    Dear Friends i n C h r i s t J e s u s , J u l y , 1969

    Sometimes even modern a i r l i n e s do not keep to t h e i r announcedschedules, thus i t was that we did not arrive back in Johannesburgu n t i l Wednesday the 16th ra ther than Tuesday as planned. All thepassengers were i n t h e i r seats in New York when a large box wasbeing loaded by a hydraul ic l i f t and the dr ive r damaged the s ide ofthe plane. We were asked to disembark while ^hey examined the damageand a f t e r a lengthy wait were given lunch a t u- resturant i n theterminal building and then f i n a l l y the f l i g h t wia cancelled and we weretaken to a hotel for the night. We lef t on Ta ly and had a very enjoyable t rip though th e pressure in the plane was i t steady and twopeople with heart troijble were very uncomfortabx One required oxygenquickly. We flew over Puerto Rico and then the mighty Amazon in B ra zil ,f inally landing at Rio for refueling. This is a beautiful city from thea i r , and we were able t o see the " C h r i s t of the Andes" s t a t u e as we l e f t ,Our touch down in Johannesburg was a l i t t l e a f t e r noon and we werere-united with the g i r l s a f t e r a r a t h e r hectic few minutes with theimmigration man unti l he realized that we were returning permanentr e s i d e n t s at last.

When I arrived at th e office on Thursday, i t was to find i t piledhigh with much of the accumulation from A1 Hamilton's o f f i c e which hehad lef t filled with many of his things. The new tennant naturally didnot want them there so they were s e t in on me. I t took most of the weekto s o r t and throw out most of t h a t and make order of the caos. We arenow s e t t l e d in, though my neighbour made t he obse rva ti on t h a t i f I hadany more we could tape i t to the cieling. Actually i t is not really allthat bad, though we sti l l do not have a dark room and we are consideringthe possibility of selling our home and moving to a larger house wherewe could have room for a dark room, study and print room there. Whatwe now j u s t pay a landlord could go toward the extra cost and we wouldcertainly save considerable travel time and cost each day.

We have contacted three magazines concerning the placement of ouradvertisements as soon as possible. That will probably be with theSeptember issue as we were too late for the August ones. When thoseare out, the mail work will pick up, but now we have several printingjobs to be done immediately. The serviceman has just come to clean upthe press and adjust i t for me before I can use i t . I tried using i twithout these adjustments only to have very poor results.

We are starting to keep a new log book so that from next month,we hope to be able to include with our news letter a short, compact,"minute report" of s t a t i s t i c s . This will include th e nunfcer oflesson books distributed, certificates issued fo r work done, thosewho have been r ef er re d t o the Ministerial Training School at PortShepstone for class room work, those requesting baptism by the nearestminister to their home, and the number of impressions printed. We havenot kept records on some of these things before and the work has quitenaturally gone down during the seven months with no promotion at all,bu t this month we s t i l l had 24 new books sent out, 22 certificatesgiven, and 3 were referred to the school at Port Shepstone for classwo rk ,

    Sunday th e 27th. Phyllis and I were guests of honour a t a choirconcert given at Soweto location here by brother Beme's congregation.I t was good to be rre unite d with old f r i e n d s i n th e Lord.

Dear Fr iends in Chr i s t Jesus ,We praise th e Lord for His wonderful answers toprayer this month. We sold our home las t month and

booked the mover fo r the 29th , It drew very near t ha tdate, the people who had bought our house were planninto move on the 30th, and s t i l l we had not fount^ buildsociety which would undertake the bond on the new placOn the Monday afternoon, before we were to sh i f t on Wnesday morning, the bond was confi rmed by telephone. Tproblem had, of course, been tha t we were foreign andthat we had, from a man of the w orld 's po in t of view, income. I t was in answer to prayer that a l lturned out wel^^^nd we moved d)Lrectly on schedule. The builder also must have

had doubts , anything real ly f inished and so we arel iving in a not completely wired and which i s unpainted. He ins ta l led the c lose t door handles yesterday. We j u s t thank_the Lord for homeand she l t e r , and look forward to being able to house the work there as wel l andto using it to His glory and praise . We plan to move the off ice during th ism onth and have s e r v ed n ot i c e to t h i s effect w ith th e l a nd l o r d .

