JONGEREN PROJECTEN 2012

description

14 of vanaf 16 jaar.

“Alternative Language Programs Satellite” within its annual activities on multicultural issues. The

project’s aim is to introduce the diversity of world cultures to the youth and provide them with good

practices in intercultural communication by means of alternative English language practice which

includes meetings, visits, direct contact to young people from abroad. The project gets 14 to 17 years

old teens familiar with national traditions of the countries from all over the world, encourages them to

develop their global thinking and individual initiative, tolerance and resistance to xenophobia and

ethnic hatred. At the same time camp gives foreign participants a great chance to meet youngsters of

Estonia and experience local life staying in the host families. The common theme for all Down-Town

camps 2012 is LINKS - What are the links between us and the world, us and our dearest ones,

between the generations, between humans and the Nature? What do we know about the Universe?

Do we make any changes in it?

Program

The shift is called KLONDIKE, and the key idea is PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT to the highest stage.

Camp program includes sightseeing in Estonian capital, visits to museums, meetings with

organizations, social and sport games, performances in the open air, actions for peace and nature

protection, discussions at the round table, team projects, presentations of the countries camp which

participants and volunteers represent, etc. Each day of the camp will have a country presentation, a

subject to learn or discuss and a related activity. Teenagers will stay in the camp activities zone from

10.00 to 17.00. There will be one day off in the camp and at least one day of travel outside Tallinn.

The day off is spent in the host family. Camp activities will take place in a learning centre situated in

the centre of the city. To activate teenagers and run the program there will be 8 international

volunteers and members of a local school staff.

Accommodation

In the apartments of the host families in Tallinn and suburbs. Travel cards will be provided, pick up will

be provided upon request. Participants will stay in a separate or shared room. You do NOT need a

sleeping bag. Participants will have breakfasts and dinners in their host families, lunches – all together

in the city.

conflicts without violence, to respect human rights, to promote solidarity between human beings at

all levels, to respect the environment, to be open and honest, to be active and willing to improve

Work

First the participants will prepare a street theatre with clear environmental message, adding their own

creative performances (dance, music, joggling, singing,...). They will be sharing ideas and creating a

really spectacular extravaganza in each village they visit along the way. The message the participants

will be spreading will be one of environmentalism and creativity. After which, we shall head off on our

caravan with our donkeys! We will stop at each village and perform our shows and workshops which

we have prepared. The local people can then share their thoughts of environmentalism, donkeys and

the workshops we are doing. We hope we will stay in each village we perform in, with tents, and meet

lots of interesting people along the way, although the final agenda will not be known until few days

before the camp starts, as we depend on local Municipalities to support the performance or not. The

Work camp also takes place during the local ‘fiesta’ or village party, so the opportunity to socialise with

local people will be available.
