie te vergroten.

BiotechnologyProcess & Food Technology offers a very attractive, chal-lenging minor program Biotechnology in cooperation with industry. After this course the student will 1. understand the need for sustainable innovation and how biotechnology and biobased production can contribute to this, 2. understand the global context of biobased production, 3. be acquainted with the biobased economy, from research to application and from raw materials to products, 4. have mastered the basics of industrial biotechnology, 5. be able to integrate scientific and technological knowledge on the use of bioprocesses for industrial products on the cell and process level, 6. be capable of developing and assessing the conditions for efficient and sustainable design of bioprocesses.

BE SMART,Strategies for smart sustainable citiesWorld-wide, people are migrating to cities. Today more than half of the world’s population is living in urban areas and this share will rise. Meanwhile, cities should also reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases, reduce their consumption of resources and pollute less. The combination of these challenges requires tremendous efforts. Creating change in the city is not easy: Systemic change is needed but can hardly be achieved due to lock in. Short term optimisations might sometimes turn out to be leading nowhere. Stakeholders need to be well informed, and their support is crucial for success. This minor will teach students to gather data and analyse cities, and develop technological and organisational options to solve problems.

Assistive DevicesSocietal changes ask for (prolongued) self-reliance of people, both for their functioning in a working environment, as well as at home. Furthermore, nowadays employers are responsible for sustainable employment of their employees. Assistive devices can support and train people in their tasks in order to increase their self-reliance and their employment. Examples of such devices are exoskeletons but also (haptic) training devices.

The minor focusses not only on developing an assistive device, but also on evaluating its functionality and performance.

Climate change in international perspectiveThis minor is all about intercultural sensitivity, climate change and urban development. You will work on a case, which is deve-loping a climate resilient site in a foreign city. You will include national culture, climate change adaptation & mitigation, and circularity. The minor contains the project (9 ECTS) and three courses (6 ECTS): climate change, globalisation and interna-tional environmental law. You will work in a group of about six students and will be allowed to choose your city of interest.

ConstructiesDe Minor Constructies is een verdieping op het programma van de specialisatie Constructies van de opleiding Civiele Techniek. Het doel is studenten meer inzicht te geven in mechanica, beton-, staal- en houtconstructies en het kunnen toepassen van meer complexe rekentechnieken.

Cost EngineeringHet betreft een verdiepende opleidingsminor behorende bij de opleidingen: Bouwkunde, Civiele Techniek en RO. De minor geeft de student inzicht in de kostenaspecten gedurende de bouwfasen. Aan de hand van een door marktpartijen inge-brachte case m.b.t. integrale gebiedsontwikkeling zullen zes fasen de revue passeren:

Design with NatureNature is probably world’s most effective designer, having solved many big and small challenges in the course of evolu-tion and adaptation. In this semester students learn to create new solutions by taking inspiration from nature (biomimicry) and/or by letting nature be part of the solution itself (biodesign and bio-hacking). This minor will enable students from different backgrounds to work within interdisciplinary teams of design-ers, scientist and engineers. Understanding and applying the basics of life sciences, working with nature inspired design methods and learning how to create your own open source lab tools to conduct hands-on experiments are at the center of attention. Development Cooperation part 1This fulltime minor is offered as Part 1 and Part 1&2. Students can choose Part 1 to obtain 15 ECTS or follow Part 1&2 to obtain 30 ECTS. The aim of the minor is to provide students with knowledge and first-hand experience in Development Cooperation and an introduction to Developing Nations in a series of (guest) lectures, seminars and fieldtrips, finalized with an exam (September-October). In addition, students following the 15 ECTS module need to do an assignment (October-November). Students following the 30 ECTS module will do an internship on a cooperation project in a country such as Ghana (October-January). They will have the opportunity to reflect on their achievements/learning process and present a portfolio based on the internship.

Embedded Systems 1Today Embedded Systems are found in many devices and are used in a large variety of instruments and applications. Most users do not know that their device contains an embedded system. Examples of applications are washing machines, telephones, heating devices, automobiles, consumer devices, medical appliances, measuring devices, internet connected devices (IoT)... By following the minor Embedded Systems part 1 and part 2, the student will learn to design state-of-the-art microcontroller systems and will thereafter be able to apply this knowledge to realize prototypes using professional and modern tools and components.

Energy TransitionThe Netherlands are addicted to gas, while we need to get off gas real quickly. In this minor you will go into details on how to help a neighbourhood to disconnect from the gas grid. In a group of about 6 students you will develop a roadmap, including a timeline, engineering, stakeholders, risks, finance, policy and law. You will have a true client, and therefore a true and actual case.

