CAPS & GAAPS"You don't make a loss in the stock market till the time you

exit your investment."

Being the finance club of SOM, Caps & Gaaps organized

an event on 16th January to explain how functioning in stock

market occurs. Surya Pratap, 1st year MBA student asserted

the concept with the help of mock stock trading site

"moneybhai.moneycontrol.com", where students need to

make their portfolio and transact the virtual money by

investing in stocks, bonds, fixed deposits and mutual funds.

The event was full of learning and it clarified the theory of

stock exchange in the minds of students.

Dr. Palakh Jain

Water has been America's most popular drink since 2013. Previously, Soda held the title for

30 years.

When Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012 for $1 Billion, the 15-month old Instagram had

only 13 employees and a handful of investors.

Sleeping on your left side has myriad health benefits. It aids digestion, reduces heartburn,

boosts brain health and reduces snoring and sleep apnea.

The inventor of the USB had originally intended for it to be flippable, however, that idea was

scrapped due to the extra cost.

Times Now team did a video shoot as a part of their pre-budget series “What Indian Youth

Want”, led by Dr. Nilanjan Banik. The discussion involved the students expressing what

they look forward to in the budget for the year 2020. Dr. Banik focused on the importance

of getting livelihood to the people living in rural areas and the creation of more jobs. The

students voiced their opinion regarding the need for a greater level of financial help in

higher education. The topic of taxes was also picked up and the students provided

suggestions on how to get more people to file the taxes and increase the contribution of

people in the government’s revenue. The students also talked about how complex the tax

structure currently is and how a majority of the price they pay goes as a part of the tax.  The

discussion also covered areas of healthcare, infrastructural improvement requirements, etc.

With the budding culture of start-ups, students also expressed their concern for more

support towards the same. On this, Dr. Banik said that even though the government has

said that there have been a lot of initiatives taken for promoting startups, the results are still

to be witnessed. A need for the government to work in coordination with the private sector

was also expressed. In the end, it was concluded that increasing consumption expenditure

should be the number one priority of the budget and then attention must be paid to the

unemployment rates to reach the $5 trillion economy goal.

First, we would like to express our gratitude on behalf of the

entire team of MAGNOSIS for taking out time for this interview.

The purpose of this interview is to break some unnecessary

barriers between the faculty and the students of School of

Management because we as students end up thinking of

professors as just teachers but only the faculty knows that

teaching is only a part of their life and not the whole of it.

Q: How was your day so far?

A: Today? It has been hectic but pretty fun. It’s so wonderful to meet you guys again!

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?

A: The best piece of advice I ever received was that, “Radhika, you are the most unique as

anyone else in the world. So, just treat everyone in the way you would like to be treated by

them.” It’s a beautiful piece of advice given by one of the professors of XLRI that I can never

forget.

Q: If you ever had to choose another career, what would you be doing right now?

A: I am a hard-core H.R. and I would have been an H.R. only. So, H.R. is my top preference in

this.

Q: What qualities of a student do you admire the most?

A: Impeccable curiosity and determination. These are the two things I always look forward

to. I want my students to be absolutely great in terms of curiosity and enthusiasm.

Furthermore, determination is also extremely important along with their curiousness and fun

that they create when they are in the class.

Prof. Radhika Gupta

Prof. Radhika Gupta

A very good evening to you ma’am. It gives us immense

pleasure to interview you today. So,are you ready?

Yes, of course.

Page 5: &%*5034%&4, - bennett.edu.in€¦ · ."(/04*4 1 (glwru v ghvn 'lg \rx nqrz 3 )dfxow\ ,qwhuylhz 3 0 92/80( ,668( 129 -$1 4$)00-0'."/"(&.&/5 /&84-&55&3 $0/5&/54

5

Q: How do you maintain balance between your personal and professional life?

A: Just by two things:

1) To prioritize the moment &

2) My determination to my family and my profession.

Q: We would love to know something about your business. Would you care to share

some vital learnings with us which you have learnt while being entrepreneurial?

A: My business is Crystal Triangle. It is a training organization and we are into the

development of complete training programs for school students as well as college students.

The main aim is to create people with immense passion and immense dedication to make

them global citizens and to help them achieve their goal. In these programs we have

actually collaborated with various institutes in which I have made three different modules

and each module has at least 15 sub programs in itself. So, it’s focuses on comprehensive

and complete development of students starting from 9th standard onwards till at least post-

graduation. It is not board oriented or specific subject oriented. It is something for all. We

welcome everyone and my team and I really want people to reach their full potential from

an early age rather than them realizing decades later that it is something that they want or

don’t want. So, it’s better to realize it very early and follow their path.

