Naast dat je op het kampterrein leuke activiteiten doet, ga

je ook op excursie buiten het terrein. Om zo wat meer van Nederland te zien. Jambotours organiseert leuke excursies naar verschillende steden en pretparken in de buurt.

De excursie die het dichtste bij is, is naar de stad Haarlem. De hoofdstad van

Noord-Holland met een mooi oud centrum. Je krijgt een rondleiding in de St. Bavo kerk en gaat daar de zolder op. Dat is niet iets wat iedereen zomaar te zien krijgt. Daarnaast heb je ook de tijd om rondom de Grote Markt de vele winkels te bezoeken. Het is een gezellige stad om heen te gaan. Zelfs Nederlandse scouts zijn onder de indruk: “Ik kom wel uit Haarlem, maar ik heb nog nooit de kerk van binnen gezien.”

Hands-on and explore in AmsterdamDe excursie naar Amsterdam is bij buitenlandse groepen heel erg populair. Je brengt een bezoekje aan de stad en kunt daar naar het Rokin of het Damrak. Ook ga je naar wetenschappelijke museum Nemo. Leuk voor nieuwsgierige scouts. In dit museum doe je veel doe- en ontdek activiteiten. De Engelse scouts die er zijn

geweest, vertelden: “Science at school is not fun, but this museum is really cool.” Dus het is echt de moeite waard.

Walibi was greatVorige week zijn alle subkampen naar Walibi geweest. Het is een super groot pretpark vol met spectaculaire achtbanen, spetterende water attracties en spannende shows. Het was voor iedereen leuk. De leiding van Banbury District uit Engeland vertelde ons: “Normally we do not visit

this type of attractions, but this was great!”

Beside doing fun activities in the camp, you can go on

excursions off site, to see some more of the . Netherlands. Jambotours organises excursions to various cities and to an amusement parks nearby.

The closest excursion is to the city of Haarlem, the capital of

North Holland, with a beautiful old city centre. Included is a tour of the St. Bavo church. Visitors can climb up the stairs of the tower to the attic and see things that visitors do not normally get to see. There is also time to explore the old town and look to all the nice shops. Haarlem is a lovely city to visit. Even the Dutch scouts are impressed. “I live in Haarlem, but I’ve never seen the inside of the church.”

At Walibi there are a lot of water activities. Brett, Harry, Emily and

Sara from the 6th Exeter St. Thomas group from England enjoy themselves.

On tour with Jambotours

Hands-on and explore in AmsterdamThe excursion to Amsterdam is very popular with foreign groups. Visitors to this popular city can go to the Rokin and Damrak. Jambotours also takes you to the Nemo science museum, which is fun for curious people. In this museum there is a lot of hands-on activities and visitors are free to explore. The English scouts told: “Science at school is not fun, but

this museum is really cool.” So it’s really worth it”.

Walibi was greatLast week all the sub camps went to Walibi. This is a very large amusement park full of spectacular rides, splashing water rides and exciting shows. It was fun for everyone. The leaders of Banbury District from England told us: “Normally we do not visit this type of attractions, but this was great!”

Aqua recordAlex Goodall of the 1st Brussels (British) Scouts did a very fast lap in Canoeing. He was 15 minutes faster than the others. It only took him 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete the round.

ReflectionDoor de regen wat later begonnen, maar desondanks toch nog een mooie bezinning op de zondagochtend. Alle scouts liepen de Arena in en werden verwelkomd door djembe’ers

die lekker aan het trommelen waren. Er werd gesproken over samenwerking. “Samenwerken is samen een doel achterna streven, samenwerken zonder problemen.” Veel vermoeide gezichten, maar toch volgde daarop instemmend geknik van de scouts.

