Doel en beperkingen• Ik wil u drie minder gepraktiseerde onderzoeksbenaderingen laten zien• Een appetizer: meer niet• Het kan in de beschikbare tijd alleen maar ruw en ongenuanceerd gebeuren• Dat is niet goed• Maar hopelijk is het wel genoeg om uw belangstelling te wekken

Doel en beperkingen

Fenomenologisch onderzoek

1 Welk inzicht komt eruit voort? Hoe het geleefde leven zich aan de betrokkenen voordoet, van binnenuit dus, op het niveau van geleefde betekenis

2 Waar is dat goed voor? Corrigeert de overkill van objectiverende kennis: van buitenaf, analytisch, schematiserend, reductionistisch en daardoor ‘onrealistisch’

3 Hoe doe je dit soort onderzoek? Door open in woord en beeld (vanuit de 1e persoon enkelvoud) te reconstrueren hoe de werkelijkheid zich aan de betrokkenen voordoet, met name in tijd, plaats, lichaam etc., welke betekenis er kennelijk aan beleefd wordt

4 Wat kun je ermee? De zorg heel veel beter afstemmen op de realiteit van de betrokkenen en ontdoen van zijn simplismen en ideologie: terug naar de zaken zelf!

5 Voorbeelden Heel erg veel beter begrijpen wat het is om (bijv.) te lijden aan borstkanker, dementie, MS of te leven van de bijstand, als illlegaal in Nederland, als opgejaagde verpleegkundige in een ziekenhuis etc.

• interruptietijd (de periodes dat je ‘gepakt’ en ‘geclaimd’ kunt worden en eenmaal geclaimd niet weg komt)• de wachttijd (je kunt wel wat en wilt ook wel wat maar je wacht op een ander, bijv. de dokter) en discontinue tijd (anderen gaan verder)

(Critical) Discourse Analysis

1 Welk inzicht komt eruit voort? Met welke taal, begrippen, beelden en logica’s de sociale werkelijkheid gecreëerd  en in stand wordt gehouden. 

2 Waar is dat goed voor? Het toont de vrijwel onzichtbare macht die ons dagelijks leven regeert en ‘vanzelfsprekend’ maakt en zo posities veilig stelt en vrijheden afsnijdt.

3 Hoe doe je dit soort onderzoek? Aan de taal door bijv. documenten heel secuur te ontleden op hun woordgebruik, constructies, verzwegen aspecten etc. 

4 Wat kun je ermee? Vrijwel onzichtbare weerstanden tegen verandering zichtbaar maken, laten zien welke werkelijkheidsopvattingen er zijn en van welke begrippen beleid zich bedient om te kunnen doorzetten

5 Voorbeelden Beroemd zijn de CDA in kwesties rond gender, racisme, patiëntposities, marktwerking, beter worden etc. Op het beleidsterrein: spreken over transparantie, solidariteit, kwetsbaarheid etc.: waar gaat het eigenlijk over, welke werkelijkheid wordt ons opgedrongen, hoe wordt de werkelijkheid voorgesteld? 2 Waar is dat goed voor? Heel wenselijke verbreding van de registers waaruit onderzochten mogen putten om iets uit te leggen

3 Hoe doe je dit soort onderzoek? Kan op vele manieren: a.d.h.v. een opdracht maken mensen met beperkte middelen iets (‘artefact’) en daarover wordt een verhaal verteld

4 Wat kun je ermee? Vrijwel onuitspreekbare ideeën en gevoelens naar boven halen en daaromheen tot elkaar komen (van therapie tot community building)
