Karin Cattell lectures in the Afrikaans Department at Vista University (Sowetocampus). She is currently working on her doctorate entitled "N.P. van Wyk Louw endie utopie van 'n nasionale letterkunde".

Heilna du Plooy is professor in Afrikaanse en Nederlandse letterkunde en Literatuur-wetenskap in die Skool vir Tale aan die Potchefstroomse Universiteit vir CHO. Sy hetgepromoveer met 'n proefskrif oor verhaalteoriee en doen steeds navorsing oorverhalende literatuur en narratologie, tans veral oor ruimte in kontemporereAfrikaanse tekste.

Benton Jay Komins is an assistant professor in the American Culture and LiteratureDepartment and Cultures, Civilizations and Ideas at Bilkent University in Ankara,Turkey. As the founding coordinator, he developed the Program in Cultures,Civilizations and Ideas. In 2001-2002, he will be a resident fellow at The Center forthe Humanities at Oregon State University, USA. His main areas of interest arenineteenth- and twentieth-century American, French, and German literature andculture, popular culture, the visual arts, and theories of subjectivity.

Michael Marais teaches in the Department of English at Rand Afrikaans University.His doctoral thesis was on the fiction of J.M. Coetzee and his current researchinterests include the relation between the ethics of Emmanuel Levinas and theaesthetics of Maurice Blanchot.

Phaswane Mpe teaches Publishing Studies and African Literature at the Universityof the Witwatersrand. His novel, Welcome to Our Hillbrow, and short story collection,Brooding Clouds (a working title) are due for publication by the University of NatalPress.

Michael Titlestad teaches in the Department of English at the University of SouthAfrica. His current research concerns the representation of music, particularly jazz,as a model for social conduct and as a site of cultural recovery. He publishes in boththe fields of jazz studies and postcolonial literary theory.
