    ;E0 bein operated by M!s @@@;0. Bararan ;E0 is a run7of7the7river development envisain

    utiliation of surplus ater available in "anjoin nala. /he surplus dischare available in the nala is

    proposed to be utilied to develop full potential "anjoin "tream.

    n the basis of the dischare measurement data available2 it is seen that it is possible to exploit dischare

    and natural head to enerate *=++ @< of poer at economical cost. /he increase in installed capacity from

    ) M< to *.= M< can be achieved by utiliin hiher dischare available in the nala.

    /he purpose of the project activity is to enerate electricity by usin the reneable hydraulic resources to

    meet the ever7increasin demand for enery in the northern reion. /he development of the project activity

    ould reduce the Green ;ouse Gas 8G;G9 emissions produced by the northern reional rid eneration

    mix of (ndia2 hich is mainly dominated by fossil fuel based poer plants %.

    Government of (ndia has stipulated the folloin indicators for sustainable development in the interim

    approval uidelines'for CDM projects.

    /he main purpose of the project activity is to enerate electrical enery throuh sustainable means ithout

    causin neative impact on the environment and to contribute to the climate chane mitiation efforts.

    Apart from the eneration of electrical poer2 the project also contributes to the folloin&

    /he area around the project site is larely covered ith overburden in the riverbed and adjoinin terraces.verburden consists of deep fill of ravine sediments hereas hill slopes are covered ith slope ash

    material. /he riverine terraces are mostly used as aricultural land. 4oc# outcrops are scanty. ;oever2

    the hill slopes around the proposed project are stable and the area is conductive for constructin a small

    hydropoer scheme on eoloical considerations.

    Also there ould be no direct off7site emissions after implementation of the project activity since it doesnOt

    involve any transportation of fuel.

    /he indirect on7site G;G source is the consumption of enery and the emission of G;Gs involved in theconstruction of project activity.

    Considerin the life of the project activity and the emissions to be avoided in the life span of )+ years2

    emission from above7mentioned source is too small and hence nelected.

    /he lare and medium scale poer projects huely dominate the (ndian poer sector and the same is true

    for the :orthern Grid. /he private investors2 due to apparent advantaes of assured return on investment2

    economies of scale and easy availability of finances are attracted toards the lare and medium fossil fuel

    based projects and hence hydropoer is huely inored. /he trend is evident from a host of planned

    projects that comprises mostly lare7scale fossil fuel based poer eneration projects.