Q: Are you fond of travelling and which is the most beautiful place you’ve ever been

to?

A: Not much but the most beautiful place I’ve been to is indeed Switzerland. I have had the

pleasure of being there three times in my life. It’s an alluring place and I always suggest

everyone to go at least once in their lifetime. The other one would be Scotland because it is

also very beautiful. So, a combination of Switzerland and Scotland would be amazing.

Q: If your life was a movie, what song would be on the soundtrack?

A: My movie’s background song would be, “ Yahaan Ke Hum Sikandar, Chaahein to rakh lein

sab ko apni jeb ke andar”...

Q: If a movie was made on your life, what genre would it be?

A: It would probably be an inspirational biopic.

Page 6: &%*5034%&4, - bennett.edu.in€¦ · ."(/04*4 1 (glwru v ghvn 'lg \rx nqrz 3 )dfxow\ ,qwhuylhz 3 0 92/80( ,668( 129 -$1 4$)00-0'."/"(&.&/5 /&84-&55&3 $0/5&/54

Q: They say that happiness is the ultimate goal of human beings yet we define it

differently. While some people derive happiness from having a lot of money, a

luxurious house, globetrotting, for others it is a matter of being around family or

friends, reading a book or just a day off from work. So, how would you define

happiness?

A: When I talk about happiness, it’s a very emotional term. Producing results gives

happiness. When you produce results in every aspect of your life be it personal, emotional or

professional, it makes you happy irrespective of where you are and what is your field of

work. For example, if you are here and if things go well, it gives you happiness. If you are

eating and suddenly you get your favourite food unexpectedly and imagine that has been

cooked by your Mom, it gives us elation. So, in my eyes, when you produce results, be it in

any field, it gives you the boost or the spirit upliftment of achievement and the moment you

feel that achievement, you will always be happy. I have always felt in the same manner and I

hope I can spread this thing that ‘try to produce results in whatever you do.’ Even if you drink

a glass of water, drink it fully. Don’t leave it half empty or half full. Have that pleasure of

drinking each sip of water that rarely people get.

Q: What do you think is the biggest problem our world is facing right now and what in

your eyes could be some good solutions to it?

A: There are many that I think: climate change, pollution, water scarcity but over the ground

which we all can relate, I think ‘hyper dependency on technology’ is one of the biggest

problems. So, when we talk about this parameter, we are so dependent on technology that

we cannot think beyond it. It’s not that it’s not important, it surely is. We have to be digital. It

is billions and billions of rupees that everyone today is spending on technology. But

unfortunately, the personal touch to everything is being lost just because of that

dependency.

So, now we are going to play a rapid fire game: "This or That"

· Mountains or Beaches: Mountains

· Money or Fame: Fame

· School life or College life: College life

· Family or Career: Family

· Latest music or Old music: Old music

· Childhood or Adulthood: Childhood

· Sleeping or Eating: Sleeping

· Brains or Beauty: Combination of both

· Feminism or Equality: Equality

· Luxury or Adventure: Luxury

· Job or Business: Business

Page 7: &%*5034%&4, - bennett.edu.in€¦ · ."(/04*4 1 (glwru v ghvn 'lg \rx nqrz 3 )dfxow\ ,qwhuylhz 3 0 92/80( ,668( 129 -$1 4$)00-0'."/"(&.&/5 /&84-&55&3 $0/5&/54

7

We are going to play another game which is: “Would you rather”

Q: Would you rather be the funniest or the most intelligent in the room?

A: The most intelligent

Q: Never be able to have internet access or never be able to talk on the phone again.

A: Never be able to have internet access

Q: Would you rather change something from your past or be able to see your entire

future?

A: I'd love to be able to see my entire future, anytime.

Q: Would you rather follow your head or follow your heart?

A: Heart

Q: Would you rather eat whatever you want and never gain weight or never age in

your life?

A: Eat whatever I want but still gain weight because I think I will look good when I’ll be

chubby.

Q: Would you rather be considered rude or dishonest?

A: I’m neither rude nor dishonest.

Thank you ma’am, for interacting with us. We had a great time and learnt a lot from

you.

