‘gargouilles’ op de tentoonstelling pure peinture, diksmuide, 2007
de titel van de tentoonstelling pure peinture zegt het toch. en was voor ons een hoofdaanleiding nieuwsgierig te komen kijken. in plaats van idee-alleen concept-mensen, kunststrategen, verstand-artiesten, virtuele virtuosen (hoe goed ze ook mogen zijn) etc. hebben we hier weer te maken met schilderen.
naar mijn gevoel als oude en ouderwetse schilder iets waar ik mij werkelijk over verheugen kan. de verf, de materie ervan, de reuk, het erin-duiken, de sfeer in het atelier –het geluksgevoel daarbij– ik dacht dat dat allemaal voorgoed verloren was. en nu wordt dat kennelijk weer ontdekt.

the title of the exhibition pure peinture says it all. and was for us the main reason to be intrigued visitors. instead of idea-only concept-artists, art-strategists, mind-artists, virtual virtuosi (no matter how good they can be), etc. what we have here again is painting.
this i feel, as an old and old-fashioned painter, to be something i can really be delighted about. the paint, the matter, the smell, the diving-in, the atmosphere of the studio -the sheer happiness about it- was something I thought was lost forever. and now apparently it is being rediscovered.
