Dear Chr i s t i an Fr i ends :Gree tings in the name of ou r wonderful Lord Jesus Christ . I t is with a greatdeal of excitement that we share with you a unique opportunity. An Urgent NeedThe ZIDEN NUTT family has not been on furlough for five years and their sevenyear old daughter, Lynda, needs special educa tion as soon as possible. However, abandoning the work that is in a sta ge o f u npa ra lle le d momentum wouldperhaps slow down and se t back the work. In a le t ter to us, Ziden Nutt says:

"The shop needs someone with experience who can set i t up smoothly.AFTER MUCH PRAYER AND CONSIDERATION BY THE MISSIONARIES HERE, wefeel YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WOULD BE THE IDEAL ONES to come during ourfurlough and give the shop what i t needs. Many o ther oppor tun it ie sneed answered THERE SEEMS TO BE NO WAY FOR US TO COMETO THE U.S.A. UNLESS SOMEONE~COMES. Would you please g ive p raye rful consideration to this? May God guide you in a ll thoughts andconsideration of this urgent matter."

A Committment MadeThe members of our family have considered this opportunity and challenge withserious prayer and have decided i t is God's will that we arrive on the fieldbefore the Nutt family leaves. Our going will enable seven more missionariesto share our Chris t in the school, the homes and the GOOD NEWS BOOKSHOP inSinoia , Rhodesia. After ten ye ar s experience in the located ministry and five years as managerof the bookstore a t Ozark Bible College, I feel that i t is God's will that Iaccept this challenge. My wife and I visited the field last summer and witnessed first-hand the work tha t Is being done. We are thr i l led with thepossibil i t ies , and we would be happy to share a slide program with you and explain the work that we will be doing.A Unique Minis t ryThe GOOD NEWS BOOKSHOP, established and managed by the Ziden Nutt family, islocated in the heart of town and is the hub of inter-personal contact. DaleMarshall, co-laborer with Ziden , says that the bookstore has been a "decidingfactor" in th e church getting to the people and in the increase in worshipand Sunday school attendance.

    D e a r Christian Friends:

Greet ings in th e Name o f Jesus from S ino i a , Rhodes ia . We a rr iv e d s af el y onJune 23 , r i gh t on schedule . The Nut t s and Ammermans were t h e r e to meet usalong with Misses Ola Marion, Judy Picket t (school teacher and nurse fromChidamoyo Mission) and Janie Gee of Sp ring field, Mo. (summer intern from L.C.C.)We had to f i l e papers a s tempor ar y immigrants fo r mission work. This took alittle whi le , and th e kids were rea l ly exci ted as the i r cousins peeked a roundth e corn er in to the "baggage room. After clear ing through t he r ed -t ap e, we weretaken to the Ammerman's home fo r a v i s i t , a short worship service, and our f i r s thome-cooked meal s ince l eaving Jopl in . We were a l l very t i r ed , and a f t e r thenoon meal, we vis i ted a while and I (Jim) came on out to Sinoia with th e Nutts,as MarJe and th e chi ldren- remained in Sal i sbury to v i s i t fo r a few days with th eAmmermans .

Sunday evening I experienced ray f i r s t worship service with the Hil ls ide Chapel.Missionary I van Mar ti n had a good message, but par t way through the sermon, Iwent to s leep and dropped my New Testament in the f loor . That woke me up goodand I didn ' t have any more t rouble with fatigue. I t surely was good to l ie downin a nice bed once again on Sunday night .Sinoia i s probably much l a rger than I had described it to most o f you. I wasamazed tha t i t had "grown" so much in Just one year. Really, we jus t didn' t seemuch o f it i n ou r few h ou rs h er e last summer. S i n o i a s e r v e s as t h e l o c a t i o n fo rthe only high school in the whole northern area. I don' t know jus t how majiysquare miles th i s would be, bu t it i s qui te a l a rge area .After sleeping in on Monday morning , Z iden s tar ted making the rounds with me,showing me where th e bank, pos t of f i ce , s to r e s , e t c . were a l l l oca ted . The GoodNews Centre, (bookstore) and Studios will be taking a good part of my time butI s t i l l will have some time for work with th e H ill si de Chapel (European congregation) and for some work with the African people. This f i r s t week in Sinoia included the mid-week service on Wednesday night,(very similar to one of ours) African ministers meeting on Friday afternoon, and then I was in charge o f the evening serv ice ton igh t . There wi l l be an AfricanYouth Meeting in Karoo on Friday n ig ht , Ju ly We hope to at tend th i s and l ea rnsomething o f the youth work among th e A f ri ca n p eo p le .