Food Product DesignThe overall aim of this minor is to learn and experience how a new food product is developed, starting from an innovative idea up to market introduction. You are part of a multidisci-plinary and multicultural project team, following a methodical product design process. The emphasis is on the development of food products having a supplementary health effect. Using both scientific methods and your creativity characterises this minor. GetaltheorieGetaltheorie is lang beschouwd als een van de meest zuivere onderdelen van de wiskunde zonder veel praktische toepas-singen. Sinds de jaren 50 van de vorige eeuw is de getaltheorie wel belangrijk geworden voor toepassingen. Zonder getalthe-orie is bijvoorbeeld het beveiligen van bankpassen, geheime berichten etc. niet mogelijk. Onderwerpen die aan bod komen: volledige inductie, deelbaarheidseigenschappen, priemge-tallen, grootste gemeenschappelijke deler en algoritme van Euclides, lineaire Diophantische vergelijkingen, modulairrekenen, congruentievergelijkingen en cryptografie.

Duurzame GebiedsontwikkelingDe uitdaging van dit project ligt in de vraag: Hoe kan jij een gebieds(her)herontwikkeling veel duurzamer maken, zonder meer kosten te maken? Het doel van dit project is het opstellen van een visie voor een duurzame ontwikkeling van het plan-gebied. Deze visie bevat ook een financiële berekening. In deze berekening worden zowel de kosten als de opbrengsten over een langere periode weergegeven waarbij de voordelen voor een duurzame oplossing beter worden belicht. Uiteindelijk presenteert jouw projectgroep (in de rol van projectontwik-kelaar!) de visie met daarin de financiële onderbouwing aan de opdrachtgever waarin je hem overtuigt van het nut, de noodzaak en de haalbaarheid van jullie voorstellen. Naast dit project krijg je de vakken wiskunde, circulaire ruimte-lijke ontwikkeling en stedenbouwkunde.

Ingenieur en Docent 1.0Ontdek en ervaar. We willen onze hbo-studenten in de gele-genheid stellen om te ontdekken of het onderwijs iets voor hen is. Deze minor Ingenieur èn Docent reikt de studenten zoveel aan, dat zij op grond van die hoeveelheid aan realistische ervaringen (10 weken lang 3 dagen stage op een havo-, vwo,- vmbo- of mbo-school) en zelfassessments, in staat zijn om te bepalen of het docentschap iets voor hen is. Het leert hen vanwege deze specifieke levensechte situatie waarin zij voor een groot deel volledig op zichzelf zijn aangewezen veel over zichzelf: hun sterkten en zwakten en in relatie daarmee hun loopbaanwensen en – mogelijkheden.

Ingenieur en Docent 2.0Waar minor 1.0 gericht is op bewust kiezen voor het docentschap, dus in de brede zin van het woord, is minor 2.0 gericht op het vak van de docent zelf. Dus op verdieping van de vakinhoud en van de daarbij behorende vakdidactiek en de rol van de mentor. Een belangrijk verschil is dus ook dat bij minor 2.0 aan de student wordt gevraagd in welk vak hij/zij z’n bevoegdheid denkt te gaan behalen. Vervolgens wordt daarop het programma-aanbod afgestemd. Bij minor 1.0 staat het te kiezen vakgebied/te kiezen vakbevoegdheid nog open, bij minor 2.0 al niet meer.

International Project 1This minor is the first of two minors. This minor is continued by the minor International Project 2 (IP2). In the environment of a complex multidisciplinary engineering project students origi-nating from several European and non-European countries will broaden and/or deepen their professional knowledge and skills depending on their discipline, interest and experience within one of the three main processes of the project, i.e. project management, engineering and support. The added value of these type of projects for students is the experience of work-ing in a team that is both international and multidisciplinary.

Life Cycle Management Life Cycle Management (LCM) is een methode die bij invoering en borging in een organisatie toegevoegde waarde aan de bedrijfsvoering levert. LCM biedt een organisatie de moge-lijkheid om bij het product-(her)ontwerp, de beheersing, het beheer en het onderhoud van assets ( kapitaalgoederen en bedrijfsinstallaties) specifieke scenario’s te ontwikkelen. Deze scenario’s kunnen helpen bij het verkrijgen van een juiste balans tussen  en de functionaliteit, kosten en opbrengsten. In deze minor werk je in een  interdisciplinair team voor een  externe opdrachtgever aan het opzetten en implemen-teren van een LCM systeem in een concrete bedrijfsomgeving.

