The soul never thinks without a picture Aristoles Visualise the efforts not the outcome Visualise in 3rd person Optimistic realistic (Optimize inspiration - Realistic problem-solving) Make a step-by-step plan (measurable, concrete, time-based) (investigate...), think trough to your goal Publicly declare your goal Track your progress in writing (track progress and effort) Reward yourself (when you take action to your goals)

VisualThinking
What is visual thinking
Simple: It's thinking in pictures
Visual thinking allows us to solve complex problems, especially
once we know more about how visual thinking works ..
Tell me and I will forget; Show me and I remember; Involve me and I'll understand
using pictures to solve problems
ordenen van fragmentarische informatie
Why visual
Communicate compex ideas and conceptsVoorkomen informatie overlaad
We can associate visual images, their meaning in other contexts
Verhoogd begrip
Rechter hersenhelft
Creatiever
Effectiever
big picture Totaal plaatje, big picture
Wist u dat ...
The brain processes visual information 60.000 times faster than text
90% of information that comes in the brain is visual
40% of all nerve fibres connected to the brain are linked to the retina
Many great inventors (DaVinci, Einstein)used sketch-Noting to get
clarity on their ideas
Visual Thinking allows people to use other parts of their brains and
encourages out of the box thinking
It is Fun and Effective
Ons zicht 75% van het zintuigelijke verwerkingsvermogen gebruikt, 1/60
is voor het gehoor. een plaatje slaan we drie keer sneller op dn woorden
Verbanden
Een plaatje zegt meer dan 1000 woorden ...

Visual thinking / facilitation
Why visualisation: Info more tangible, concrete, actionable. Better understanding ==> decision, emotional ==> action ==> (business) results. Strategy (schematic, logical) - Head (cool) Decision - emotional Hart (warm) Practical/pragmatic - Action - Hands (ferm)

4/20 Visual thinking - reader Martin van Vuure (4/20)2013-05-09 15:43:37
Visual thinking 1-ASK WHY: Always be curious and questioning. 2-BE PLAYFUL: Don't be afraid to have fun. Even better, think like a kid. What would a child think if they were looking at what you were? 3-ASSOCIATE: Try to make connections with ideas, images, and the things around you. When solving problems look for random and unusual associations. 4-BE NAPOLEON: Or Shakespeare, Picasso, Eleanor Roosevelt, Mother Theresa, Bill Gates. Put yourself in the shoes of another and think about how they would approach your idea or problem. 5-LOOK FOR PATTERNS: Try to discern patterns in the world around you. Look for cycles, tendencies, behaviors and similiarities. Can they enhance your projects and ideas? 6-LOOK FOR SYNCHRONICITY: When you are focused on something, patterns and opportunities appear. Learn how to recognize this synchronous moments and take advantage of them. 7-TAKE RISKS: Emotional, Mental, Creative or Physical. If you are afraid to step out of your comfort zone you'll never experience extraordinary things. 8-ASK WHAT IF? Ask this question when you are stuck, when you are looking for new avenues of thought and when you want to really exercise creative muscle. Let yourself explore the answer, regardless of how silly or illogical it might seem. 9-DON'T STOP WITH ONE IDEA: The more ideas you have, the better your chances of finding a good one. Don't be afraid to keep asking questions. Look for alternatives. Never just settle for one answer. 10-LOSE THE EXCUSES: Nike really hit the jackpot with their slogan "Just Do It." Productivity and creativity live in a vicious cycle. One always begets the other but you have to start somewhere. Start with productivity and creativity will follow.

