Contradictory informationcirculates about the site of these transmitters,but it appears that at some point the own USforces transmitters at Leighton Barracks werereplaced by the Frankenwarte site of T-Systems Media&Broadcast where in late 2003some obscure tests of 1386 (ex. Not that anybody would care forthe 873 transmitter, but the FM side would be agood field for attempts to strike a deal like afrequency swap with Deutschlandradio(Großer Feldberg 98.7 ./. This really large base, about 40km northwest of Kaiserslautern, got an ownover-the-air AFN service only in January 2006.At this time AFN Hessen went on air via a newtransmitter on 106.1 because the Baumholdergarrison belonged to the 104th Area SupportGroup at Hanau.
