1. Around the life-giving light we greet each other with peace

Whoever looks for a blessing can come in; the Lord’s house is our home.

2. Around the word of his Covenant we call each other’s names.

With hearts and mouths we shout words of life: yes and amen. When the Church reads words of Love we celebrate!

3. Around the water of Baptism we speak of the Red Sea; on dry feet, between

distress and death, we follow a burning sign: a fire in the midst of night.

5. Around the life-giving Light we greet each other with peace, the Light of

Easter meets us, the Light of Gods goodness - a blessing for those who

share love.

v Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, we are gathered here in this service of

prayer for unity to thank God for our Christian heritage and for His acts of

liberation in history.

This year the texts of the Week of Prayer were prepared by Caribbean

churches, from the islands of Middle-America.

The history of Christianity in that area has two characteristics. The colonists

used the Bible as a justification of misbehaviour at the one hand. They

oppressed the indigenous population. They imported cheap labour as slaves

from mainland Africa, China and India.

Missionaries have at the other hand offered the Bible to people as a source

of life. That book gave strength to those who suffered under the colonial

powers.

The Bible still is a source of consolation and liberation. It inspires the

Christians of the Caribbean to tackle the living conditions that undermine

human dignity. When the iron chains of slavery fall down from our hands,

there will be room for love and community.

We pray as Christians for this unity.

Evangelielezing / Gospel lecture: Lukas 4:18-19, Matt 9:18-19 & 23-26

De Geest van de Heer rust op mij, want hij heeft mij gezalfd. Om aan armen het goede nieuws te brengen heeft hij mij gezonden, om aan gevangenen hun vrijlating bekend te maken en aan blinden het herstel van hun zicht, om onderdrukten hun vrijheid te geven, om een genadejaar van de Heer uit te roepen.

Hij was nog niet uitgesproken of er kwam een leider van de synagoge naar hen toe die voor Jezus neerviel en zei: ‘Mijn dochter is zojuist gestorven. Kom alstublieft en leg haar de hand op, dan zal ze weer leven.’ Jezus stond op en volgde hem met zijn leerlingen.

Toen Jezus bij het huis van de leider van de synagoge aankwam en er de fluitspelers en de luid weeklagende menigte zag, zei hij: ‘Ga naar huis, het meisje is immers niet gestorven, ze slaapt.’

Men lachte smalend. Nadat iedereen was weggestuurd, ging hij naar binnen. Hij pakte het meisje bij de hand, en ze stond op. Het verhaal hierover verspreidde zich in de hele omgeving.

1. De rechterhand van God beschrijft in ons land, schrijvend met liefde en gezag: conflicten en geweld, de tranen zijn geteld door de schrijvende rechterhand van God

3. De rechterhand van God haalt uit in ons land, haalt uit naar hebzucht, haat en nijd; gerichtheid op ons ik / begeerte, boze blik, zij vergaan door de rechterhand van God.

Met deze dienst is de ‘Week van Gebed voor de Eenheid’ geopend. Van de diverse activiteiten die de komende week plaats vinden, treft u folders aan op tafels achter in de kerk. Na deze viering is er koffie en thee, waarvoor u van harte wordt uitgenodigd. After this celebration you are invited for coffee or tea. Cake-actie Dit jaar wordt vanuit Youchooze een diaconale reis naar Roemenië georganiseerd. Een aantal Wageningse jongeren gaat dit jaar naar een vuilnisbelt om daar met Roma-mensen en –kinderen te werken. Om deze werkvakantie te bekostigen ondernemen ze allerlei acties. Een daarvan is het aanbieden van cake bij de koffie. Er staat een collectepotje klaar voor een vrijwillige bijdrage aan de reis! International Justice Mission is een organisatie die op twintig plekken in Afrika, Zuid-Amerika en Zuidoost-Azië optreedt tegen concrete gevallen van mensenhandel, uitbuiting, illegale landonteigening, etc. en schakelt daarbij politie en advocaten in. Lees meer op www.ijmnl.org Symbolische bloemschikking (Hilly Timmerman) De basis van de bloemschikking in een ruime glazen container is een krans van Hedera ranken. Hierin staan voorjaarstakken, diverse soorten bloemen in verschillende kleuren, bundeltjes tulpen op verschillende hoogten en bollen. Het glas zorgt flonkerend voor weerkaatsing van licht. De krans is het symbool van eeuwigheid, een cirkel kent geen begin en geen einde. Hedera is het symbool van trouw, onsterflijkheid. De Hedera is groen-blijvend, klimt naar het licht en hecht zich. De bloemen in soorten en kleuren staan voor de pluriformiteit van mensen. De glazen container, krans en bloemen vormen tezamen één geheel, symboliek voor de eenheid van christenen.