De puzzelstukjes die bij de ingang werden uitgedeeld, werden gebruikt om samenwerking uit te beelden. Met het hele subkamp werden er teksten en woorden op de puzzelstukjes geschreven en werd er een bouwwerk gemaakt. Zo hadden de Egyptenaren en heuse 3D piramide gemaakt. Vriendschap is ook een belangrijk thema bij de reflection. Er zijn al veel vriendschappen gesloten tenslotte en samen hebben we het erg naar ons zin op het kamp. “De sfeer was geweldig, het bij elkaar zijn. Het was allemaal fantastisch.” zegt een Romein. “Elk subkamp maakte een geluid, de een klapte de ander stampte. Het leek op de film Happy Feet!”

Because of the rain the Reflection started a little later than planned on Sunday morning. Nevertheless, it was well received by the assembled scouts. As they walked

into the Arena they received a warm welcome from the djembe players who where drumming. The message throughout the Reflection was cooperation: “Cooperation is pursuing a goal, working together without problems.” There were lots of tired faces, but they nodded their heads in agreement .

The puzzle pieces that were handed out at the entrance were used to represent cooperation. With the whole sub camp they wrote words and texts on the puzzle pieces and joined them together to make a building out of them. The Egyptians made a 3D pyramid. There was a talk about friendship. Lots of friendships have been made already at the Jamborette and everybody is having a good time together. “The atmosphere was great, it’s just being together. It was all great”, says one of the Romans. “Every sub camp made a sound, one clapping their hands, an other one stamping their feet on the ground. It looked just like the movie Happy Feet”.

Visiting the worldDe open dag is een groot succes geweest. Vele honderden

mensen kwamen naar het kampterrein om eens te zien wat die scouts van over de hele wereld toch aan het doen zijn hier.

Veel van hen waren familie van deelnemers of medewerkers. Zo ook Bart. Zijn zoon zit bij team Aqua: “Ja, of iets met hout ofzo”, zegt Bart. “Ik had nooit gedacht dat het zo groot zou zijn”, zegt hij. “Ik verdwaal steeds.” Zijn zoon heeft hij dan ook nog niet gevonden.

Tasting all sortsDe dochter van Susan is deelnemer in het Chinese subkamp. “Ik heb echt al van alles geproefd”, vertelt ze lachend. “En toen kwam ik bij een groep met een soort kleine pannenkoekjes, dus vroeg ik er eentje. Het was best lekker en ik bedankte ze in mijn beste Engels. Bleek het gewoon een Nederlandse groep te zijn.” Ze schiet weer in de lach. “Ja, en dat verwacht je dan niet hè, met al die buitenlandse groepen.”

A visit from far awayLewis van de 1st Stirlingshire uit subkamp Egyptenaren heeft waarschijnlijk het bezoek

dat de grootste afstand heeft afgelegd. Zijn ouders zijn helemaal uit Schotland speciaal hier naartoe gekomen om hun zoon te bezoeken. ”Ze kwamen heus niet alleen voor mij hoor”, zegt Lewis. “Maar het is toch leuk dat ze er zijn.” De groep is al voor de derde keer op de Jamborette maar heeft nog nooit bezoek gehad. Het is dan ook 1.230 kilometer van huis. Lewis:”Gelukkig zijn ze zo slim geweest om met het vliegtuig te komen.”

The visitors day was a great success. Hundreds of people

came to see with their own eyes what those scouts from all over the world are doing here .

Most of the visitors who came are family of participants or staff members. That’s the case with Bart. His son is with team Aqua. “Yes, or something with wood I think”, says Bart. “I would never have guessed it would be this big”, He says. “I keep getting lost.” That’s probably why he hasn’t found his son yet.

Tasting all sortsSusan’s daughter is in the Chinese sub camp. “I’ve tasted all sorts of things”, she says laughing. “There was a group with small pancakes, so I asked for one. It tasted good, so I thanked them in my best English. Then I found out it was a Dutch group.” She starts

laughing again. “You don’t expect that, with all those foreign groups.”

