Toelichting op gebruik

AlgemeenDe geactualiseerde huisstijlregels bieden aan de ene kant een grotere vrijheid om specifieke grafische producten te ontwerpen, zonder in een strak keurslijf te zitten. Aan de andere kant gaat het binnen de toepassing van de geactualiseerde huisstijl vooral om de verhoudingen tussen de te gebruiken middelen.

• Verhoudingen tussen kleuren.• Verhoudingen tussen lettergroottes en lettertypes (en interlinies).• Verhoudingen tussen tekst en beeld.• Stramien en bladspiegel.

Op de volgende pagina’s wordt nader ingegaan op gebruik van logo, kleur, typografie en bies.

Actualiseren huisstijl• Het voorstel betekent een stap in de richting van

no-nonsense vormgeving. Een technische uitstraling, zowel in typografie als

kleurgebruik.

• Algemene kenmerken van de nieuwe stijl zijn: Technisch en onderzoekend, grafisch, functioneel

en overzichtelijk, plat, zonder franje of visuele effecten als schaduw of blur.

• Logo en teksten worden voortaan in combinatie met beeld geplaatst op een onzichtbaar functioneel grid. Foto’s plaatsen we voortaan zo veel mogelijk aflopend. Onder tekstvelden kunnen aflopende kleurvelden liggen die een kleurcombinatie aangaan met nevenstaande foto of afbeelding.

Indien de foto aan vier zijden aflopend is plaatsen we het onderschrift in de foto (witte tekst).

Als er onder of naast de foto een steunkleurvlak staat, plaatsen we een eventueel onder- of bijschrift

in het kleurvlak. Wit in een donker kleurvlak, zwart in een licht kleurvlak. We plaatsen de bodytekst nooit in een kleur. Subkoppen kunnen wel in kleur staan. Hoofdkoppen (TU Delft UltraLight) nooit.

• De nieuwe typografie bestaat uit Arial Regular, Arial Regular Italic, Arial Bold, Arial Bold Italic, aangevuld met een UltraLight letter (TU Delft UltraLight) die geschikt is voor gebruik in titels

en koppen, zowel in print als op digitale dragers, opgemaakt in Adobe InDesign™. Aanvullend is

het lettertype Georgia beschikbaar voor quotes en columtekstten. Koppen en subkoppen staan

nooit in Italic.

SnijtekensBij een aflopend beeld loopt het beeld 3mm door over de afsnede.Het eindformaat van het drukvel wordt gemarkeerd door snijtekens. Nadat het vel is gesneden lopen de aflopende beelden tot aan de rand van het vel (de pagina).

InterlinieRegelhoogte waarop de lettergrootte staat. Bijvoorbeeld bodytekst = 9/14pt

4 Het logo kan met descriptor worden gebruikt wanneer het voor de doelgroep niet direct duidelijk is dat TU Delft een universiteit is.

• Het logo mag op geen enkele wijze worden aangepast, nagemaakt of gewijzigd en wordt altijd in zijn totaliteit gebruikt.

• De vlam mag niet los gebruikt worden, met uitzondering van de intro bij film (zie pagina 77).

• Er mogen geen eigen logo’s worden ontwikkeld zonder uitdrukkelijke toestemming van het College van Bestuur.

• Er wordt een set A-formaten aangeboden met een geplaatst logo (1) gepositioneerd op de juiste positie

etc. (staand).• De bies wordt aangemoedigd in het geval het gaat om uitingen met (zwarte) tekst op een

witte ondergrond.• Indien er al met gekleurde ondergronden of aflopende foto’s wordt gewerkt, wordt de bies

niet aangemoedigd. In dat geval vormt de bies een extra grafische laag die tot een onrustig beeld leidt.

witte ondergrond.• Indien er al met gekleurde ondergronden of aflopende foto’s wordt gewerkt, wordt de bies

niet aangemoedigd. In dat geval vormt de bies een extra grafische laag die tot een onrustig beeld leidt.

• Ook als er een complexe afbeelding met meerdere kleuren op een witte achtergrond staat, wordt het gebruik van de bies afgeraden.

