2017 has been a thrill so far. I started a new chapter in my professional life as CEO of VALUEbuilders.

Let me first re-introduce VALUEbuilders to you. Katrien founded this holding with the challenging mission to equal HRbuilders’ market domination in both Sales and Finance and to launch a strong group that can answer the growing demand for a flexible workforce.

This means that HRbuilders now has two new little sisters, SALESbuilders and FINANCEbuilders, united by the same mission and focus:• Only temporary assignments• Only with freelancers• Only Sales, Finance & HR

My mission: to make all three of the VALUEbuilders daughters succeed in their goals and to create one strong family, ready to tackle the future of work and the growing need for a flexible workforce.

We will very soon be expanding the familywith PAYROLLbuilders. We are entering the field of ad interim Payroll assignments. This is a market that both Katrien and I know particularly well since we worked in it together 15 years ago.

Happy reading and happy summertime!Hans Joris

We pride ourselves in having built a community with only the best HR Interim Managers. Who are these peopleand do they enjoy working with us as much as we do with them? In this edition we put a spotlight on Marc and Jan. We’ve known Marc since 2008. Actually he was one of the first freelancers working with us. Marc took the leap and became an independent HR Interim Manager in 2005. Jan found himself unemployed for the first time in his career, at the age of 50, because of a reorganisation of his department in 2009. After an Indian summer, he took matters into his own hands and attended one of our ‘To freelance or not to freelance’ workshops.

What is HRbuilders’ added value?J: Because of HRbuilders, I can focus on my projects without having to worry about my own ‘sales’. They guarantee to find the perfect fit on a skills and cultural level.HRbuilders has built a real community of HR professionals. It’s great to be a part of that community and join the fascinatingworkshops and get to meet so many inspiring peers.M: HRbuilders adds value through their workshops and the fact that they stay in touch, even when you’re at work via a different provider.

Are there any differences compared to working with other providers?M: Yes, what I appreciate most is that both the Captain and the crew understand very clearly which assignments suit me and which don’t.J: I see a lot of differences between different providers. HRbuilders is in my top 3 of favourite agencies to work with, because of our open and honest partnership. How are you experiencing the collaboration?M: When working with HRbuilders, there is room for both professionalism and a mutual respect for the entrepreneur and the person.J: I think of the collaboration between myself and HRbuilders as an honest partnership.

Happy freelancers

Marc and Jan

HRbuilders is completely transparent when it comes to the terms and conditions and financial aspects of the contract. Finally, it especially pleasant to have my monthly invoices paid so punctually.

Why do you think freelancers need to contact us?J: If you’re thinking of starting a career as an HR freelancer, you should absolutely meet with the market leader. Talk to HRbuilders about your strengths and what is important to you. It’s key for them to know you as a person before they can match you to one of their clients. Don’t wait until you see an assignment on the website. In the world of Interim Management, speed is of the utmostimportance and open assignments won’t be available after just a couple of days. HRbuilders should know you before they hear about the new opportunity.

Marc

Jan

Because of HRbuilders, I can focus on my projects without having to worry about my own ‘sales’.

Jan

HRbuilders has built a real community of HR professionals.

Both the Captain and the crew understand very clearly which assignments suit me and which don’t.

Every week, we connect you with the most relevant content on #TheFutureOfHR. These are the 3 most clicked articles on our Social Media channels. Winston - HR - Wolfe (?)When an uncomfortable conversation is needed or managers made a mess with an employee, they call HR. And, since we love to feel needed in HR, we swoop in and handle things. The manager’s problem disappears. Everybody wins, right?Wrong.

It’s a good thing to help your best employees quitIt’s an open declaration to managers and staff alike that shiftingroles is part of our culture and something to be encouraged, not avoided. It’s not a sign that employees don’t want to work with you; it’s a sign that you’ve done an exceptional job. They’re graduating, not leaving.

People want direction, not directionsEspecially in turbulent times, in come the “Swoop-in and save the day” leaders, not taking into account that rescuing is not the same as leading. When trust is high, speed of execution tends to go up.

Freelancers have moved from being merely the keyto solving temporary acute problems at a company, to being partners that can guide companies through periods of growth and help smooth out the processof change and transition. Permanent roles are becoming shorter, Interim Assignments longer. Thedifference between both statuses is no longer relevantfor employers. We found that our clients are lookingfor temporary experts to lead one-off projects, very often around the theme of change and transformation.