Gebruik van metaforen, modellen en
eigen-wijsheden ....
Metafoor dynamiseren: gebruiken als instrument voor verandering.
Bewust gebruiken. Richten, feedback.
Wanneer metafoor gebruiken:
om het abstracte concreet te maken
het onbekende verduidelijken adhv iets bekends
ver bindend element bespreekbaar maken
mobiliseren energie
(gericht op kern kwaliteiten niet op valkuilen)
Metafoor als interventie:
verrassend, orgineel, beeldend
consistent & voldoende herkenbaar
positief en open geformuleerd
gedoseerd gebruiken
Tips
Nooit: uitleggen
In 3min vertellen
Vertellen in de metafoor, de organisatie NIET in het verhaal
betrekken.
Uitnodigen om te associëren, erover te praten, te fantaseren
Het (expliciet beoogd) effect (wat is je boodschap!) v.e. goede
metafoor = aanscherpend & bindend/samenhangend &
stimulerend (bewustwording & bedreiging). Genereert energie
Resultaat
Minder abstract geworden
steeds meer denkend in metaforen

actiever meer betrokken, minder

visual mapping
A systematic framework for
communicating and managing information
Related to Tony Buzan's Mind Mapping
Computer Visual mapping is at the core a Personal, Educational and Business productivity tool
Hand drawn Buzan type of Mind maps may be irrelevant to you at this time if you have never used them
A non linear format for knowledge and information;
Creation
Management
Sharing
Visual maps may be used to communicate knowledge and
information, much the same way you use Power point and Word
Enables and promotes;
Knowledge creation
Effective information management
A culture of Continual improvement
The advantages of Visual mapping are numerous to various and specific users yet, it is clear that the tools and
techniques used to map information encourage and infuse a culture of "Fast track" and "Continual improvement"
Use the T.A.P process
Tap into thought processes
Scatter initial thoughts within a Visual Map
At this stage:
There's no restrictions
There's no structure
There's no logic
Viewing mapped information on an oversized PC display or, projecting
onto a white space enables virtual space freedom
Disregard the illogical nonsense of this stage. The whole point
of this process is to dump information into your Visual map
Arrange and add logic
Drag and drop scattered information Making sense of it
Ensure understanding for both you and
intended recipients Clarity is key
Manage the information
Review/Edit
Drag and drop to:
Re-arrange
Change
Correct
Spell check
Insert
Images
Documents
Links
During this portion of the T.A.P process, it becomes clear that the mapped information becomes
the genesis of knowledge relevant to you and intended recipients
Save, Export and Present in a suitable format
Map
MS Office suite formats
Mindjet presentation mode
Image file
HTML/WEB map
DVP projection
All the available formats for output enable you to customize your
mapped information to suit the environment of delivery.
Personal use
(The starting point)
Get to know your chosen Visual mapping software
Experiment with the available graphical formats
Become a proficient Visual mapper
Personal proficiency of the tools and techniques of Visual mapping
widens the scope of use for Education and Business
Educational use advantages
For teaching
Create lectures within the framework of a Visual
map
Overview teaching material
Control the rate of delivery by expanding and
collapsing map parts
Modify lectures on the fly by using drag and
drop function in response to questions
Create, view and study the proverbial "Big
Picture"
When lecture complete, output map as HTML
and post on College web pages
Visual maps infuse clarity of communications for
both faculty and students
For learning
Compile notes, lectures, Knowledge and
information relating to chosen subject
Overview subject material
Keep track of information by using a master
map
Easily embed, save and recall knowledge and
information
All attachments inserted are embedded by
default, enabling a master map of knowledge
and information
Business use advantages
Corporate wide management
Business Management system
Project management
Organizational wide communications
TO VISUAL MAP
Business processes
Training
Continual improvement
Visual mapping within Business and Corporate arenas is benefited
by the infusion of clarity, the process and system thinking
Integrating Visual mapping
Gradual infusion
Use equally with linear formats
Share as an improvement tool
Visual maps tend to overwhelm at first, so it is advised to gradually
introduce maps into the mainstream of information exchange
FROM LINEAR NOTE
TRADITIONAL HAND DRAWN MINDMAP

A NoteTakerHD.com Template
Use small maps
Be aware of explaining the proces (thinking, what is incourant head) instead of deliverables, the Proces
evolves with creation
Design the map when it is folded!!
Conclusion first, in het centrum!
Mindmapping, gebaseerd op filmpje van BiggerPlate 1/2013
Deductive is ook wel associative, dit is de manier om info te verzamelen maar niet om te delen
Mind maps radial 1-Preparationsfase: define focus question (parking lot) 2-structure/organize hierarchy 3-design: background, colors 4-delivery phase: selective revealing