Bies

• De bies wordt toegepast in bovenstaande omstandigheden en nevenstaande voorbeelden.• Het is een blauwe (cyaan) balk met daarin een wit TU Delft-logo

zonder descriptor.• Het gebruik van de bies wordt aanbevolen in de combinatie van een

éénbladige uiting van zwarte tekst op een witte ondergrond (dus zonder beeld). Een poster of een flyer.

• In een PowerPoint slide wordt de bies verticaal gebruikt.• In de bies mag alléén het TU Delft-logo in wit worden uitgespaard. Er mogen geen andere logo’s, afbeeldingen of teksten in de bies

worden geplaatst.• Er wordt een nieuwe biezenset aangeboden op de site voor alle formaten.

2 Typografie

LettertypeDe typografie bestaat uit Arial Regular, Arial Regular Italic, Arial Bold, Arial Bold Italic, aangevuld met TU Delft Ultra Light voor gebruik in titels en koppen. Aanvullend wordt Georgia gebruikt als quote- of columntekst.

ArialArial wordt in bodytekst en koppen als regular gebruikt. Alleen bij subkoppen - in dezelfde grootte als de broodtekst - kan Arial Bold worden gebruikt. Koppen staan nooit in Italic of Bold Italic.

TU Delft UltraLightSpeciaal voor koppen is het letter-type TU Delft UltraLight ontwikkeld. Deze kan als kop gebruikt worden in lettergroottes vanaf 24pt.

GeorgiaIn bijzondere gevallen kan het lettertype Georgia worden ingezet. Dit kan in de vorm van een “Quote”, een kadertekst of een column. Indien er een kop staat boven een kader-tekst, dan staat deze kop in Arial. Indien het een (sub)kop is in dezelfde grootte als de Georgia broodletter, dan kan deze kop in Arial Bold staan.

LettergroottesDe aangegeven lettergroottes zijn geschikt voor gebruik op A5, A4 en A3. Voor andere formaten (Posters A2, A1 en A0 bijvoorbeeld) kunnen deze lettergroottes meegeschaald worden naar het eindformaat. De opzet is hier om een typo-grafisch verhoudingensysteem (bepaalde combinaties van lettergroottes) neer te zetten.

4.2 Arial - Titels, koppen, tussenkoppen

Voor titels, koppen en tussenkoppen wordt in de huisstijl upgrade gewerkt met Arial. Zie de reeks met corpsgroottes. Naast Arial Regular kan ook Arial Bold als kop worden gebruikt. Dit kan alleen in koppen boven een Arial regular broodtekst. De kop moet dan even groot zijn als de broodtekst.

1. Kleur in de huisstijlset.• De huisstijlset (briefpapier, visite, envelop, etc.) maakt gebruik van het logo in zwart met ‘U’ in cyaan.• De steunkleur in de huisstijlset is cyaan. Zwart is de hoofdkleur.

2. Kleur op primaire dragers.• Bij primaire dragers als vlaggen, banieren, bewegwijzering, etc. worden zwart en cyaan

gebruikt als hoofdkleuren.

3. Kleur in communicatie-uitingen.• In communicatie-uitingen wordt het kleurgebruik vrijgemaakt om met het kleursysteem te werken of met het kleurpalet. Zie bijgevoegde voorbeelden.

3.1 Kleurgebruik

de primaire steunkleur van TU Delft is helder blauw. Daarnaast is een palet ontwikkeld om visuele uitingen te verlevendigen. In principe worden de kleuren niet in lichtere tinten gebruikt. (alleen 100%). Met uitzondering van gebruik in tabellen. Corporate kleurenDit zijn de kleuren 100% Cyaan, zwart en wit. Deze kleuren zijn voorbehouden aan onderdelen van de stijl zoals het oormerk de bies en typografie op covers.

Extra kleuren paletNaast de bestaande corporate kleuren zijn er extra kleuren toegevoegd aan het kleurenpalet. Deze kleuren hebben allen Cyaan in zich. Ze zijn vrij te gebruiken en mogen nooit geclaimd worden door faculteiten, onderwerpen, of doelgroepen.

Kleuren

• De corporate kleuren zijn cyaan, zwart en wit. Deze kleuren worden gebruikt in 100% en dus niet gebruikt in (grijs)

tinten behalve in tabellen.

• Het kleursysteem genereert kleuren die vrij zijn te gebruiken. Het combineren van een achtergrondkleur met een foto wordt een

nieuw dominant stijlmiddel.

