What is Rotary Club for …….

After a hectic month of August

2019, we had a few weeks of hia-

tus due to गणेळोत्वल, गौयी ऩजून etc. However, this also provided

opportunity for some off-beat OR

शटके fellowships. The गणेळ दळशन or Heritage Walk

was very successful and enjoyable. The rain did not

dampen the spirit of 26 or so brave hearts, who

enthusiastically trudged from mandal to mandal in

each others’ company. Our MCOE Rotaract Presi-

dent and Rotaractor Pranali also joined us. The

breakfast thereafter provided another opportunity

for assimilation and getting to know each other

better through chit-chat sessions. Metropolitans

also visited each other’s houses for गौयी ऩजूा,जेलण,

etc. It was a typical festive time, not affected by

rains.

“Two Minutes Jalwa” hosted by our Club on

behalf of District Cultural Committee on 21st August

2019 was a demonstration of our team spirit and

whole-hearted contribution from all members. Con-

vener, Rtn Vandana Joglekar, did a marvelous job.

We had thrown the competition open to non-

Rotary Club groups for the first time this year. Re-

sponse was enthusiastic. We did not expect so

many school children to be involved. However,

their performances electrified the whole scene. It

was a great competition. I liked our last-minute en-

try too. Secretary Sneha Subhedar and PP Aneel

Joshi put up a good show, though they worked on it

for a few hours only!

October is going to be full of activities and

festivities too. Let the Rotary spirit of fellowship

and service soar high!!

I want to take this opportunity to raise a query

to all of you. What is Rotary Club primarily for? Is it to

execute social service projects? OR is it to foster spirit

of fellowship, camaraderie and strong bonding be-

tween Club members, who come from diverse back-

ground and are supposed to represent a cross section

of the community. If former, the Club veers towards a

volunteer NGO which is assessed by type/ quality/ vol-

ume of service projects. The Club Service avenue,

which is also a important function of the President &

his BoD, is relegated to second priority. If I think of it as

a membership service organization, then the assess-

ment or effectiveness of President + BoD can be on the

basis of quality of weekly meetings, special programs,

fellowships, etc. which increase networking amongst

members and strengthen membership structure of the

Club. Service Projects then happen as a byproduct of

desire of members to do some social service, while

they are together. What do you all think? Do write

back to me. If the Club programs, meetings and fellow-

ships are eagerly looked forward to by all members,

this is reflected in the attitude and behavior of mem-

bers. Membership growth, retention, etc. is automatic

and good service projects emerge from the efforts of

all members.

My dilemma is also fueled by the fact that to

make our Club more vibrant, irresistible and appealing

to prospective candidates who are somewhat younger

than us, we need to make radical changes in Club Ser-

vice avenue. This can only be done with your full un-

derstanding and cooperation.

Finance Management Lecture in MCOE Rotaract

Our Ann, Madhavi Kulkarni, gave a talk on Financial

Management in MCOE Rotaract Club on 21st Septem-

ber 2019. By the time the lecture started , the place

was more than half full. But when it ended, the hall

was overflowing.

Ann Madhavi had

structured talk/

presentation very

well. Starting with

an extract from

their syllabus and

simple topics, she slowly went deep in to the subject,

but covered all details and nuances in simple words.

Her lecture was oriented towards budding entrepre-

neurs and self-employed. .

Ann Madhavi also success-

fully fielded all questions by

the students and clarified

various aspects. I am sure

that, after her talk, many

students would have felt it

necessary to more about topics such as balance

sheets, costing, ledgers, etc.

On 5th September 2019, the installation cere-

mony of new board members was conducted in Mod-

ern College of Engineering, Electrical Engineering De-

partment.

Rtr Shivam Pavargi had taken special efforts to

arrange this function and also to let the new Rotaract

members know how to conduct this function. Gauri

and Pranali conducted this function. First, HoD Dr.

Mrs. N. R. Kulkarni gave a brief speech. She said that

the students should take the initiative not only to

start such activities but to maintain the continuity

year-after-year.

Mali was given the collar and the badge. He then ap-

pointed the Secretary Rushikesh Borse and the Treas-

urer Saurabh Wani. Later all other board members

were given the badges. Rtr President Mangesh Mali

said that he would work with Rotary Club of Pune

Metro ( RCPM ) and District Rotaractors to make this

a vibrant club President Mukund Chiplunkar in his

brief speech mentioned Rotray Club of Pune Metro’s

thinking behind starting and supporting this club. Ro-

taract Dist. Pres. Akshay More urged the students to

make use of the platform as much as possible.

In the open forum, Rtn Avinash Joshi told to

use the platform of Rotaract Club to become a well

rounded personality. RCPM’s Director, Hemant Atre,

stressed the use of the Rotaract Club and it’s various

programs by active participation. He observed that

the current employment or start-up scenario in the

country is stressing for better personality. Lastly Rtr

Shivam Pavargi thanked the college authorities for

giving the opportunity to start and develop the Rota-

ract Club.

School

On September 18, 2019 Best Out of Waste

Competition was organized for Interact Club mem-

bers of Agashe High School. The competition was

conducted in two categories, individual and group ( 2

to 5 members together ) making the articles

On August 27, 2019 Rangoli, Poster making and

टाकाऊतून टटकाऊ Competitions were organized for

Interact Club members of Rathi High School.

Interact members were to make their articles at

home and bring the ready-to-display articles in the

school on the day of the competition. For Rangoli

competition and Poster making competition, Interact

members were asked to draw on the spot which was

supposed to convey the meaningful message to

Lecture on Leadership and Team building in Versatile High School

On September 14, 2019 a lecture on Leadership and Team building was organized for Interact Club members of Versatile High School . It was delivered by Rtn. Brig. Sunil Go-khale.

Brig. Sunil Gokhale is retired from Indian Army as a Brigadier it was a PowerPoint presentation with Sunil explaining the leader-ship concepts. He showed vari-ous leaders like Shivaji Maharaj, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Rani Laxmibai Mahendra Singh Dhoni etc. and explained why these people were called leaders. He mentioned various

characteristics like knowledge, integrity, abil-ity to learn etc. He was narrating some of the real life experiences like how a small battle was fought under his leadership with Pakistan Army at the most unexpected time,

some planning and execution behind it. With this he end-ed his lecture.
