The Trans-Siberian and Trans-Mongolian Railways….two of the world’s truly classic train journeys! Travel onboard these celebratedroutes for a trip full of adventure and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Admire the constantly changing scenery and travel to intriguingdestinations that you thought you would never be able to visit - Vladivostok, Beijing, Ulaan Baatar, Irkutsk, Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The “building blocks” of YOUR own tailor made journey on these incredible railways are laid out in the following pages. Select the citiesthat you wish to visit, how long you wish to stay, what you want to see and which train service you wish to travel on. Once you haveyour itinerary mapped out, call us and we can book it for you, all the while providing suggestions and tips that will enhance yourholiday and help make it truly memorable.

To give you some ideas to start you off, on pages 17 and 18 we have created two suggested, yet flexible tours which will provide notonly pre-booked trains, hotels, day excursions and transfers but also maximise your free time so you can explore at your own pace.

THE TRAINSCabinsThere is no one Trans-Mongolian or Trans-Siberian train but dozens of differentservices available.

Two types of cabin are available on most services:

1st class: cabin generally with 2 lower berths only.2nd class: cabin with 4 berths (2 lower and 2 upper). The upper berths fold up duringthe day.

There is no segregation of males and females and sole use of a cabin can be obtainedby purchasing all berths within a cabin. All lockable cabins are clean and comfortablewith ample storage space, reading lights and window blinds. Bed linen is included inthe cost of your berth.

CarriagesEach carriage has a shared toilet and wash basin with hot water (no showers).Carriages are heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer, and windows cangenerally be opened. A train attendant is on hand to keep the carriage and toiletsclean and to look after your safety and welfare. A samovar (hot water boiler) formaking tea and coffee is available.

Dining FacilitiesMost trains will have a restaurant car where inexpensive meals and drinks can bepurchased. The restaurant car is the focal point of the train - a great place to meetyour fellow travellers and socialise with the locals.

Life OnboardThe trains used for these journeys are local services which provide a uniqueopportunity to experience the ‘real’ life and cultures of each country. If you areprepared with a spirit of adventure and a relaxed attitude, these tailor-made railjourneys will be a rewarding and memorable experience.

SchedulesTrain services operate to set schedules, and due to the great distances travelled, theremay not be departures every day. Other train services may be available for the routeyou require, but these may take longer to reach your destination. All rail timetables aresubject to change, so a degree of flexibility is required when planning your journey.

Please note: Border crossings between China and Mongolia or Mongolia andRussia may take up to 6 hours.