• Als backupsysteem wordt er nog een aangepast aanvullend kleurpalet aangeboden, als leidraad voor het vrij kiezen van steunkleuren.

B. KleursysteemHet kleursysteem maakt het mogelijk om steunkleuren te gebruiken die zich al in het begeleidend beeldmateriaal bevinden. Bijvoorbeeld een opvallende kleur uit een omslagfoto wordt als steunkleur in de lay-out gebruikt.

Voorbeeld toepassing kleursysteemHiernaast staan voorbeelden van toepassing van het kleursysteem. Er zijn twee verschillende toepassingen gemaakt die allemaal mogelijk zijn.

Belangrijk is om de gekozen steunkleur ‘op te schonen’ door middel van CMYK scheiding. Zie onderstaande voorbeelden van ‘schone’ kleuren.

Nuna – the famous solar powered racing car –

won five of the last seven editions of the World

Solar Challenge in Australia. Delft students are

using their inspirational Nuna to push back the

frontiers of what is possible with solar energy.

TU Delft has always been an institute where

research and teaching go hand in hand. It is

a place to study, but we also expect more of

our students. Even during their studies, we

want them to use their inventiveness to put

technology into practice. This approach can

produce wonderful results, such as the Nuna

solar car, the Prêt-à-Loger house or the Senz

umbrella. TU Delft offers its students a tough

and demanding degree programme. But we

cannot settle for less, as our graduates have

an immense responsibility to shoulder: they

are entrusted with finding solutions to the

Interdisciplinary cooperation

Scientific teaching and research have

become interdisciplinary and international

playing fields. Cooperation and collabo-

ration, in every possible form, are in our

DNA. We bring scientists and students

from different disciplines together in our

TU Delft research institutes, which focus

on the societal themes of energy, health,

the living environment, and infrastructure

& mobility. We also have TU Delft institutes

in the fields of climate, process technology,

robotics, transport, and safety and security.

These institutes also serve as a platform for

interfaculty contacts, knowledge sharing

and cooperation. At TU Delft, creativity and

knowledge come together in many different

settings.

National and international collaboration

We are part of a regional partnership with

Leiden University and Erasmus University

Rotterdam, and together with our fellow

technological universities in Twente and

Eindhoven we form the 3TU alliance.

On the international stage, we are part

of the IDEA League, together with the

technological universities of Paris, London,

Aachen and Zurich. We have also opened

joint research centres in Brazil, China

and Vietnam, an important step towards

becoming a global university where

science really does know no boundaries.

Cooperation is also central to successful

innovation. To transform technological

innovation into practical added-value

applications for society, TU Delft cooperates

with businesses, governments and civic

QuTech CentreThe new QuTech Centre forms the bridge between scientific research

on the quantum computer and the Dutch high-tech industry. The centre

is set to build one of the world’s first working quantum computers.

Scientific research on the quantum computer has really taken off in

recent years. The Majorana particle, which was first detected in 2012

by researchers at Delft, can play an important role, as can quantum

entanglement at a distance, which was also recently realised at Delft.

With the help of quantum computers we can achieve things that

are beyond the processing ability of conventional digital computers.

For example, performing calculations on materials with extraordinary

properties, or accurately determining the effects of medicines in a cell.

The Reactor Institute Delft

Research facilitiesThe Reactor Institute Delft (RID) is part of the Applied

Sciences faculty. The RID’s 2 MW pool-type research

reactor is the only nuclear reactor in the Netherlands

used in an academic setting. The reactor was not

built to produce electrical power, but as a source of

neutrons and positrons for research purposes. The

knowledge and expertise of RID play an important role

in fundamental and applied scientific research in various

fields – for example, health and sustainable energy –

both nationally and internationally.

TU Delft InstitutesSolving today’s challenging problems requires innovation and

collaboration. Our TU Delft Institutes bring together scientists

from various disciplines to research a number of key areas

in a comprehensive manner.