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state, then nearly 14 billion years ago expansion

started with the Big Bang. From that extremely dense ball of matter, the universe has been

expanding ever since. Everything, every piece of matter, living or not, that you see around

yourself was once a part of that dense ball. Everything is connected. Since the dawn of

time, mankind has been trying to get better every day – since the time the Neanderthals

developed tools to the rise of machines in the industrial revolution. We now hold devices in

our pockets that one couldn’t even have imagined a couple of decades ago. Man has been

constantly finding ways to ease life, to fulfill his needs and to connect. While this progress

jump in recent decades has been a norm for our generation, the change from stagnation to

economic growth really was a drastic shift in human history. This massive transformation was

led by innovation, by finding solutions for existing problems and for the problems that we

didn’t even know existed. Human wants have been leading this innovation to even greater

heights. With the rise of automation and technology, we are on our way to a more

connected world. A world where cancer will be treated, a world where we won’t need to

type to search for things, a future where we will be able to do all of these things just by

thinking, a future where our mind will be integrated with computers, where today’s science

fiction will be the living reality. We would have limitless and boundless data that would be

accessed just by thinking. We would connect to people with just a single thought and we

would have access to the entire world. The present is paving the way towards a very

connected future. But we won’t be able to reach there alone. We can only build such a

future by including everyone and standing together.

Page 9: &%*5034%&4, - bennett.edu.in€¦ · ."(/04*4 1 (glwru v ghvn 'lg \rx nqrz 3 )dfxow\ ,qwhuylhz 3 0 92/80( ,668( 129 -$1 4$)00-0'."/"(&.&/5 /&84-&55&3 $0/5&/54

9

We need to restore our connections to a healthy state. In this era, it is in our own personal

selfish best interests that every human on this planet is well off. It’s good for each and every

one of us that a person, from a place you’ve never even heard of, is prospering. The more

people are prosperous, the more the demand for innovation increases, the more the people

get educated and become innovators, researchers and engineers, the increased possibility

of solving complex problems. The work of a poor farmer might not be of much use to you,

but if he is well off, then he can send his children for better education and they might

develop something that might be of interest to you. The more people want the same thing

that you want, the more likely you are to get it. This is the connection that we have used to

get where we are, and this is the connection that will determine our future. We need others

to develop for our own development. My suggestion is that we should all be more selfish and

start helping others more often. This is the mantra towards building a better future.

Page 10: &%*5034%&4, - bennett.edu.in€¦ · ."(/04*4 1 (glwru v ghvn 'lg \rx nqrz 3 )dfxow\ ,qwhuylhz 3 0 92/80( ,668( 129 -$1 4$)00-0'."/"(&.&/5 /&84-&55&3 $0/5&/54

"I have successfully completed a 5 week (25 Nov - 27 Dec, 2019) winter internship at

Lokadrusti NGO. Lokadrusti is a 32 year old NGO with head-office at Khariar, Nuapada,

Odisha and various other locations across Odisha. It works towards creating an environment

for social changes and to empower the weaker sections of the society. Along with providing

training and education to people, they also focus on other major issues such as women

empowerment, sustainable development, eliminating child labour, etc. As an intern there, I

had to work from 9 am to 5 pm, 5 days a week. I was given some space in their head-office

to do my work over there. The employees were extremely helpful & friendly and the

environment was one of bringing about positive impact. My mentor, Mr. Bhutesh Kumar

Meher also instructed and mentored me well and I learnt a lot from everyone there. My main

tasks included preparing and designing their Annual Report for the year 2018-19, developing

a website for their in-office use for better data management and teaching the staff about

various online services to ease their process of data entry and further usage. My other minor

tasks included photography, videography, editing, field visits, etc. I learnt and discovered a

lot about the issues and their possible solutions currently existing in out society. I learnt more

about empathizing with people, the required work culture and the expectations of an

organization from its employees. This was indeed a valuable experience for me."

- Aadim Aryavartta Meher (BBA 2nd Year)

"I did internship in The Climber's main product MyCaptain. It is in Bengaluru, India and its

reach is Pan-India. MyCaptain positions itself as 'India's Most Passionate Learning

Community'. It is an IIM Bangalore incubated startup and a UN recognised body. The

Climber is an Education Startup that helps students discover and pursue their passions

through MyCaptain and large city wide youth fests, summits and bootcamps. It is an online

learning platform where students from different backgrounds come together and avail help

by taking the first step in their respective field of passion with the support and excellent

mentorship of young achievers, mentors and guides (Captains). My internship was in the

Sales & Marketing department. My role as an intern was to complete the initial targets of

getting maximum students from my personal reach for the courses so that maximum of my

fellow friends can be benefited and can avail the opportunity of following their own passion

or interest to succeed in fields like blogging, content writing, photography, digital marketing,

finance, coding and much more. Then, I also learnt about how to impart the knowledge I

possess about the product to the customer with the convincing and persuading skills so that

he/she agrees to buy the product. It was indeed an enriching experience. I broadened my

horizons in the field of Sales & Marketing. We also had a live discussion session where we

were trained about the importance of understanding customer behaviour and customer

expectations from a product."