A visit from far awayLewis from 1st Stirlingshire scouts on the Egyptian sub camp probably had the visitors who travelled the longest distance. His parents came from Scotland especially to the Netherlands to visit their son. “They didn’t come here just for me,” Lewis says. “But it’s nice they’re here anyway.” The group is at the Jamborette for the third time, but they have never had any visitors before because it is 1,230 kilometres away from home. Lewis says: “Luckily my parents were clever enough to come by plane.”

in een zijstraatje met snoep. Er komt bijna niemand bij ze langs. Dat is wel een beetje jammer, maar ook wel lekker rustig vinden ze. Op de vraag of ze nog ergens last van hebben gehad tijdens het kamp antwoordt Phil: “Ja, het was soms wel een klein beetje te warm” Als ik ze duidelijk maak dat ik doelde op de regen, zegt Josh: “Welke regen? Die paar druppeltjes?” Dat zijn nou echte scouts.

during vistors day with candy. Almost no one comes to visit them. It’s a bit of a shame, but also nice and quiet they say.

When I ask them if anything bothered them this camp Phil answers: “Yeah, it was a bit hot at times.” When I say I meant the rain Josh answers: “What rain? Those few drops.” That is the real scouting spirit!

HaggisCalum en Gavin van 2nd Renfrew Trinity delen Haggis uit tijdens de open dag. Dat is een traditioneel Schots gerecht waarbij een schapenmaag wordt gevuld met

stukjes hart, long en lever. Niet iedereen durft dat te proeven. De heren vertellen dat ze veel nieuwe vrienden hebben gemaakt tijdens het kamp, maar of de Haggis daarbij geholpen heeft?

Calum and Gavin from 2nd Renfrew Trinity scouts offer Haggis during visitors day. It’s a traditional Scottish recipe. It’s a sheep stomach filled with bits of heart,

lungs and liver. Not everyone dares to try it. The guys tell they made lots of new friend during camp, but were not sure if the Haggis contributed to that?

Balance and brandingTijdens de open dag heeft de Henlow Clifton Scout Group

veel moeite gedaan om in de smaak te vallen bij bezoekers. En dat lukt ze goed! Ze hebben veel verschillende activiteiten georganiseerd. Van Engelse

culinaire specialiteiten tot Engelse spelletjes. Het touwtrekken is in een nieuw jasje gestoken. Je staat op twee ronde paaltjes die op de grond liggen, waardoor je heel snel omvalt. Heel moeilijk maar toch erg leuk. Ook heel speciaal is het

branden. Ze hebben het logo van de groep - HC - gemaakt van metaal om in het vuur te kunnen houden en zo hun logo in leer of hout te kunnen branden. Zo hebben ze al hun riemen en zakmeshouders voorzien van hun groepslogo.

During our visitors day the Henlow Clifton Scout Group

made an effort to impress the visitors. And it worked out well! They organised a lot of activities. From English culinary specialties to English games. Their tug-of-war is totally re-thought. Standing on two round poles on the ground, tugging away and keeping your balance at the same time is not easy, that’s why you fall off quickly. Very difficult but still fun to do. Also special is the branding. They have their group logo - HC - made of metal to hold in the fire and then burn in wood or leather. They have applied the group logo on all their belts and pocketknife holders.

Bicylce juicerDe Sagga groep bij de Inca’s had een originele publiekstrekker tijdens

de open dag. Ze hadden een fiets omgebouwd tot sapcentrifuge. Bezoekers konden een bekertje fruit om toveren tot een heerlijk vruchtensapje. Daarvoor moesten ze wel even flink trappen. Een mooie manier om energie op te wekken!

The Sagga group at the Inca camp site was a big hit on visitors day.

They had converted a bicycle into a juicer. Visitors could make a cup of fruit into a lovely cup of juice. But they had to peddle real hard for that. A great way to generate energy!

drukte van jewelste. Je ziet veel scouts staan die hun groep aan het promoten zijn. De scouts van de 5th Letchworth groep doen ook mee. Bij een tafel aan het pad zijn ze mensen aan het overhalen om te komen. Niet voor eten, drinken of hebbendingetjes maar voor hun stad Letchworth, die ze aan het promoten zijn. Met mooie kalenders en kaarten zie je meteen hoe het er daar uit ziet.