Robotics

How can we get robots and humans

to work together effectively? To solve

that challenge, the TU Delft Robotics

Institute combines disciplines such as

mechatronics, embedded systems and

control with human–machine interaction,

ethics and design. The institutes focuses

on three themes. The first – ‘swarm robots’

– concerns relatively simple robots that

can jointly perform complex tasks, such

as observation, measurement and data

collection. The second theme is entitled

‘robots that work’: robots that can perform

tasks for or together with humans in a

human production environment. Finally,

‘interactive robots’ are robots that can

work together and interact with humans

at a physical or social/cognitive level.

Safety & Security

Should we invest in new and better dikes,

or in emergency units that can evacuate

people after a dike has collapsed? In other

words, how safe is safe enough? That is a

vital research question in safety and security

science. TU Delft is traditionally strong

in modelling the probabilities and

the consequences of undesired events.

The TU Delft Safety and Security Institute

applies this expertise to tackle challenges

facing the world today. For example,

if something were to happen to our

increasingly inter-connected infrastructures,

the impact could be enormous. To avoid

the risk of domino effects, such inter-

dependencies should be monitored and

controlled. Big data provides another

challenge. The unprecedented amount of

data gathered daily by electronic systems

raises concerns about privacy and security.

Process Technology

Our university has expertise on process

technology at every scale, from nano-

technology to large-scale industrial

processes. The TU Delft Process

Technology Institute combines that

knowledge to research three fields:

process intensification, biochemical process

technology, and process technology for

advanced materials. Process intensification

is all about production process efficiency:

how can we produce using smaller

amounts of raw materials and energy

while also generating less waste?

Biochemical process technology focuses

on the production of biological raw

materials, preferably from the biological

waste products of food production.

Process technology for advanced materials

works on the development of new materials

and the processes for producing and

refining them.

Climate

The TU Delft Climate Institute brings

together all research relating to data and

climate. A number of themes are on the

agenda, starting with ‘extreme weather

and the city’. The challenge here is to

obtain reliable data on rainfall, wind and

temperature at a local level, which are not

available at the moment. In climate models,

clouds are the great unknown. Researchers

at the institute are engaged in measuring,

modelling and visualising clouds and their

atmospheric radiation. Satellite observations

are essential to the process of modelling,

learning to understand and making

predictions about, for example, rising sea

levels. Then there is ‘climate information

and policy’: how do you ensure that climate

information is effectively taken on board

in decision-making at all kinds of levels?

Transport

We all use transport on a daily basis,

to travel to and from work, to get our

shopping in or to get a package delivered.

The TU Delft Transport Institute aims to

contribute solutions to transport problems

and to develop new transport concepts

that are fast, comfortable, safe and clean.

To this end, the institute brings together

researchers working on such subjects as

passenger and freight transport, traffic

systems, transport modes, vehicles

and transport-related spatial planning.

In transport, too, the collection of data

on, for example, travel behaviour plays an

increasingly large role. The multidisciplinary

research also looks at behavioural sciences,

for instance to explain driving behaviour.

Sports Engineering

Sports and sciences make a good

team. Aerodynamics, hydrodynamics,

biomechanics and materials sciences can

all contribute to the development of the

best sporting techniques, materials and

equipment. Modern sensing technology

can help improve sporting performance.

Sports engineering problems can range

from predicting and improving the

bouncing behaviour of a ball to the real-

time measuring of forces generated during

skating. The TU Delft Sports Engineering

Institute aims to assist athletes in pushing

back the limits of their ability with the help

of innovation. Just as importantly, the

institute wants to stimulate greater sports

participation (for example by designing

an environment that encourages exercise)

in order to create a healthier society.

Ampelmann

Transporting people to and from drilling

rigs and wind turbines at sea can be

expensive and dangerous. The Ampelmann

– a transfer platform on six hydraulic legs,

much like the undercarriage of a flight

simulator – was designed to change that.

Its precision motion sensors and intelligent

control make it possible to measure

and compensate for even the slightest

movements of the ship. Consequently, the

upper deck of the Ampelmann remains

stable, and a telescopic gangplank provides

a comfortable crossing. The concept was

developed in 2002 under the guidance of

researcher Jan van der Tempel, who now

manages the successful company.

Holland Container Innovations

Empty sea containers take up just as

much space as full ones, but why should

you pay to transport and store air? TU

Delft high-tech start-up Holland Container

Innovations (HCI) has the answer. The

company has launched the 4FOLD

ISO certified foldable container. When

folded, it occupies only 25% of the space

taken up by a conventional container,

representing enormous cost savings for

shipping companies. It is also good for

the environment: reduced CO2 emissions,

and less congestion on the roads. This

success did not go unnoticed. HCI has won

several awards, most recently the German

Promising Innovation in Transport Award

2014.

