Dear Cattle Owner,

Welcome as a reader of this special Newsletter!Last year, 2014, was a particularly busy and eventful year for K.I.SAMEN. As you perhaps may have noticed in our advertisements, we introduced our new house- style. Our core values formed the basis for our house-style: Down to Earth, Open & Transparent, Freedom, Traditional and above all Passion! The advertisement links from the introduction of the newsletter clearly state our core values. Passion for good cows, Passion at K.I. SAMEN!

What we also place high value on is the showing of daughters during events. In the past year, K.I. SAMEN has presented at least 5 daughter groups to the public!In June 2014, thousands of visitors to the NRM could admire the groups of MALANDO and NORWIN rc, at our stand and in the ring. Both daughter groups were chosen by the public as Best Red & White Holstein and Best Black & White Holstein Daughter Group NRM 2014! We were - and still are - very pleased and proud of this! You could not bestow a better honour on this company and all her employees! In the autumn of 2014, we showed three impressive daughter groups at three consecutive Cattle and Mechanical Trade Shows. TOMAHAWK had a smashing debut in Hardenberg, BOBAX surprised everyone in Gorinchem and (Cogent) TWIST showed exactly what he’s made of. Twist is in England with his Cogent owner: K.I.SAMEN is the Dutch straw importer of Cogent bull semen.

This special newsletter is a special tribute to these daughter groups and we would like to share this success with you! Next to the photos of the bull and daughter groups on the following pages you will find backgroundinformation of the four K.I. SAMEN bulls that are still in good health and are in our barns: Bobax, Tomahawk, Norwin rc and Malando. Sons from the last three mentioned breeding bulls are also in our barns and have already been identified as Future Bulls. Unfortunately, in this special newsletter there is only place to mention three of them: FAWI NOVIA; son of NORWIN rc, REDSPOT; son of MALANDO and MR.BILL, son of TOMAHAWK.

BOBAX - It’s as easy as that!

Brakels BOBAX is a Baxter son from Gerda 15, an EX 90 Bonatus daughter from a Woudhoeve Russel grand dam.Gerda 15 is still living, has already more than 70,000 kg of milk production and is 10 years old. Her great-grand dam is a BELL REX daughter, with 135,974 kg of milk life produc-tion and her Thonyma Gambler dam has already produced 83,592 kg.

BOBAX is free van O-Man, Goldwyn, and Shottle blood and can be easily used without too much worry. The Gerda’s, his maternal line, are known for their enormously high fat and protein levels and very high life productions (and therefore high durability). In addition, this Gerda line knows how to hold their own in terms of conformation.

The dam of BOBAX, Gerda 15 has already won the Champion-ship at the Breeders Day Hellevoetsluis once. Her first grand daughter (daughter van BOBAX) has already been Reserve Champion Heifer during the yearly Breeders Day in Helle-voetsluis! Brakels BOBAX is breed by Swank Partnership from

Nieuw-Beijerland. Mts. Swank have some BOBAX daughters that they milk and describe them as real dairy heifers. The daughters of BOBAX are, in terms of height, taller than aver-age and have a somewhat wider chest width, open frames and plenty of body. Additionally, these heifers have wide rumps. Thus, the daughters of BOBAX are built somewhat heavier than the average heifer. Bobax daughters are well registered with remarkably good udders.

The easy, calving BOBAX seems to have inherited many good qualities from both his father’s and mother’s side. A bull who passes on very fine, well producing cows who continue to profit from the durability passed on by both the paternal and maternal sides. Easy calving bull, refreshing bloodline, good productions, fine conformation and longevity - all ingredients are present! If we look at his dam and the family behind her, it just goes to show that the proof is what is seen in practice and not what is on paper. We hope that the BOBAX daughters will grow into fantastic dairy cows whom we can enjoy for a long time and without problems in and outside of the dairy barn!

TOMAHAWK - Impressive black beauty’s!

