CDC conducted the first successful full-day Business
Continuity drill on a regular working day i.e. Wednesday,
June 16, 2010. This was the first instance in the history of
CDC's operations that a full-fledged drill was performed in
the middle of the week when the operational load was at the
maximum. The drill was planned to assess the ability of the
company to resume all critical operations from disaster
recovery / alternate sites in minimum possible time without
compromising on quality of services in the event of a disaster.
The exercise turned out to be a total success as all core
objectives regarding recommencement of operations and
continuity of services including customer services were met
as per the drill plan.
Due to an efficiently implemented BCP plan, CDC is now
completely and effectively disaster tolerant. The company is
confident that in case of an unforeseen disaster, not only all
customer information and critical software systems will remain
safe but all services and important functions will also resume
operations in the shortest possible time.
Business Continuity Planning is defined as advanced planning
and arrangements to ensure continuity of critical functions of
an organization in case of a disaster. As a reliable and responsible
institution of national stature, CDC is one of the very few
organizations in Pakistan that have implemented a fully functional
Business Continuity Program (BCP). Supported by backup sites
and disaster recovery capabilities, the BCP ensures minimum
disruption and continuity of services in case of any disaster.
Roundup of Developments in
Investor Account Services
Being a customer-centric organization, CDC has always been
proactive not only towards providing quality services to its
IAS Account Holders but also keeping them updated about
the various initiatives taken by CDC for customers' benefit
and convenience. Following are some of the important
developments/guidelines with respect to IAS:
eStatements
CDC has initiated various channels for its valuable clients to
keep them updated about their account information. These
channels include previously introduced CDC access IVR, Web
and SMS alert services. CDC access IVR and Web are provided
free of cost to the Investor Account Holders whereas SMS alerts
are charged @ Rs. 25 per month.
Inline with our commitment to customer convenience, another
free-of-cost, value-added facility has been introduced namely
eStatements which enables CDC to send Account Balance
Statements through email on a monthly basis to those Investor
Account Holders who have provided their email addresses to
CDC. IAS clients can avail the highly convenient service by
providing their email address either through CDC access
Registration Form or by providing a written request to CDC.
IAS Centralized Operations in Karachi:
CDC is now offering complete Investor Account Services,
including Account Opening and Deposit of Securities from
its purpose-built, state-of-the-art, conveniently located head
office at CDC House, 99 B, Block 'B', S.M.C.H.S., Shahra-
e-Faisal, Karachi. This initiative has enabled CDC to provide
complete portfolio of services from one location. Clients may
therefore approach CDC House on main Shara-e-Faisal to
enjoy the facility of availing all services from one location.
CDC sponsors Leadership andManagement ConferenceCDC sponsored the Leadership and Management Conference
organized by the Pakistan Society of Human Resource
Management (PSHRM) at a local hotel. Professionals from
all walks of life attended and appreciated the valuable insight
shared by the panel of speakers. Prominent speakers included,
Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Dean & Director - IBA, Larry Hochman,
a European business speaker and David Taylor, a business
management and motivational author.
A Comprehensive Test of Operational Capabilities
CDC's 4th Business Continuity Drill held on a Weekday
Availing Convenience of Direct
Credit of Dividend through Bank
Mandate Functionality
Central Depository System (CDS) not only provides
convenience to its clients through custody and movement of
electronic book-entry securities but also offers various other
features which makes it extremely easy for clients to manage
their securities portfolio. One such feature is called Bank
Mandate.
Through Bank Mandate functionality, account holders (both
IAS as well as Sub-Account) can have their dividends directly
credited in their bank accounts by providing their bank account
details at the time of account opening or subsequently through
a written request.
The importance of this highly convenient option is immense
as physical mode of receipt of dividends entails the risks of
wrong delivery, misplacement and/or loss of dividend warrant
causing inconvenience to the account holders. Bank Mandate
functionality provides a seamless option of receiving the
dividends directly in ones bank account thereby saving the
time and hassle involved in deposit and clearance of the
dividend warrant. We strongly recommend account holders
to use this facility to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
CDC's Chief Internal Auditor speaks
at Seminar on Internal Audit's Role
in Modern Corporate Governance
& Business Sustainability
Mr. Fazal Hussain Gaffoor, Chief Internal Auditor of CDC,
participated as speaker in the seminar on Internal Audit's Role
in Modern Corporate Governance and Business Sustainability.
The event was organized by The Southern Regional Committee
of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Pakistan on
May 11, 2010.
Mr. Gaffoor, in the light of scandals such as Enron and World
Com, apprised the audience regarding the evolving role of
internal audit function in the modern day organization. He
was of the view that Internal Audit, apart from its statutory
audit role, is also responsible for evaluating and improving
the risk management and governance processes within an
organization. He also apprised the audience regarding various
components of corporate governance and the role internal
audit can play to ensure its effectiveness.
Mr. Gaffoor also emphasized that the concept of business
sustainability is gaining importance and now only those
organizations will be able to ensure long term sustainability
which care for the rights of all stakeholders and not just the
shareholders. He also highlighted the importance of
environmental issues and how ignorance of the same can
affect sustainability of operations.