SideWings and EcoTail

Hjalmar and Gandert Van Raemdonck

discovered a gap in the market. Trucks use

a great deal of fuel unnecessarily because

of the aerodynamic properties of their

boxy trailers. To counter this, the brothers

developed special side skirts and tail pieces

to streamline truck trailers.

Their relatively simple SideWings solution

can save as much as 5%. This translates

into 1.5 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres,

in addition to lower CO2 emissions.

Combined, the SideWings and EcoTail can

yield fuel savings of 10%. In 2012, their

start-up company was acquired by global

technology company WABCO, and their

invention can now conquer roads all over

the world.

BabyBloom

The BabyBloom – a revolutionary incubator

– went into production in early 2011.

The BabyBloom protects premature

babies against light and noise, which

can be harmful to brain development.

Its ergonomic design lets medical staff work

in a comfortable position. The incubator can

also be slid under the bed so mother and

child can see, touch and even smell each

other. Such intimate contact is important

to the wellbeing of both mother and child.

Heleen Willemsen graduated cum laude

at TU Delft on this design back in 2005.

She is a good example of the perseverance

required to launch a new product on the

market.

Senz stormproof umbrella

Umbrellas have been around for centuries

but until recently their design had hardly

changed at all. The old-fashioned umbrella

suffers from a number of design flaws –

most annoyingly turning itself inside-out

in strong winds and breaking easily.

Frustrated by broken umbrellas, three

TU Delft students – Gerwin Hoogendoorn,

Philip Hess and Gerard Kool Wind – came

up with the idea for windproof umbrella

Senz. The Senz umbrella can withstand

winds of up to force ten, and its unique

asymmetrical design means it always finds

the best position in the wind. Since it came

to market in 2007, the Senz umbrella has

gone from strength to strength.

I-optics

Some 10 years ago, Michiel Mensink

noticed that large medtech companies

were slow to innovate. He saw things

differently and developed the i-Optics Easy

Scan, which uses subtle laser technology

to make retinal images of unprecedented

sharpness. Moreover, the elegant design of

the scanner makes it seem less forbidding

to patients and there is no need to use

eye drops. The Easy Scan can perform a

retinal examination for the early detection

of diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular

degeneration and glaucoma all within 3

minutes. Since making the first prototype

at TU Delft in 2007, i-Optics has developed

a range of pioneering diagnostics solutions.

Business incubator YES!Delft helps

students and staff at TU Delft to bring their

knowledge to the market. And it does so

successfully: the vast majority of the 100

companies that it has accommodated since

its establishment in 2005 are still active

today. Some of the start-ups have grown

into companies with dozens of employees

FacultiesAerospace Engineering (AE)

Most staff and students at the AE Faculty

share a passion for flying, be it planes, kites,

satellites or micro air vehicles. Research and

education cover the entire spectrum

of aerospace engineering, from astro-

dynamics to novel aerospace materials,

and also explore related fields such as wind

energy or unmanned underwater vehicles.

AE is the only aerospace engineering faculty

in the Benelux and one of the largest in the

world, and has close ties with the aerospace

industry and various other industries.

Its excellent facilities – which include wind

tunnels, a cleanroom and a flight simulator

– allow students to be involved in practicals

from their first year.

Applied Sciences (AS)

Can quantum physics be used to deal

with big data? Are we able to unravel our

DNA’s mysteries? And how can engineers

contribute to a sustainable society?

The experts in physics, life sciences and

chemical engineering at the AS Faculty

believe that their work should contribute

to change. They cross the borders of

nations, disciplines and industries, and

are front-runners in fundamental research

and applied engineering related to, for

example, biofuels from agricultural waste,

nanomaterials for solar cells and targeted

drug delivery. The renowned department

of Quantum Nanoscience explores new

physics.

