The Rise of Oscar Wilde (1854 – 1895) • Born in Dublin (Ireland) in 1854.• He went to college in Ireland.• In 1882, his first book of poetry was

published.• In 1890 he wrote his only novel, ‘The Picture

of Dorian Gray.’• Oscar wrote his first play in 1883. In 1895 he

wrote ‘The Importance of Being Earnest.’

The Fall of Oscar Wilde (1895 – 1900) • In 1895, Oscar Wilde went to prison because of

his relationship with another man.• In 1897 he came out of prison. He was there

for two years. • Oscar Wilde’s time in prison was a difficult time for him. When he came out of prison, Oscar had changed and in 1900 he died a poor and broken man.
