Beste vrijwilliger,

het zomerseizoen 2013 is weer begonnen! Alle projecten die SIW dit jaar aanbiedt staan

weer op de website en de aanmeldingen stromen binnen! We hebben dit jaar wederom een

ruim aanbod: meer dan 2.000 projecten in 77 bestemmingen!

Wat zijn nu de mogelijkheden om in een groep met een hogere gemiddelde leeftijd te

zitten?

De meeste projecten die SIW aanbiedt zijn voor vrijwilligers vanaf 18 jaar. Er is meestal geen

bovengrens wat leeftijd betreft en in principe kan dus iedereen die ouder dan 18 jaar is

deelnemen. Het is echter wel zo dat sommige organisaties (vaak Europese zoals in Spanje,

Duitsland of Frankrijk) te maken hebben met subsidies van de overheid tot een bepaalde

leeftijdsgrens en daarom een bovengrens hebben (vaak 26 of 30 jaar). Dit kun je in de

projectinformatie zien.

Over het algemeen merken we ook dat het grootste gedeelte van de deelnemers aan de

projecten tussen de 18 en de 30 jaar is, waarbij de gemiddelde leeftijd omhoog gaat bij

bestemmingen die verder weg liggen. Zo ligt op onze projecten in Azië, Latijns-Amerika en

Afrika de gemiddelde leeftijd vaak iets hoger (tussen de 25 en 35 jaar). Daarnaast ligt de

gemiddelde leeftijd buiten het hoogseizoen (de zomervakantie) ook vaak wat hoger.

Het is dus aan jou om in te schatten of jij het leuk vindt om deel te nemen aan een project

met mensen die waarschijnlijk (veel) jonger zijn dan jij en of je de vaak primitieve

omstandigheden en (soms) zware werkzaamheden ziet zitten. Probeer bij het zoeken naar

een project te letten op de beschrijving van de accommodatie en de aard van het project en

zoek iets uit waarvan je denkt dat je het leuk zult vinden en (lichamelijk) aankunt. Wat ons

betreft ben je van harte welkom!

Er zijn dit jaar een twee mixed age projecten, één in Turkije en één in Italië. Het is een gering

aanbod, maar wel een heel leuk aanbod. Daarnaast hebben we vele projecten die voor

vrijwilligers vanaf 20 of 21 jaar zijn, waardoor de nadruk niet op jongeren tussen de 18 en 20

zal liggen. Deze projecten zijn o.a. in Amerika, België, Engeland, Frankrijk, Italië, IJsland,

Rusland, Servië, Slowakije en Turkije. Meer informatie over deze projecten kunt u opvragen

via info@siw.nl. De leeftijdsgrenzen staan ook altijd vermeld bij de projecten op onze

website. Mocht u toch een specifieke voorkeur hebben voor een ander land kunt u altijd

even navragen welk project misschien het beste bij u zou passen en of er eventueel al wat

bekend is over de leeftijden van de overige vrijwilligers op een bepaald project in dit land.

Hoe schrijf je je in voor een project en wat zijn de kosten?

Je schrijft je in voor een project d.m.v. een inschrijfformulier op onze website. Je betaalt

€249,- inschrijfgeld. Verder betaal je de organisatie ter plaatse tussen de 0 en 300 euro voor

onder andere je eten, onderdak en de lokale organisatie van het project. De reis,

(reis)verzekeringen, inentingen en visa regel en betaal je zelf. Alle bovengenoemde kosten

zijn onder voorbehoud.

Voor de projecten geldt: er is een beperkt aantal plaatsen beschikbaar! Dus hoe eerder we

voor je kunnen gaan bemiddelen, hoe groter de kans is dat je in het project van je eerste

keuze kunt worden geplaatst. Zodra inschrijfgeld en inschrijfformulier binnen zijn starten we

de bemiddeling.

General

All the activities of the volunteers will be organized by WWF Provincia di Crotone . The main

pourposes of this association are environment and legal control. This camp is important

from another point of view since the volunteers will sleep in a hostel (formerly it was a

market confiscated to local mafia ). The WWF turned an old building closed since 1997 in to

an hostel called C.E.L.A. without any economic help. The province of Crotone is the poorest

of Italy and unfortunately it is economically controlled by mafia , consequently we decided

to work together with other associations in order to create a mafia-free economy and to

improve the economic level of the community. WWF will host international volunteers to

provide an intercultural experience and to support the activities in favor of the environment

and to improve the hostel premises.

Work

At Isola Caporizzuto: Installation and maintenance of stances. Works of maintenance and

restoration of dry stone walls and containment; Gardening (pruning, cleaning flower beds,

removal of stones and plant pest, earth moving, etc.); At CELA(hostel): Painting , gardening,

The volunteers, helped by the members of WWF, will build a pick-nick area with tables and

benches .Other small manual works could be required with update to the applicants.

Accommodation

The CELA is a hostel made up of three rooms with 4 bank beds and a bath room in each

room. It is located in San Leonardo di Cutro between the two the tourist residences of

Serenè and Porto Kaleo. It is only two hundreds metres far from the sea and there are two

large gardens around the hostel.Food :The volunteers together with a member of wwf will

organize the meals . Any personal menù will be discussed with the members of the

association.

Location

The province of Crotone is located on the Ionian coast of Calabria in the south of Italy . This

small territory unifies the largest European Reserve Marine that of Caporizzuto and the

National Park of Sila mountain. The origins of Crotone dated back to the VII century B.C.

when the Greeks started colonizing the south of Italy ( Magna Grecia) . Crotone became a

cultural centre thank to Pitagora who built the Pitagoric School . In Middle age The Aragonise

built along the coast a series of towers and Fortress in order to protect the territory from the

pirates invasions.

General

This workcamp is a special one for people over 35 years old. Afacan Youth House

www.afacan.de is a place where GENCTUR runs voluntary workcamps for disadvantaged

youth and children, disabled people, teenagers and kids. In order to supply annual olive and

olive oil stocks, the center will host volunteers to pick up and process olives from a municipal

field.

Work

Volunteers will collect olives from the trees, separate according to quality, pack, make

stripes on olives, etc. There is a chance to see olive oil making process in a factory. As the

youth center will be shut after this camp the volunteers will be asked to help to carry goods

and some cleaning work as well as part of their daily work.

Accommodation

In the youth center, in double rooms with toilet and shower. F: Will be supplied at the

center.

Location

Yenisakran is by the Aegean Sea, in west of Turkey. The next city is Izmir.

Meeting point

Afacan Youth House - Izmir. Volunteers should arrange their arrivals to Izmir Airport. Further