Architecture and the Built Environment

(Arch)

The Arch Faculty is one of the largest

architecture faculties in Europe and

a leading design academy, specialising

in design-oriented research. Housing

affordability, aging in place for older adults,

and land use and space concerns are

some of the challenges facing 21st-century

architecture. Researchers at Arch approach

these with the help of a broad range of

disciplines, including city planning, history,

social sciences, real estate development

and geo-information science. They impart

their new insights to clients from industry,

designers, suppliers and those on the actual

building site, and especially to each new

generation of students.

Civil Engineering and Geosciences (CEG)

The need for civil engineers was at the

heart of the foundation of TU Delft in 1842.

The Netherlands – a low-lying, densely

populated delta country – was and still is

dependent on a network of civil engineering

structures to remain habitable. Water-

related engineering is a major theme

of research at the CEG Faculty, as is

improving the robustness and lifespan

of constructions. Knowledge of the

subsurface is important not only for most

building projects, but also for many sorts

of resource extraction, which is CEG’s other

field of study. CEG students can choose

from a host of specialisations, and once

graduated they will find that civil engineers

are in just as much demand as they were

back in 1842.

Electrical Engineering, Mathematics

and Computer Sciences (EEMCS)

Electrical engineering, mathematics

and computer sciences are everywhere.

They are at the heart of systems we use

on a daily basis, like the internet or car

navigation, and in technologies that are

being developed for our future, such as

sustainable methods to generate, store

and distribute electricity. With progressing

globalisation, which is made possible by IT,

our lives will become ever more networked.

Expanding virtualisation will also lead to

new paradigms. The EEMCS Faculty is

at the forefront of these developments,

creating knowledge that will make vital

contributions to global welfare, wellbeing

and security.

Industrial Design Engineering (IDE)

How to create successful products that

people love to use – that, in a nutshell,

is what the IDE Faculty has been teaching

its students for more than 45 years.

IDE is among the largest university design

programmes in the world, and over 5,000

industrial design engineers have graduated

from the faculty since its foundation in

1969. Nowadays, the emphasis is on the

design of durable products and services,

taking into account the interests of users,

industry, society and the environment.

Perhaps design can even be used to

stimulate users to change their behaviour,

thus helping to solve social problems

ranging from obesity to road rage.

Mechanical, Maritime and Materials

Engineering (3mE)

What do minimally invasive surgery, off-

shore dredging and automated driving

have in common? They are all based in

mechanical engineering. In fact, in today’s

world nothing moves without it. At the

Faculty of 3mE, mechanical engineering

has joined forces with maritime and

materials engineering. Jointly, experts in

these three disciplines produce exciting

research on a range of subjects, including

energy, environment, food supplies,

housing, water, transport, security and

healthcare. The scope of the discipline is

one of the attractions for its many students,

who can also get hands-on experience in

first-rate facilities including a robotics lab,

a towing tank and a process technology lab.

Technology, Policy and Management

(TPM)

The success of technology is influenced

by non-technical factors. Just think of

budgets, regulations, or societal accept-

ance. Hence the need for engineers who

also have a command of economics,

administration, communication, and law.

The Faculty of TPM educates these builders

of bridges between technology, policy and

the general public. The Faculty does not

limit its research to one specific domain,

but rather to the development of generic

knowledge about the principles of design

and the relationships within and between

systems. Examples are the development

of moral standards for new technology, and

how technology is changing the relationship

between the business community, citizens

and governments.

for education through open and online education. Online resources are also a valuable

addition to our on-campus programmes. In 2014, we founded the Delft Extension

School, which incorporates our entire online education programme.

Pioneering online education

At Delft, we have a history of online

education. Over the years, more than 120

courses and over 10,000 web lectures

have been made publicly available through

OpenCourseWare. Since 2010, these

materials have also been accessible through

iTunes U. All these courses attract students

from across the globe. We take great pride

in enhancing human learning worldwide.

We are a member of the Open Education

Consortium (OEC) and wholeheartedly

embrace its mission to ensure that

everyone, everywhere has access to the

education they need to build their futures.

Anka Mulder – our vice president for

Education and Operations – received the

consortium’s 2014 Leadership Award for

championing the cause of open education.

MOOCs

In 2013, Delft University of Technology

started offering massive open online

courses (MOOCs) on edX, the open source

education platform founded by MIT and

Harvard. Our first MOOCs – ‘Solar Energy’

and ‘Introduction to Water Treatment’ –

drew the attention of over 80,000 online

students in over 100 countries. Several

thousand participants went on to complete

the course, including all assignments, and

received a certificate. The MOOC on Water

Treatment won an Open MOOC Award

2014 from the Open Education Consortium.