for providing technology consultancy and implementation
services as well as training to a variety of esteemed institutes

How can I deposit money directly in CDC's

CDC's Bank Account details for deposit of required amount
are as follows:
Bank Name: Habib Metropolitan Bank Ltd.
Account Number: 20311-714-103538
Account Title: Central Depository Company of
Pakistan Limited

the e-statements on a monthly basis after the said updation.
Synchronization of UIN in CDS and NCCPL
Database
CDC is in the process of developing a mechanism for
movement of book-entry securities which would automate
the securities settlement thereby eliminating the use of the
Main Account. Under the proposed mechanism, in which
UIN would play a central role, book-entry securities will be
moved directly between Sub/House Accounts.
Since after the implementation of the said mechanism all Free
Delivery and Balance Order movements would be based on
UIN, it would be essential to have correct entry of UIN in
both CDS as well as NCCPL Database. After the
implementation of this mechanism, trading on stock exchanges
would not be possible until UIN available in both the above
mentioned systems is synchronized.
Therefore, in order to avoid any inconvenience after the said
implementation, Participants/Account Holders were requested
through a circular to ensure that the UINs entered in CDS are
the same as in NCCPL Database. For this purpose, the list of
un-synchronized Sub-Accounts under the Participant umbrella
can be obtained from CDC upon request for further action.
It should be ensured that the written request is duly signed
by the authorized signatories of the account.
Highlighting Registration Report
A new report has been introduced for the Participants by the
name of “Highlighting Registration Report” (available through
Highlighting Account Detail option). This report allows the
Participants to monitor any updations in the sub-account
registration details under their Participant umbrella as well
as enables them to view any accounts added under their
Participant umbrella during a particular period.
Prohibition of Parking of Book Entry Securities
in the main account at the End of Day
Participants and Account holders are provided with a Main
Account in the CDS, which is a transitory account by definition
in the CDC Regulations. All securities moved to and from
CDS accounts under a Participant umbrella pass through the
said account. CDC has time and again been emphasizing that
this account should be exclusively used as a transit account
and should be cleared at day end.
In this regard, a new Regulation 6.4A has been approved by
the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan,
according to which no Book-entry Securities shall remain
parked in the Main Account of a Participant at the End of
Day. In other words, overnight parking of Book-entry Securities
in the Main Account of a Participant is prohibited.
Therefore, Participants must ensure that all securities held in
Main Account are transferred to the respective accounts or
Sub-Accounts before the End of Day.
Revised Procedures for Input of
Paid-up-Capital / Total Issue in CDS
The procedure of Input of Paid-up Capital / Total Issue in
CDS is an important area where some concerns were
highlighted by Issuers and their Registrars / Transfer Agents
from time to time. The main concern was related with the
requirement of provision of two separate auditors' certificate
to CDC i.e. first at the time of upload and subsequently at the
time of credit of securities. Most Issuers / R/TAs were of the
view that the requirement of providing two separate auditor's
certificates at two different stages should be waived as the
practice is not only costly but is also cumbersome.
In order to streamline the process and to make the mechanism
of increasing paid-up capital / total issue into CDS more
convenient, the procedures have been revised in order to
accommodate our valued clients.
According to the new procedures, Issuers are now required
to submit the said auditors' certificate only once at the time
of upload. Updated / revised version of the procedure has
already been placed on CDC corporate website for ready
