MIDDLE CREEK WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA MIDDLE CREEK WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA MIDDLE CREEK Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area Mailing Address: PO Box 110 Kleinfeltersville PA 17039 717-733-1512 PENNSYLVANIA GAME COMMISSION State Headquarters 2001 Elmerton Avenue Harrisburg, PA 17110-9797 717-787-4250 www.pgc.pa.gov Region Offices Northwest: 814-432-3187 Southwest: 724-238-9523 Northcentral: 570-398-4744 Southcentral: 814-643-1831 Northeast: 570-675-1143 Southeast: 610-926-3136 LF 0119 Visitors Center The Visitors Center features a variety of displays of waterfowl and oth- er wildlife that inhabit the area. Theres also a viewing area that overlooks the lake and a songbird feeding staon. The center also hosts numerous programs & acvies throughout the year. Current informaon about programs can be found on the PGC website. Peak viewing mes for waterfowl coincide with the spring and fall migraons. For snow geese, the first week in March is generally the peak for viewing this amazing migraon spectacle, when tens of thousands of them descend on the area. Programs for schools, groups and scouts are available year-round. A brochure detailing educaonal opportunies can be picked up at the front counter. The Visitors Center is open from February 1 unl Thanksgiving, Tuesday through Saturday, 8am to 4pm, and Sunday, noon to 5pm. Make sure to check out our radio tour! Tune into 1620 AM for a more guided tour of the Wildlife Management Area! The Visitors Center GPS Address: 100 Museum Road Stevens, PA Jacob Dingel Jacob Dingel Joe Kosack PROPAGATION AREA A 756-acre wildlife propagaon area has been set aside as a sanctuary for nesng waterfowl and other animals. No hunng, fishing or any other acvity is allowed in this area. Mounted yellow signs and wire connecng each post designate the propagaon area. CONTROLLED HUNTING AREA Most of the agricultural lands at Middle Creek have been designated as a controlled hunng area. Hunng/ trapping is by permit only, and special regulaons apply. Middle Creek features goose/duck hunng within the controlled area. Permiees to hunt this area are selected by public drawing held prior to the hunng season. Only electronic applicaons found on the Pennsylvania Game Commissions website are accepted. An individual may apply only to one area (Middle Creek or Pymatuning) per year and may submit only one applicaon. The majority of the hunng occurs from pit blinds located in fields. An annual archery and primive deer hunt is also administered at Middle Creek. The goal is to bal- ance the deer herd with their habitat and to allow the opportunity for wildlife viewing. Parcipants for each hunt are selected from a public drawing. A permied trapping opportunity is also held each year. Trappers are selected by a public drawing. In- quire about hunng and trapping opportunies at the Visitors Center or call for more informaon. PUBLIC HUNTING AREA The remainder of Middle Creek (SGL 46) consists primarily of wooded habitat, and is open for small game and deer hunng opportunies during appropriate seasons. All game laws and regulaons apply. Many other acvies are also permied in these areas. A map of hiking trails is available at the Visitors Center. Condions perming, from March 1 st unl Septem- ber 30th, vehicles are permied on designated roads open to traffic. One-way traffic regulaons must be observed. A Driving Tour brochure is available at the Visitors Center. A closed gate indicates the area is closed and entry is prohibited. PUBLIC RECREATION AREA Designated as a public recreaon area, this secon includes the Visitors Center, a 40-acre fishing area within the main impoundment and 3 picnic areas. Fishing within the controlled and propagaon areas or from the dam breast is prohibited. Non-motorized boats are permied May 16 through September 14. Sailboats and electric motors are prohibited. Boats must be launched from the designated boat launch located at the base of the Red Rock picnic area along Millstone Road. Overnight mooring is prohibited. Fishing from shore and ice fishing are permied, but the PGC does not monitor ice condions, so ice fishing is at your own risk. Open fires are prohibited; self-contained stoves or charcoal grills are permied unless otherwise designated by a manager. Pets must be leashed. Jacob Dingel Located in the heartland of southeast Pennsylvania, the Game Commissions Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area is a mecca for wildlife and wildlife enthusiasts alike. The 6,254-acre facility, created in 1973, is home to pheasants and deer, bluebirds and coontails, and many other wild animals. The area is parcularly noted for the thousands upon thousands of ducks, geese and swans that drop in during their spring and fall migraons. Middle Creek is also a popular desnaon for teachers and students, birders and hikers, and hunters and anglers, too.