TOMAHAWK is a producer of real black beauty’s!Given the fact that his line has at least 6 generations ofExcellent cows, this is completely in line with exceptions. His grand dam Venetie 2 (EX91) has a NRM Championship to her name, just as Venetie 5 (VG89), Tomahawk’s half-sister. She has added yet another NRM Heifer Championship to the awards cabinet of the well-known JIMM breeder. TOMAHAWK is a real black beauty himself! An impressi-ve appearance and registered with Frame 87, Legs 88, Musculature 86; resulting in a Total of VG87. His lineage of Tandem x Rembrandt x Emerson, his beautiful aAa code and his complete inheritance pattern makes Tomahawk an

easy bull to combine with the current population. In addition to good production, Tomahawk’s daughters all have the potential to be good show cows. The 3 Tomaha-wk daughter from John de Vries (his breeder), are all registe-red: VG 88, VG 88 en EX 90! VERY IMPRESSIVE!Tomahawk’s breeder John de Vries has benefited from and enjoyed these Tomahawk daughters ever since they started their first lactation, and continues to do so daily. He des-cribe his Tomahawk daughters as: “Easy, inconspicuous, good producers and self-sufficient cows. They are real pro-fessional cows who will not cause any problems and from whom you will have much pleasure!”

NORWIN rf - All-round POWERHOUSE!

In a nutshell, NORWIN rc is a true K.I. SAMEN bull! Manyby-passed this bull based on expected figures at the time. It’s really only when one looks at him (and his maternal line) does it become evident that this is a special bull. Even as a young bull NORWIN rc was already very well built and a strong bull. All the bull experts at K.I. SAMEN said “This is one we should be testing!”. NORWIN rc is the only son of Stormin Norman in the world who has been tested, and who provides the necessary genetic variation and necessary fresh blood.The dam of NORWIN rc is the famous German cow Meggilee, registered with EX91 Total. This Comestar Lee daughter is also known as the dam of two successful daughters. Firstly the red & whiteHolstein Talent daughter Maxima (EX94) who has obtained, just like her dam, several impressive Championships. Secondly, we have the red & white Holstein September Storm daughter Mary Rose (EX90) who has delivered several proven bulls. After the NRM 2012 show, the NORWIN rc’s daughter group were chosen by the public (and by the readers of the Dutch MagazineVeeteelt) as the “Best Daughter Group of NRM”. In 2014, K.I. SAMENwere once again proud to present a progeny group of Norwin rc: this time a group of older cows. It is special to note that three of the NORWIN rc daughters that were present in June 2012 were also present in June 2014! Easy calving bull NORWIN rc had in April 2014 - 36 lactation daughters in his proof and of these 36 daugh-

ters 5 of them were in the ring showing during the NRM! A unique achievement that just goes to show the enormous life production of this family which is clearly reflected in the descendants of Norwin rc. When we look at the daughters of NORWIN rc we see strength and milk. His daughters tend to produce plenty of milk even when in some cases his lineage doesn’t promise it. They have enough body widths and hardiness. This results in an enormous progression from the first to subsequent lactations. NORWIN rc stands for good daughter fertility and a very good cell count. The combination of the important charac-teristics - hardiness, width and strength - are contributing factors to his success. NORWIN rc is a bull, that more than surpasses in practice what is written on paper about his production traits and conformati-on. Practical proven breeding!NORWIN rc is also a pure SAMEN bull because he books results. He holds a number of unique properties, which are desperately needed in today’s increasingly narrow breeding (both in terms of bloodlines and physically in terms of the cows) . With his red carrier he can add his qualities to not only the black & white but also to the red & white Holstein population. In conclusion NORWIN rc is a very desirable bull due to the very qualities that other bulls lack: strength, bloodline and balance! MALANDO - A Red & White topper in production

I gotta feeling...!! A sensational musical number that refers to a promising spectacle. Early in 2014, the moment arri-ved when the question was asked at K.I.SAMEN “Which daughter group will we be showing this year at the All Hol-land Dairy show (the NRM)?”, which was responded to with a unanimous “MALANDO”….MALANDO is a typical example of a bull that has achieved the ALL-ROUND status! In comparison to other generations, MALANDO manages to maintain improvement in terms of production, conformation, as well as health characteristics. An important reason for this are the MALANDO daughters, who have the will to produce, along with an indispensable component of POWER! The maternal line of MALANDO originally comes from the USA and belongs to one of the best Red Holstein families. The central cow in this lineage is the well-used Ron-Nan Leader Mitzy (VG89). The Leader Mitzy family is known to have a huge desire to produce milk, combined with very

good udders and solid leg work.The moment his daughters start to produce they show what MALANDO is capable of. Very good milk production accom-panied by huge levels and which can be sustained from the start of one lactation until the end of another. Characteristic of the MALANDO daughters are wide, long, sloping rumps accompanied with high rear udders; an unique combination. Easy calving bull MALANDO is another K.I.