Veel belangstellende mensen vragen allemaal: “Kan ik dit meenemen?” Nee, maar je mag wel een button pakken”, zegt Ruth van het promotieteam.

The pathways in the Roman sub camp is crowded. Many of the

scouts are promoting their groups to our visitors. The scouts of the 5th Letchworth group

have a table next to the path and are trying to persuade people to stop. Not for food, drinks or goodies but to promote the City of Letchworth. They have beautiful calendars and picture cards to show their visitors what the City is like. Many interested people all ask: “Can I take these?” “No, but you can have the buttons”, says Ruth of the promotion team.

Oops! Our tent leaks

Wat doe je als je tent niet waterdicht is? Dan span je er een

zeil over je tent heen. En wat doe je als het dan nog niet werkt? Dan span je nog een zeil. En als dat niet werkt? Nóg een zeil! Dit verklaart de bijzondere slaapgelegenheid van de A.E. Sant Narcis groep uit Spanje.

What should you do if your tent has got a leak? You should

cover the tent with a canvas. And if it is still leaking, you put over another canvas. And if that isn’t working, again another canvas! This explains the special view you see of the sleeping area of the A.E. Sant Narcis group from Spain.

Recycling cartons

Op een kamp waar alles om energie draait, is recycling

natuurlijk een belangrijk begrip. De 4th Harpenden Scouts die op het Inca terrein verblijven, hebben bedacht om hun Taksi-pakjes te gebruiken om daarmee hun poort te versieren. Ze hopen dat ze er nog veel meer krijgen. “Het zal nog gaver worden als iedereen meehelpt en zijn lege pakjes naar ons komt brengen”, stelt Rob van de 4th Harpenden.

recycling is very important. The 4th Harpenden Scouts who camp at the Inca site, imaged that they could use the empty juice cartons to build their entrance. De scouts hope that they will get a lot more. “It would be more expressive if everyone else joined in and gave us their empty cartons!”, Rob from the 4th Harpenden says.

HJ vs WJTegelijkertijd met de Haarlem Jamborette was ook de World Scout Jamboree in Zweden. Met

zo’n 40.000 scouts is dat kamp liefst 20 keer zo groot. Zo’n 40 deelnemers zijn de komende dagen te gast op de Haarlem Jamborette.De groep Maddy Dragons uit Wales: “We zijn gisterochtend rond half acht aangekomen vanuit Zweden met het vliegtuig.” Voor na de Jamboree waren de scouts eigenlijk op zoek naar een gastgezin en kwamen toen bij ons uit. Veel van het kampterrein en de omgeving hebben ze niet gezien, de meeste scouts hebben wat bijgeslapen. Een van de leiding vertelt: “Er zit in wezen niet veel verschil tussen de Haarlem Jamborette en de World Jamboree, behalve de grootte dan. Het

terrein met de tenten en bouwwerken zijn vergelijkbaar en het is net zo gezellig.”

The World Scout Jamboree in Sweden has been taking place at the same time as the Haarlem

Jamborette. The Jamboree was 20 times bigger than our own Jamborette. There were about 40,000 Scouts altogether. About 40 of them have come to join us for the next few days. The Muddy Dragons scout group from Wales arrived yesterday morning around 07.30 am from Sweden by

plane.” They were looking for home hospitality with a family for a few days after the Jamboree. Instead they find themselves with us enjoying the hospitality of the Jamborette. They have not seen much of the camp site and its surroundings yet. Most scouts were getting some extra sleep. One of the leaders says: “Apart from the size there is not a lot of difference between the Haarlem Jamborette and the World Jamboree. The terrain with all the tents and structures look the same and the atmosphere is great here too.”