We will probably get the children in school by July 10. They will a ll have to wearuniforms. The boys will wear short pants, t ies , hats, and knee sox. The girls willhave to wear dresses, sox, (not hose) hats, and have their hair Just so . None ofthem are looking forward to the uniforms but I think they will not mind i t so mucha f t e r they have a few weeks behind them. Please continue to pray for us that we may do our work well, that the children maymake a good adjustment, and tha t we may a l l be fa i thful witnesses for the Lord.

How good it i s to greet you again in the name of Jesus! We thank God for yo\irprayers and fo r your f inanc ia l suppor t . Without e i t he r we could no t "be here .I could wri te several pages of things we would l ike to t e l l you, but I ' l l tryto summarize and relate the most important events only. The Nut t f amily l e f tSinoia on Saturday, June 29. Then for the f i rs t time we really fe l t the fullresponsibil i ty for ou r family and for the work here. How heavy i t seemed a l lat once! Jul ie celebra ted her lii-th birthday here on July 1. She receivedseveral cards and l e t te rs from the U. S., s t i l l i t was not the same as pastb i r thdays .On Sunday, July 7> I went with Ivan Martin to the European (white) service atMangula. (Ziden had been visiting this church once a month.) This was a holi--day weekend and the number was very small. Then we hurriedly went to Karoi toattend the remainder of the African Youth Meeting mentioned in our l a s t l e t te r .I was enjoying the programme until th e preacher in charge sent me a note askingme to preach in the afternoon on the Lord's Supper. I didn' t reply, but soonhe announced that Ero. Taylor would be bringing a message jus t after- lunch. I'enjoyed" some sadza and chicken, a ll the while trying to remember some of theoutlines I have used in the past. I made i t thru the short sermon via t rans la tor ,and s a t down very much r e l i eved . I had been f orwa rn ed t ha t t h i s i s a commono cc urr en ce , b u t I don ' t th ink I'll ever ge t used to it.Marje and the ch i ld ren came out to Karoi t ha t af ternoon and before dark we werewell on ou r way to the Chidamoyo Mission. We returned Monday evening afterspending a relaxing day at the mission and renewing acquaintances with the Fra-sures and Harrisons. This was Rhodes Day, a national hol iday her e. The nextday, Founders Day is also a holiday, and that afternoon the children begged togo to the local park where the Sinoia Caves are located. For winter t ime, i twas rather nice.On Sunday, July li+, the whole family enjoyed a fellowship dinner with the Churchhere. Hillside Chapel. Several families shared together and there were severalnew dishes to try. The children confined their choices mostly to "Mom's cookin'".After learning somewhat of the needs, I volunteered to take on the responsibilityof the Mangula church (European). The African church there is strong, but theEuropean church real ly needs help.

Before I c lose I must r e l a t e another s id e o f l i f e in Rhodesia. I don ' t want t oalarm anyone, but facts are facts. One of the African evangelists whom I metsoon after my arrival , was killed by terrorists on July 8, even as the familywas having evening devotions. He was in a dangerous area and knew this couldhappen. But what a shock to a l l of us, and especially to his family. Pleasep ray with us that his family, t he S it ho le s, may remain f ai th fu l to God in th istrying time. May God bless each one of you as you continue to serve our Lord.