Another new phase of the work began yesterday when we began our ministrywith the Tul isa Park Chr i s t i an Church. As we sha l l be l iv ing very near therewe had planned to at tend th is work in any case. Brother Leroy Herde r, b ein grel ieved a t Tul isa Park , wi l l now give a l l h is Sunday mornings to the work a tCar l tonvi l le . They had nearly for ty yesterday while we had eighteen in churchat Tulisa Park, This congregation meets in a home and is very cramped for spac,A double garage has been o ffe re d fo r i t s use and we expect to s t a r t using itshor t ly , the Lord wi l l i ng .

Ear l ier in the month. I was invi ted to f i l l the pulp i t of the Coloured worka t Beit St ree t on two dif fe ren t occas ions , I may be doing th i s frequent ly asthey need the i r help in the evenings and Tulisa Park has only morning services ,and Sunday School. Brother Rodger Vickroy helps them in the mornings.

Last month, we enclosed a leaf le t t i t led, "The Printed Vage- Ev

We sha l l have a dark room fo r the f i r s t t ime,

by: the office will be conveniently at hand, whichMrt>ber street Church of dhrlit will allow tvening work as well. At the moment.Urbane, Illinois however, it is far from sat i s factory . We have had aForwarding Agent: series of different pain ters in the house constantlys, for sev eral weeks, and the elec t r ica l connectionsBox 134, w. Salon. Illinois still had n o t beenmade a f t e r we had been in th e

house for s ix weeks already. This meant tha t none oft he househo ld appliances or e lec t r i ca l office or print ing equipment could beused. I t is suppr ising how many things depend on e lec t r i c i ty , so we rever tedr igh t back to candles for l igh t and f r iends fo r laundry and i roning. Luckilywe had the t iny t r a i l e r r ef ri ge ra to r t ha t operated on gas or we would havebeen in worse t roubles . Even my razor is e le ct r ic . The bot t le gas b i l l aboutbroke us up as we had to buy in small l i t t l e bot t les and I cm sure tha t theywere often shor t weighted. The elec tr ic ian has now arrived, f ina l ly however, and we have power fo r a p leasan t change.

We have offered our services to the Beit Street congregation and theyhave accepted, so we shal l be preaching there each Lord's Day evening and a tTulisa Park in the mornings. The f i r s t Sunday they had an excellent attendanceand several visi tors from both Tulisa Park and Craighall Park congregationa aaMr Cook was away a t J r Camp. Phyl l i s and par t of our family are a l to thereand Phyll is is teaching and helping in the kitchen.

Kathryn and Ruth have taken Summer jobs a t th e P ri nc es s Nursing Homeas Norse^ Aids. I think that they are going to quite enjoy the experience afterthe newness wears off a b i t . The nurse next door has offered to give them ar ide in of mornings but I wi l l have to go for them during the day and nighthours as the bus is not re l iable . They are both enrolled in a Business Collegeto s t a r t in February and hope to complete the co urse in time to coioe back toAmerica for the Fa l l term at Bible College .

The work a t Tulisa Park has been going very slowly and we have beenconcentrat ing on very basic doc t r ina l teaching s ince we found tha t the memberswere mostly of a Pentecostal background and had been taught sa lvat ion throughfaith alone. The former minister did not bother to teach them otherwise, consequen tl y t hey considered some unbaptized bel ievers to be Christ ians andmembers of th e congregation. At leas t we are now correcting th is misconception, and we hope to emerge with a s tr onge r s 'oup of people who knov what theybelieve and vhy. We have a great help ia that one of th e stro ng personali t iesof the congregation is well aware of the New Testament position and hoXdi to it