6 ways freelancing is changing:1. From Generalist to Specialist & Generalist with global experience2. Experience is everything3. More varied tasks4. Autonomy5. Investing in training6. Raising the bar

1. It’s all about shared values, culture & entrepreneurship, not about processes2. It’ s all about people, because they make the difference3. Only companies that radically change their DNA Towards Client Centricity, will survive.

having worked as an Interim Manager for 9 years and having done multiple consecutive ‘plug and play’ assignments, I longed for a long term challenge with the possibility of personal development.”

Luc, our HR Interim Manager in BelgiumSince October 2016, Luc has been actingas HR Interim Manager for a division with 1000 employees (production and administrative support functions) in the UK,France, Belgium and the Czech Republic. He supports the daily operational activities of the local HR Managers and is architect of several projects: cultural change, connectivity, staff stability, HR dashboard and an outsourcing project.

In June 2016, he had his first conversation with us. “It was a very pleasant, transparentand informative meeting. The overall professionalism of the HRbuilders teamcaught my eye. In october I was contactedfor my first mission... at McBride. Closingthe contract and prolongations has gonevery smoothly. Now, I especially appreciate HRbuildersorganising follow-up conversations between myself as well as the client, again with the typical open way of communicating. This way, both sides can adjust if necessary”.

Our International Business is growing: Happy client & 3 fantastic Interim Managers

Philip, our HR Interim Manager in Manchester“My role of Interim Head Of HR UK with McBride is a very busy HR Generalist role. I focus on supporting the site HR teams with the service they provide and with the development of a positive industrial relations climate in unionised environments.

There is also a good measure of recruitment activity which brings variety to the role. Other responsibilities include the coordination of learning & development activity through one of my teams and I also have the responsibility for theorganisation’s Occupational Healthprovision in the UK.As an Interim Manager I have the ability to make an immediate impact, which is my added value. As an Interim there isn’t time to grow into a role, you have to be able to drop into a business and bring your years of experience to whatever challenges you are presented with. In general, I think that all positive recruitment experiences are about relationship building.

McBride is the leading provider of private label household and personal care products. They develop, manufacture for and supply over 95% of Europe’s leading grocery retailers who sell McBride’s products under their own brands. In 2015, the company entered a transformation phase. With an entirely new management team at the helm, the goal is to optimise McBride’s activities and by doing so, grow the company and their position as market leader.

Since 2008, even before McBride’s transformation plans, Sophie Vandamme, CHRO, has been working with HRbuilders.

The overall professionalism of the HRbuilders team caught my eye.”

Erwin

Sophie Vandamme, Chief HR Officer at McBride: “In fact, it’s very simple: I have been working with HRbuilders since thebeginning. When the need for temporaryHR support arises, I only call one number,HRbuilders’. Why? HRbuilders’ team of HRconsultants/experts has experience in a multitude of HR fields and in many different cultures. HRbuilders can find someone to support in Payroll, as wellas an HR Manager or HR Business Partner. They invest in the continual guidanceand training of their consultants (and clients). I am guaranteed of having the most suitablecandidate and the most efficient way ofworking and this both nationally andinternationally. What I appreciate most isthe speed with which HRBuilders is able tomatch the perfect freelancer with our open assignments. So why would I work with any other agencies?” At the moment, we have three freelancersfrom our HR interim Managers community working there: Erwin, Luc and Philip.

Erwin, former HR Interim ManagerErwin first started working at McBride as afreelancer and after a short break, chose to work with them on a permanent basis.“I met with HRbuilders, somewhere in amotorway restaurant. It was not until August2014 that there was finally an opportunityI was available for. I became Interim Managerat McBride in Estaimpuis for a 9-month assignment. Later on, when I was already working on another project, McBride got in touch. Sophie offered me a permanent position as Group Head of Local HR Continental Europe and I have been working there since one year. The biggest advantage for freelancers is that we don’t have to succumb to company policies and that we have the ability to achieve large fiscal optimizations. The biggest downside to me, is that in my experience, I was often hired to do similar projects, since I already had the right experience.