    THE TAYLOR FAMILY

Jim and MarjeOean i eTimothyOulieJon iJon

August 30, 197^Greet ings from. MarJe:"Madam, the bed seed is finished." These were the words of Smart, our African gardener. I asked Jim i f he thought he meant to t e l l me that he was out of seed forthe garden or i f the garden beds were finished. In three days, he came to me againand repeated the same thing. This time Tim was standing near by and told me thathe was saying the bird seed was finished. We promptly bought some bird seed, butonly after a couple of birds had died, apparently from lack of "bed seed".The above is an i l lus t ra t ion of one of the adjustments we are try ing to makethatof understanding the English that is spoken by the Europeans and the Africans. Weknew the accents would be very different but I didn ' t real ize they would expressthemselves so differently. So many things are called by different names and i tof ten t akes a whi le to f igure ou t what i s be ing re fe r red to .I have been helping Jim in the bookstore and even though the work is not hard, youare worn out by the end of the day from the strain of trying to imderstand what i sbeing said and what they mean. For instance, one lady asked for plastic sleeves, and another wanted stamp hinges and on and on it goes. At church, a man was car rying my food basket out to the car and he asked i f I wanted i t in the seat or theboot . I have s in c e l ea rn e d t ha t our car has a boot and a bonnet and you take it tothe panel beaters to have dents taken out!The children must cope with the same type of thing at school but they a re lea rn ingquickly and making the adjus tments very well. They a l l have to use fountain pensto do a l l of t he i r schoolwork and t h i s i s messy. The s ty le of wri t ing i s di f fe ren tbut since we will just be here one year, I don't think th e t eachers a re going to betoo s t r i c t with them. Their reports a t the end of one month of school were veryencouraging. The teachers commented that they were off to a good s tar t . We arevery thankful for the way they are coming along and feel i t is due to many prayersoffered by you folk and th e fo lk here in Sinoia .Driving on the wrong side of the road is getting to be a l i t t le easier but I s t i l lhave to think about where to go when making tu rn s, etc . So far , I have only dentedone fender of the Nut t ' s car when I ran in to t h e i r gatepost !I am gradually getting to the place where I don't dread shopping so much. You buyyour meat a t the butchery and every cut is called by something different than whatwe cal l i t in the states. Most, business people, Imow immediately that we are fromAmerica when th ey h ear us ta lk and are pat ient with us. So, you see that manythings are new and different to .us but we are., so t hank fu l fo r the rich experiencet ha t i s ours as we le a rn to l i ve with God's people in another l and .

I t ' s interest ing to meet peopleyou have read about for years , person to person. We hope to v i s i t with as manyof the fellow-workers as we can and to see t he i r places o f la bo r. This wil lhave to be done during the public holidays or school hol idays .Another highlight in our fellowship here, was a dinner meeting a t Karoi (on afarm, really) with a great number of the Sinoia people making the t r ip. Dear Chr i s t i a n Fr i ends ,Jus t about th e t ime the October newsle t ter was due to be wri t t en , our rout ine wasdrastically changed. Please forgive us for being so late. On Wednesday, Oct. 30af ter we were a l l in bed, we received a phone cal l from Marje's dad. He calledto report that Gay Ammerman, ou r 13 year old niece, was near death with cancer. The Dr. gave her only a few days to live. After much praying and heart-searchingconcerning the cost , MarJe l e f t Rhodesia on November 1 to be with the Ammermans.(Mrs. Ammerman is Marje's sis te r ) I t was dif f icul t for her to leav e her familyhere, expec ia ll y for such a t r ip . We have been blessed as we have learned toappreciate her more for her planning and preparing meals, helping with homework, wash ing c l o t h e s , etc., e t c .Let me tel l you some of the things that have been happening here. On October l8,we ma,de a t r ip to the famous Mashoko Mission. I t was a warm t r ip , but Just aswe t rave l led the l a s t few miles , we were cooled by a nice shower. I t rained a l lthe next day, cancelling the chi ldren 's plans for outdoor act iv i t ies , but weenjoyed very much the opportunity to vis i t with our hosts, the Don Stol l familyof Rolla, Mo. We were very much impressed by the size of the mission. The chi ldren were most impressed by the new swimming pool. On our return, we made as h o r t visit t o th e famous Zimbabwe Ruins .On November 23 , we made our t r ip to Mangula, and were pleased to meet anotherfamily i nt er es ted i n the Lord's work. Please continue to pray for the work there.Wednesday morning, November 6, we had our montlily "prayer and share" session withthe other Sinoia miss ionar ies , Mr. & Mrs. Dale Marshall and Mr. & Mrs. IvanMartin. I t seemed strange without MarJe, but i t is always a time of real sp i r it u a l r e f r e sh i ng .We woTold l ike to take th i s opportunity to extend our bes t wishes to each one ofyou during the Christmas season. Let us remember above a l l else the Saviour whogave His l i fe for us that we might have that wonderful hope of l iving eterni tywith Him. May each of us give ourselves completely in service to Him is ourprayer.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,J im, MarJe, and f ami lyNote": MarJe r e tu rned to Sinoia onNov. 26 . Gay Ammerman i s

    still c l ing ing to life a t.t h i s p r i n t i ng . Please prayfor the Ammermans .
