EXPERIENCE Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Koç University School of Medicine

June 2014 – ongoing

My clinical practice is focused on assisted reproductive technologies and gynecological

endoscopy, including advanced endoscopic surgery; such as multiple myomectomy, advanced

endometriosis surgery, correction of congenital Mullerian anomalies, and total hysterectomies. I

also cover general gynecology and obstetric clinics, including labor and delivery.

Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Director of the Assisted Reproduction Unit,

Uludag University, Bursa, Turkey,

November 2011 – May 2014

Up on completion of my fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility I assumed the

directorship of the assisted reproduction unit of Uludag University. Before returning to Turkey, I

contributed to foundation of the unit, during an elective rotation period of my fellowship at

McGill. In addition to my duties as a physician, I trained the nursing staff, organized the

workflow, and prepared documents and data management system.

I managed approximately 1.200 IVF cycles with an overall live birth rate per started cycle of 29%.

By the time I left, the unit was performing over 500 IVF cycles and >500 ovulation induction and

IUI cycles per annum. We also provided fertility preservation services including gamete, embryo

and ovarian cortical tissue freezing. My practice also involved gynecological endoscopy and

obstetric calls.



Attending Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Assisted Reproduction and Women`s Health Unit,

American Hospital

June 2006 – October 2008

In addition to my clinical duties I participated in designing and conducting several research

projects, which were eventually published in leading journals in the field. I also participated in

starting up satellite assisted reproduction units in and out of the country. This has provided me

valuable experience with organizing new units, training staff and working with different teams

under a variety of conditions.

Soranus IVF Centre, June 2006 - October 2008 (Part – time)

Soranus IVF center had a medium sized IVF program with about 250 treatment cycles per annum. They

also did a substantial number of ovulation induction and IUI cycles. I was one of the two attending

physicians responsible for the care of infertile couples starting from the initial consult until delivery for

women who achieved pregnancy. Therefore, my practice included prenatal care and obstetrics as well. I

performed all types of procedures including oocyte collection, embryo transfer, selective embryo

reduction, and diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy. I was offered and granted partnership in return of

my performance. I quitted partnership for moving abroad for fellowship.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITY

Educational and Administrative Activities

1. Associate Dean, Koc University School of Medicine

2017 – 2020

I am recently appointed as associate dean responsible for curricular affairs with a focus on

undergraduate education.

2. Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship Director, Koc University School of

Medicine

2016 – 2017, 2017 – 2018

I started as the associate director in 2014 and extensively revised the obstetrics and gynecology

curriculum at the Koc University School of Medicine. This revision led to a 30% decrease in

classroom lectures, and provided more opportunity for bedside practices. Currently the

curriculum follows the learning objectives and teaching methods recommended by the

Association of Professors on Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) as well as meeting the national

requirements. Our department became an institutional member of APGO since 2016.

I also introduced structured trainings including pelvic examination on models, reporting

examination findings, writing discharge reports, universal precautions and sterile technique,

suture techniques to the obstetrics and gynecology curriculum.



The new curriculum includes role playing sessions on breaking bad news and contraceptive

counselling.

I was responsible for implementing objectively structured clinical examinations (OSCE) in the

department. I trained standardized patients, prepared case scenarios and marking rubrics. OSCEs

have become a routine assessment tool in our program since 2016.

3. Obstetrics and Gynecology Internship Coordinator, Koc University School

of Medicine

2015 - 2016

I prepared the first Obstetrics and Gynecology internship curriculum for the Koc University

School of Medicine. The curriculum included a list of required educational activities, weekly

reviews, and bi-weekly examinations for successful completion of the internship program.

Educational activities were selected based on the national requirements and APGO objectives. I

handed over internship responsibilities when I assumed the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship

Director position.

4. School of Medicine Assessment Committee



I serve as member of the Assessment Committee since 2015. I participate in assessment and

oversight of multiple choice question tests and oral examinations in the medical school. The

duties include i) ensuring each question covers specific learning objectives, ii) the required

minimum percentage of learning objectives are being tested by the final exams, and iii) the

examinations are conducted in a transparent and fair manner. I report to the chair of the

Assessment Committee.

I also serve as the head of the Test Material Development Subcommittee. In 2015, I oversaw the

transition process from manual preparation of multiple choice question examinations to an

electronic examination management system. The process included a global market search,

acquisition of the software and services, and planning the transition. The Department of

Obstetrics and Gynecology was the first department to conduct its examinations by the new

system.

5. Clinical Skills Committee

The Clinical Skills Committee plans when and how a clinical skill should be taught to medical

students during medical education. The committee also prepares and updates structured teaching

manuals for each skill and procedure. My duties include ensuring all the skills relevant to

obstetrics and gynecology, which are required by the national regulations and recommended by

APGO, are taught during the clerkship and internship periods, and the students’ learning and

performance are assessed in a reproducible manner. This involves identification of the skills and



procedures, the ideal time in curriculum for teaching, preparation of illustrated manuals, which

describe each skill in a stepwise fashion, and assessment checklists.

6. Curriculum Development Committee

The Curriculum Development Committee continuously oversees and revises the curriculum of

the medical school. I serve as a representative of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.

7. Medical Education Accreditation Task Force

The Medical Education Accreditation Task Force is formed to complete the national and

international accreditation process of Koc University School of Medicine. The mandate of the

committee includes: i) internal assessment of Koc University School of Medicine regarding

accreditation requirements, ii) making recommendations to the Deans and the departments

regarding accreditation requirements, and iii) preparing the accreditation report.

8. Clinical Research Ethics Committee

I serve as a member of the Clinical Research Ethics Committee. In addition to attending the

meetings, I prepare preliminary assessment reports of submitted research projects prior to each

meeting.

Bedside, Professionalism, Communication and Clinical Skills Teaching

Undergraduate students regularly attend my clinics, surgery and ward visits during their rotation.

I hold three sessions on personal interaction skills and gynecological history taking at the

beginning of the Obstetrics and Gynecology clerkship. Each session is an hour long and prepare

the students for patient interaction before they contact patients at the clinic in a real-life setting.

Learning objectives include introduction of oneself, establishing rapport, history taking in a

systematic manner, covering sensitive topics such as addiction, sexual orientation. One

standardized patient is involved in these sessions and the students have the chance to practice,

observe and provide peer review to each other.

I introduced and supervise the following structured teaching sessions in Obstetrics and

Gynecology Clerkship Program:

Gynecological examination on pelvic models.

Sterile technique and universal precautions.

Suturing and knot tying on trainers.

Reporting examination findings.

Writing a discharge report.



Evidence Based Medicine

I am responsible for implementing formal and structured teaching of principles and practice of

evidence based medicine during undergraduate medical education at Koc University School of

Medicine.

The evidence based medicine curriculum includes 8 lectures/discussions over the 4th year of

medical school. I give the following lectures:

Grading the evidence.

Preparation and implementation of guidelines.

Limitations of evidence based medicine.
