Success Factors at the School Level

You will hear us compliment the children all the time. You will hear us thank them. We

tell them we love them every single day, and how much we appreciate them. We have nine

hundred students and it is important to us that we connect with each of them every

dayThat is part of our core value system here. We let children know we believe in them.Muriel Summers, Principal, A.B. Combs Elementary School

[Taken from the book, The Leader in Me, Stephen R. Covey, 2008]

Belief in the value and potential of each child and of each educator

Commitment to the development of character and life skills

Alignment of school vision, mission, values, and strategies

service to ask the hard questionsand search for real solutions.Service-Learning programs

explicitly include features whichfoster participants' learning

about the larger social issuesbehind the human needs to

    which they are responding".

    The Ripple Effect

Your behavior influences others through a ripple effect.

A ripple effect works because everyone influences everyone else.

    Powerful people are powerful influences.

If your life works, you influence your family,

If your family works, your family influences the community.

If your community works, your community influences the nation.

If your nation works, your nation influences the world.

If your world works, the ripple effect spreads throughout the cosmos.

Remember that your influence begins with you and ripples outward. So be sure that your influence is both potent and wholesome.

    John Heider, The TaoofLeadership