Management en BedrijfskundeIn deze minor leg je een brede basis van kennis, vaardigheden en attitudes op het gebied van bedrijfskunde en management. Uiterst bruikbaar voor studenten van alle mogelijke richtingen die een leidinggevende functie ambiëren. In de minor komen vier thema’s aan de orde, die worden geïntegreerd in een enerverend managementgame en een interessant project:

Medische TechnologieEr is een trend gaande naar steeds goedkopere en minder invasieve zorg. Door technologische innovaties kunnen diagnoses nl. sneller, beter en goedkoper gesteld worden en zijn ze minder belastend voor de patiënt. Waar mogelijk worden behandeling, diagnose of revalidatie thuis gedaan en wordt aan de hand van goedkope sensoren de voortgang gemonitord. Deze minor wil een oriëntatie bieden op dit spannende snijvlak van techniek en zorg door een overzicht te geven van zowel de huidige technieken in de zorg (MRI, CT, ECG etc.) als opkomende technologieën (spectroscopie, fiber optic sensing, smart wearables etc). De minor bestaat uit een onderzoeksproject waarin het toepassen van techniek in een medische context centraal staat. Microtechnology, Processing & DevicesThis multi-disciplinary minor combines aspects of physics, chemistry, process technology and material science. A broad range of applications is presented, for example light-emitting diode (LED), microelectromechanica systems, microsensors and solar cells. This minor consists of classes to equip students with basic theoretical knowledge in the field of microtechnology processing and applications. Students will also learn systematically about research methodology. Students will conduct independent research in pairs, based on practical research topics. Ontwerpen en ConstruerenVerdieping aanbrengen op het gebied van de relatie tussen functie enerzijds en ontwerp en fabricage van constructies anderzijds. Aandacht vestigen op de schaarsheid van materialen en toepassen hergebruik. Het uitvoeren van een constructie en/of ontwerpopdrachten. Veelal wil opdrachtgever een slimmere oplossing voor uit te voeren functies. Functiespecificatie en taakoplossingen staan hierbij centraal en worden onderzocht en uitgevoerd.

Ontwerpprocessen en InnovatieNieuwe producten komen voort uit bewust zoeken naar nieuwe mogelijkheden van bestaande oplossingen/producten. Studenten doen een haalbaarheidsstudie naar behoeften voor toekomstige producten voor professionele gebruikers of consumenten. De minor Ontwerpprocessen & Innovatie is bedoeld voor studenten die interesse hebben in het product-ontwikkelingsproces. Voordat producten ontstaan, dient er vooraf onderzoek te worden verricht naar behoeften waaraan nieuwe producten moeten gaan voldoen, voor wie ze bedoeld zijn en voor welke prijs deze op de markt moeten komen. In deze minor wordt aandacht besteed aan het zoekproces naar het ontstaan van toekomstige producten.

Packaging Design & InnovationThis minor has been developed within the programme Industri-al Product Design for the specialization Packaging Design. The minor is intended as an introduction to the field of packaging and packaging design. The overall objective of this minor is to get acquainted with the process of designing packaging. You do this in a project team working on an assignment from a chemical or a food company. From the information you can get from the company you determine the companies current situation and the situation the company wants to achieve. With your team you determine the hurdles to take and you find out the key question the company has. You analyse and resolve the issues taking into account available resources. Product RealisationIn minor Product Realisation you design a product from a rough assignment (by a company) to a working and producable concept. The subject is not known yet – usually a plastic consumer product with electronics. You work in design teams of around four (mostly IPO-) students. In the first two weeks each team defines its own assigment after strategy and market research. Once you know exactly what your goal is, you will develop and detail your design. The focus is on engineering and design for manufacturing. As it is an ‘integral’ design project you also work on styling and ergonomics. There are lectures on the process, strategic design, design for manu-facturing, styling and other relevant subject if necessary. The deliverables are a report, a styling model, a working model and a presentation.

Projectmanagement: de BasisOndernemend, een brede interesse, houden van afwisseling en uitdaging, dat zijn eigenschappen die in deze minor goed van pas komen. In ‘Projectmanagement: de Basis’ maak je kennis met de theorie en praktijk van projectmanagement. Je leert projectmanagement echt snappen door dit ook toe te passen in de praktijk!. Je maakt je in deze minor de competenties van projectmanagement eigen door zelf in een praktijkproject een project te leiden. Je past de geleerde theorie (Prince2, Scrum, PMC, IPMA) meteen toe in de praktijk. Daarnaast krijg je prak-tische handvatten door aanvullende vakken op het gebied van projectmanagement: netwerken, filosofische onderwerpen en reflectie. Projectmanagement: het ProjectProjectmanagement leer je het beste door te doen. Deze minor is een vervolg op “Projectmanagement: de Basis” waarin je de opgedane kennis en ervaring uitbouwt tot een beginnend junior projectmanager. In de basisminor heb je vooral de instru-mentele kant van projectmanagement geleerd. In “het Project” ligt het accent op de sociaalcommunicatieve kant die speciaal voor projectmanagement van belang is. Dit vervolg zoomt in op de praktijkcontext van projectmanagement en individuele en professionele vaardigheden die daar bij komen kijken. Hierbij wordt specifiek aandacht besteed aan competenties als durf, overtuigingskracht, resultaatgerichtheid, stresstolerantie en probleemanalyse.