We have since expanded our range of

MOOCs to include subjects ranging from

aeronautical engineering to technology

for biobased products. MOOCs enable us

to share our expert knowledge on these

subjects with a worldwide audience.

They also give us the opportunity to interact

with thousands of interested and interesting

students, making MOOCS a valuable two-

way learning experience.

Online Distance Education

For those who wish to obtain accredited

certificates and diplomas, TU Delft offers

complete and partial online education up

to Master’s level. These programmes are

aimed not only at students, but also at

professionals who are pursuing continuing

education. The Extension School therefore

offers flexible and modular programmes

that are suited to working professionals.

Participants can choose between various

forms of delivery, such as online only or

blended programmes, leading to non-

degree professional certificates. Additional

on-campus (summer) courses can be

taken by those who wish to pursue

a full Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.

Innovating education

Our campus students can benefit from

blended learning – a mix of face-to-face

teaching and online learning. This allows

them to become better prepared for classes

and be more engaged during lectures. Thus,

online resources also improve the learning

experience of our campus students. In term

time, our campus hosts some 19,000 Dutch

and international students, while our online

students can visit the campus between

terms for the necessary lab work and

exams. An interesting side-effect of online

education, especially in the case of MOOCs,

is the amount of data we can accumulate

on study behaviour. This enables us to

continually improve both our online and

our on-campus education.

The Control & Operations core course

programme provides a fundamental

background in operations research,

avionics systems, flight control and

automation. The profile courses a student

attends are associated with one of three

sections (research groups) the student

has joined. The 3 to 4 additional elective

courses are chosen after consulting

and the internship, the student performs

Even with our best efforts to promote

energy efficiency, the global demand for

energy to power our way of life continues

to increase. Clearly, we must develop new

sources of energy.

One of these sources, wind energy, offers

considerable promise: the wind itself

is free, wind power is clean, and it is

inexhaustible. In recent years, research

on wind energy has accelerated, and

new developments in efficient and cost-

effective ways of harnessing wind energy

are making it increasingly attractive and

competitive. The European Wind Energy

Master is an Erasmus Mundus MSc degree

programme that is built upon a body of

emerging research that has the potential to

shape the future of the wind energy sector.

In preparing engineers for a truly global

sector, one of the programme’s goals

is to train professionals to become

resourceful problem solvers who are

capable of collaborating with colleagues

across cultural divides. Students

acquire knowledge in the theoretical

and applied sciences that underlie wind

energy systems, in addition to specific

competencies that they will need in

order to function in your chosen area of

specialisation. Upon successful completion

of the programme, students are awarded

a double MSc degree: one diploma from

each of two partner universities, depending

upon the specialisations that they follow.

The European Commission’s Erasmus

Mundus programme label is awarded to

joint MSc programmes of outstanding

quality. This award includes full

scholarships and fellowships for a

selection of students and visiting scholars.

Erasmus Mundus programmes include

of four universities: Delft University of

The programme has a distinctly international focus and enhances the basic competencies that have been acquired in the pre-master education to a higher level in terms of know-ledge, critical reflection, making judgments and working independently. Students have access to state-of-the-art test and labora-tory facilities that allow them to acquire engineering skills that can directly be used in advanced industrial applications.

To learn to develop as an independently-thinking, professionally-oriented, innovative engineer and researcher, the study requires specialisation. Each student therefore concentrates on a specific field of expertise in Aerospace Engineering, a track. The Master’s programme in Aerospace Engineering offers five tracks: Aerodynamics & Wind Energy, Flight Performance & Propulsion, Control & Operations, Space Flight, and Aerospace Structures & Materials.

MSc Track structureEach track of the MSc programme has a common structure and comprises core, profile and elective courses, a literature study, an internship and the MSc thesis.

The core courses enable the student to develop a broad view on the field of expertise. The profile courses narrow the expertise down to a particular subfield and enable the student to develop a thorough and detailed knowledge of that field. The elective courses provide flexibility to specialise in a particular area of expertise or to add multi-disciplinary elements, repair educational deficiencies or address a personal interest. Students can choose to study some of their elective courses abroad.

