The Ascension of the Lord: Today we recall Christ’s ascension to his Father in heaven. Before he left, he promised his disciples that he would be with them always. Indeed, the Lord is with us when we gather in his name, as we listen to the word of God, and as the bread and wine are consecrated. Let us celebrate the assurance that Chris is with us always, now and until the end of time. La Ascensión del Senor: Hoy recordamos la ascensión de Cristo a su Padre en el cie-lo. Antes de irse le prometió a sus discípulos que permanecería con ellos siempre . Today as we celebrate the feast of the Ascen-sion, we are reminded that Christ’s saving work on earth continues through his disci-ples...and now through us. Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that to-gether we can bring peace to those who are hungry.
We would like to thank the parishioners of St. John for the generous contribution of $614 for the month of April. During April, we visited 23 households and assisted with electric and water bills along with food, personal care items and housing costs. The total expendi-tures were $6,751.39. Many blessings for all of you. Hoy, al celebrar la fiesta de la Ascensión, se nos recuerda que la obra salvadora de Cristo en la tierra continua a través de sus discípu-los...y ahora a través de nosotros. To be put into practice during the Week of May 23rd through May 29th, and thereafter.
7. Ardent Love Of all the virtues that we are called to practice that of ardent love, sometimes called charity, is the greatest of all. (Read the beautiful hymn of love of Saint Paul: I Corinthians 13). Our Lady practiced love to a sublime degree and in two ways, for love or charity has two dimen-sions. Mary at all times and places, loved God first and foremost. However, Mary expressed concretely her love for God by her ardent love for neighbor. Examples of this. In the Annunci-ation, through her unconditional Yes Mary showed her total and unreserved love for God. However, moving in haste to visit her cousin Elizabeth, Mary manifested great love for neighbor. May we say, in imitation of Mary and in the words of Saint Paul, “The love of God compels me.” (2 Cor 5:14) May we learn this double commandment—love of God and love of neighbor—and strive to live it out on a daily basis. Saint John of the Cross states: “In the twilight of our existence, we will be judged on love.” 8. Heroic Patience Not one of us can say that we are patient at all times, in all places, and all circumstances. Unlike Mary, who manifested remarkable pa-tience! Consider Mary in her pregnancy, travel-ling the long trek to Bethlehem and then being rejected—what great patience! Losing the Child Jesus when He was twelve years of age for three long days before finding Him in the Tem-ple—another manifestation of heroic patience! Most especially, in accompanying Jesus in His Passion leading up to His brutal Crucifixion and death, Mary manifested an unequalled patience! When our patience is put to the test, let us call out to Mary for her assistance. She will never fail us!

Families of 2020 Graduates. St. John would like to recognize those High School and College Students who will be gradu-ating this Spring/Summer. At this time we ask each family to email or mail a current picture of your Graduate and a short biography (2 to 3 sentences). Please include a contact person and phone number. (The contact person should not be the Graduate.) Familias de los Graduados de 2020. San Juan quisiera reconocer a los estudiantes que se graduaran de la High School o de la Uni-versidad esta primavera/verano. EIM WORKSHOP (during pandemic). EIM Policies require all clergy, religious, semi-narians, employees and adult volunteers serv-ing in a ministry requiring EIM compliance to submit an EIM Application for Ministry (one-time only) and attend an EIM Workshop at least once every three years. No new EIM Applica-tions are being accepted/submitted during this time of COVID-19 and all in-person EIM Work-shops have been suspended. However, the EIM Office has created a Temporary Online EIM Training to fulfill the compliance requirement for those who already have an EIM account and are due or past due to attend an EIM Workshop. 7. Amor Ardiente De todas las virtudes que estamos llama-dos a practicar, la del amor ardiente, a veces también llamado caridad, es la más grande de todas. (Lea el hermoso himno de amor de San Pablo: 1 Corintios 13). La Virgen practicó el amor en un grado subli-me y de dos maneras, porque el amor o caridad tiene dos dimensiones. María en todo momento y lugar, amó a Dios sobre todas las cosas. Sin embargo, María ex-presó concretamente su amor por Dios con su amor ardiente por el prójimo. Ejemplos de esto: En la Anunciación, a través de su Sí Incondicional María mos-tró su amor total y sin reservas por Dios. Sin embargo, apresurándose a visitar a su prima Elizabeth, María manifestó gran amor por el prójimo. Podemos decir que imitando a María y en las palabras de san Pablo: "El amor de Dios me gobierna." (2 Co 5:14) Que aprendamos este doble mandamiento —el amor a Dios y el amor al prójimo— y que nos esforcemos por vivirlo a diario. San Juan de la Cruz dice:
"En el crepúsculo de nuestra existencia, seremos juzgados por nuestro amor." 8. Paciencia Heroica Ninguno de nosotros puede decir que somos pacientes en todo momento, en todos los lugares y en todas las circuns-tancias. ¡A diferencia de María, quien ma-nifestó una paciencia extraordinaria! Con-sidera a María en su embarazo, viajando la larga caminata a Belén y luego siendo rechazada, ¡qué gran paciencia! Perder al Niño Jesús cuando tenía doce años de edad durante tres largos días antes de encontrarlo en el Templo, ¡otra manifesta-ción de paciencia heroica! Muy especial-mente, al acompañar a Jesús en Su Pa-sión antes de Su Crucifixión y muerte bru-tal, ¡María manifestó una paciencia sin igual! Cuando nuestra paciencia sea puesta a prueba, pidamos a María su ayuda. ¡Ella nunca nos fallará! Pray the Rosary with our Holy Father Pope Frances this month.
