Studies on Photoperiodic Response in the Expansion of Blooming Period in Garden Chrysanthemum

Abstract Experiments were conducted at Floriculture Section of National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow to study the photoperiodic response in the expansion of blooming period in Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramal. Thirty five cultivars were tested for their response to photoperiod by subjecting them to artificially created short- day (shading from 5 pm to 7 am) and long -day (additional lighting from 10 pm to 2 am). Ten of them were found to be sensitive, since short days hastened the blooming through extended night length while long-day treatment delayed it in all the 25 varieties. Maximum hastening 15 days was recorded in cv.