In the Aerodynamics and Wind Energy track, the core courses consist of: Viscous flows, CFD I, Aeroelasticity, Rotor Aerodynamics, Ethics for Aerospace Engineers and Research Methodologies.

4.6 Papier

• Papiersoorten De gekozen papiersoorten zijn FSC-gecertificeerd, dit betekent dat de

grondstof voor het papier afkomstig is uit verantwoord beheerde bossen. Voorwaarde voor het gebruik van het FSC-logo is dat de productie wordt gedrukt bij een FSC-gecertificeerde drukker (preferred suppliers zijn bekend bij Media Solutions).

Corporate middelen, bachelor- en mastermiddelen: Plano Superior ongestreken (80, 90, 100, 120, 160, 200, 250,

300 en 400 grs.) Dit is een matte papiersoort.

Bij overig drukwerk heeft men twee papierkeuzes (mat en glanzend): • Luxosatin gestreken (90, 100, 130, 150, 170, 200, 250, 300 en 350 grs.) Dit is een glanzend papiersoort.• Plano Superior ongestreken (80, 90, 100, 120, 160, 200, 250,

300 en 400 grs.) Dit is een matte papiersoort.

• Drukwerkformaten Er wordt zoveel mogelijk gebruik gemaakt van standaard A- formaten, dus A4, A5, A6 etc.

Voor boeken, eenmalige uitgaven en indien het productietechnisch niet anders kan, is een afwijkend formaat mogelijk.

4.7 Fotografie

Beeld is een belangrijk onderscheidend element binnen de huisstijl. Om de beelden zo optimaal mogelijk te laten spreken, werken we in onze

middelen bij voorkeur met een beperkt aantal grote foto’s en niet met een veelheid aan kleine foto’s. We plaatsen foto’s in zijn geheel en waar mogelijk aflopend. We maken geen gebruik van samengestelde beelden (meerdere foto’s bewerkt tot één beeld). Op covers van brochures wordt ook altijd gewerkt met één beeld.

Fotografie heeft de volgende uitgangspunten:

• Corporatefotografie Daar waar het gaat om mensen willen we overtuiging of drive terugzien

op een foto. Alleen foto’s die de personen authentiek in beeld brengen. Mag geposeerd, maar wel naturel en krachtig. Personen worden

geportretteerd in hun natuurlijke habitat binnen de TU Delft. Dat geldt zowel voor studenten als medewerkers. Daar waar het gaat om faciliteiten, maken we zoveel mogelijk gebruik van abstracte fotografie. Dus bij opstellingen, labs en onderzoeksfaciliteiten wordt ingezoomd op een onderwerp, waarbij het niet gaat om de functionaliteit van het onderwerp, maar meer om een krachtige/technische uitstraling.

• Wervingfotografie Fotografie ten behoeve van de Bachelor- en masterwerving is realistisch,

laat de werkelijkheid zien en is niet romantisch (what you see is what you get).

- Mensen en/of oplossingen staan centraal. - Mensen poseren niet maar worden in hun natuurlijke omgeving/bezig

gefotografeerd. - De achtergrond vertelt altijd over het vakgebied of de werkomgeving. De pose is zoveel mogelijk ongedwongen. - Laat geregeld samenwerking zien en geeft een weergave van de diversiteit

van nationaliteiten binnen onze universiteit.

• Technische aspecten - Gebruik van scherptediepte; focus creëren op het onderwerp of de

persoon.- De foto’s hebben een lichte, heldere en frisse uitstraling.

4.8 Film

Om de video’s binnen de TU Delft een uniforme uitstraling te geven en een duidelijke afzender hebben we templates ontwikkeld voor intro’s, outro’s en naamsvermeldingen.

Het intro zal slechts 2 – 3 seconden duren waarna de video direct start. De outro kan langer aanhouden en ruimte bieden voor extra informatie. Omdat de film zichtbaar is achter de titelaanduidingen is er voor verschillende software pakketten een animatietemplate ontwikkeld. In Windows Moviemaker, iMovie, After Effects, Premiere Pro en Final Cut Pro, zijn templates ontwikkeld waarin eenvoudig teksten kunnen worden aangepast.