Prototyping & Craftsmanship The Prototyping and Craftsmanship course is part of the program of IDE/Open Innovator. During this course you will learn methods and techniques that will help you in the process of making design decisions concerning materials, prototyping methods to measure results, iteration and evaluation. Through-out a series of craft-oriented design projects, in this course you will put into practice the connections between material, ‘muscle memory’ and the use of tools to develop design skills. Exercises on quality, precision and personal expression will challenge your ideas and encourage interesting discussions about what constitutes ‘good work’ within the design practice.Students work with assignments from different clients, for example, retail, design or crafts industry.

Today robots are being applied in many fields, from industrial automation and defense to agriculture, health care and assis-tance of handicapped persons. By following the minor Robotics and Vision Design part 1 and part 2, you will learn the state-of-the-art of robotics and vision techniques and you will learn to apply this knowledge to design and realize an intelligent robot prototype using commercial-off-theshelf (COTS) equipment. You will learn techniques to systematically model the (inverse-)kinematics of robots and how to design trajectories and smoothly control the position of the robot. You will learn to design high quality 2D and 3D vision systems and advanced learning techniques among which neural networks to recognize objects and patterns in images and other sensor-data. We work together with several companies that are active in the field of robotics, for which you will design, realize and test an intelligent robotic system.

Smart Building, Information ManagementDe student krijgt een basisvaardigheid in het modelleren van bouwinformatie om inzicht in wat het begrip BIM inhoudt te krijgen. In werkcolleges en gastcolleges worden basiskennis en –vaardigheden in BIM (management) ontwikkeld, en in een interdisciplinaire context worden voor het hele bouwproces modellen voor informatie management ontwikkeld. Deze managementmodellen worden met het onderwerp SMART buildings specifiek op de asset management fase van bouwwerken gericht. Sensoring en data visualisatie zijn hierbij kernbegrippen.

Behind them lies a development process that starts with careful consideration of market needs, the competitive environment, company resour-ces, the brand image, and the style and function of the new product or service to be created. The focus of the Strategic Design (SD) Minor’s programme is on the business context of product and service design. The programme’s emphasis is on translating a company’s strategy and market opportunities into a strong product or service portfolio. SD provides the insights and the tools to exploit business resources and market opportunities and translate them in a potentially successful product or service (concept) design. Sustainable Energy TechnologyAan energiegebruik kleven grote maatschappelijke zorgen zoals schadelijke emissies en uitputting van grondstoffen. Sustainable Packaging Design & InnovationSustainable Packaging stands for the integration of environ-mental aspects in the design of a product/packaging combi-nation. This means that, in addition to marketing, economic and technical criteria also environmental criteria need to be taken into account. Sustainable packaging improves the quality perception of products, leads to cost savings, helps to meet legislation and provides environmental benefits. In this minor attention is given to developments in the field of sustainability in relation to packaging development. Sustainability should be understood in most broad sense: both technically andeconomically.

This minor can only be followed after successful completion of Packaging Design & Innovation.

Sustainable Product DesignIt is clear that our current consumption and production patterns are unsustainable resulting in various global problems, like climate change, resource depletion, pollution, poverty, etc. Sustainable choices in product design are therefore ever more important. In this minor you will learn various design and innovation strategies that enable you to make design choices while considering planet, people and profit.

Sustainable Urban EngineeringThe main semester goal is improving urban wellness by the making of a multifunctional urban construction design for the cities of the future. Within this minor programme the main task will be the making of initial design and a 25 year project plan for a multifunctional urban construction that comprises farming, working & living functions. The initial design and project plan contains the architectural, engineering and managerial solu-tions to make an energy-positive, sustainable, circular proof and long-term economically feasible urban infrastructure.(website: www.sustainableurbanengineering.nl)

The Many Faces of GlobalizationThe goal of this minor is to provide an introduction to the many aspects and dimensions of globalization. The daily challenges faced today by a wide array of professionals are not entirely local or national, but are also connected to developments occurring in Europe and in the rest of the world. In the contextof higher professional education. This means that future professionals are becoming critical world citizens. You will get about 20 guest lectures on all angles of globalization, like refu-gees, climate change, transport, social media and politics. A course on globalization is being offered, as well as workshops on intercultural sensitivity.
