Forging A New Energy Future
Global energy demand will continue to increase, driven by rising population, urbanisation and growing affluence, particularly in Asia. In ensuring access to energy for all, the world population will have to increasingly rely on all forms of energy – from conventional oil and gas, to renewable energy sources. Oil and gas, however, will remain dominant, accounting for more than half of the global primary energy mix in decades to come.
Multiple challenges continue to beset the energy industry. Ensuring energy access that is affordable, reliable and sustainable is a challenge confronting every country. Amidst the rising need for energy, future supplies are becoming costlier, more difficult to access and located in areas far away from demand centres. The growing population in developing countries is being hampered from access to energy amidst rising protectionism and geopolitical instability. Without basic access to resources, clean and affordable energy is a pipe dream for many.
The global energy landscape is now going through structural changes. Climate change goals have triggered the transition towards greener, cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, and technological breakthroughs are needed to decarbonise the energy sector. To accelerate the transition, collaboration and partnership are key in opening up new channels to develop innovative solutions and find new approaches.
Forging a new energy future is a journey that starts with collaborative approach within and outside of the industry, and the agility to respond to the increasing needs would ensure that the oil and gas industry will remain competitive and relevant.

SESSION 1:
CEO STRATEGIC DIALOGUEPREPARING FOR A NEW ENERGY FUTURE
We have witnessed structural changes in the global energy landscape, as well as the ongoing energy transition driven by disruptive forces and megatrends. At the same time, technology breakthroughs and innovation are happening at a much faster pace and frequency beyond Industry 4.0. Are the current business models robust enough to position and capture new growth opportunities, including in new energy? What does it take for companies to step out and differentiate themselves from others? How would companies leverage on technology and shape future partnerships?
Further issues to be discussed include entrepreneurship, culture and mindset change, leadership, capability and
competency.
SESSION 2:
THE NEXT PHASE OF ENERGY TRANSITION - BEYOND THE ENERGY TRILEMMA
The energy landscape will continue to evolve and transform as technology drives new and innovative solutions. Beyond the existing agenda of sustainability, affordability and security, what would the future energy landscape look like? Countries at different stages of development need the flexibility to optimise resources and prioritise socio-economic needs. Scenarios shared during the discussion will provide the opportunity for players to broaden their horizon to futureproof long-term strategies.

SESSION 3:
DRIVING INNOVATION TOWARDS A NEW FUTURE
Innovation continues to disrupt the status quo, making conventional business models less relevant or obsolete. To position themselves in the mainstream of a new energy future, companies have to pursue innovation through culture and mindset transformations that will increase agility to anticipate and respond to external environment that is highly complex and challenging. Value creation for companies will have to be seen from different perspective – from adoption of digital applications and other innovative solutions to collaborating with tech start-ups, oil & gas
and those beyond the energy industry.
SESSION 4:
A NEW WORLD ORDER
A myriad of industry drivers and disruptive forces continue to alter the global landscape and change our perspective and world-view. It is no longer about a multi-polar world driven by a few major superpowers. Prevailing concern, ranging from populism to protectionism and reverse globalisation, have long been the subject of discussions, but more contentious issues are emerging. Today, the industry is grappling with new risks that include cyber threats and attacks that could destabilise and cripple global political and financial systems, as well as disrupt businesses and industries. Will the cyber threats lead to a global downturn or major energy supply disruption?

SESSION 5:
WORKFORCE OF THE FUTURE - RETOOLING AND BUILDING NEW COMPETENCIES
The transformed energy landscape requires organisations to develop and implement customised solutions
at a faster pace. Is the industry equipping itself with crucial talents, especially digitally-literate? Changing
models for work and different mindsets are key requirements to thrive in a world of circular economy
– where recovering and regenerating products and ideas are key to extracting maximum value. What
skillsets need to be developed today to prepare the energy industry’s workforce of tomorrow?
SESSION 6:
THE CONSUMER OF TOMORROW - REPOSITIONING PORTFOLIO AND REALIGNING STRATEGY
As consumers transition towards a sustainability-driven lifestyle, the energy industry needs to be at the
forefront in meeting rising demand for new generation products from sustainable sources and produced
in an environmentally-responsible manner. Changing demography and consumer preferences make it
imperative for players to assess their existing portfolio and strategies.

SESSION 7:
TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FUTURE
Oil and gas will remain dominant in the global energy mix in the foreseeable future. However, disruptive
forces and megatrends may alter the trajectory where the focus towards energy from sustainable
sources will become more prominent. As players expand and accelerate their investments in new energy,
policymakers and the financial sector are fast developing a conducive environment to facilitate growth
in this area.
What will be the next phase of transition beyond renewables?
SESSION 8:
CREATING DISRUPTION, MANAGING RISKS
Industry 4.0 is revolutionising the energy industry as automation, AI, blockchain and IoT change the way
players position themselves in production, manufacturing, supply chain, distribution, retail and marketing.
As the industry innovates, players are creating disruptions within the industry to carve out niche positions.
Managing these risks require the industry to come together, to build upon collaborative efforts in a way
that extracts the greatest value for both producers and consumers.
