Installing MS SQL SERVER 2008 R2 DATABASE Software Manually (ForWindows Server 2008 R2)

Step1:

Log in as admin

Add .Net Framework 3.5

Click on Add Feature

Now install .Net Framework. Then restart your server.

Step2:(optional, as this is being done for SAP system)

Create the user for SAP system in this step:

1. Install java. Place this folder in C: Drive

2. Set Java Home Environment Variable.

3. Launch SAPinst

Next

Ignore Error in next screen (This is a error regarding the OS.If your OS is Windows server 2008 R2.Otherwise give it a check)

Choose cancel

Choose local installation and press next.

Provide password's in next screen. The passwords should follow windows password policy (i.e. oneUppercase, one lower case and one numeric character and min eight character.)

Click Next and start the installation.

After succesfull installation of user, check if created users (pr1adm and SAPServicePR1) are member of"Administrators" group, otherwise add it there.

Now log off from Admin user and log in as the user which has been created just now.

Step 3:

Installing SQL Server 2008

Click Next.

4. Enter product key and continue.

5. Accept terms & condition & continue.

6. Install setup support files.

7. If there are no failed operations or warnings, choose Next. Otherwise, first check the warnings.

8. Be specific in feature selection as shown below:

9. In instance configuration, let default instance be checked (as it is easier 'suggested by inst guide') & letall other values be default and click next.

10. Click Next in Disk Space Requirement.

11. Make changes as shown below:

Rest all default.

Go to Collation tab and make the changes as below:

Press Next.

12. In database engine config, chosse MIXED mode if installation is for Java Stack or ABAP+JavaStack.

The password being entered is for built in SQL server system admin account. User name for this accountis "sa"and the password should follow windows password policy (i.e. one Uppercase, one lower caseand one numeric character and min eight characters.)

PS: This user and password is used when configuring this system in solution manager.

Then add current user and other SAP users in administrator user:

13. Choose next in Error and usage reporting and check if everything is right in Installation Rule. If thereis no warning click Next

15. Check that all the steps were successful.

Press close.

STEP 4:

Post Installation Activity:

1. Choose:

Start-->All Programs-->Microsoft SQL server 2008 R2 -->Congiguration Tools --> SQL ServerConfiguration Manager.

2. Do following

PS: Let VIA be disabled. In my case I only had to enable Named Pipes. Also check if TCP/IP isenabled or not.

3. Restart SQL server and its agents services.

Step 5:

Verification of Installation:

Go to MS SQL Server Management Studio and enter the host name

and then connect.

This completes the installation process.

If you follow all the steps mentioned above, if you will not face any problem during installation of SAP.
