LICEO DELLE SCIENZE UMANE – Socio- Economics Course
GRAPHIC ART SCHOOL
Our school identity has been defined through a long process of traditions, experimentations and innovations; as a matter of fact, there has always been a close connection between the historical past of this institution and the modernity of ever-changing times. WHERE WE ARE…… The Secondary School “Erasmo da Rotterdam” is situated in Bollate, a town in the north-west of Milan. The head-office (Via Varalli 24, 20021 Bollate-MI) is close to the town centre and to the train station (Bollate Nord).
E- Mail address: [email protected]
WEB SITE: www.itcserasmo.it
The school is equipped with the following labs: Foreign Languages, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Electronics and Telecommunications, IT, CAD.
The school is provided with four gyms, football field and indoor swimming pool.
Liceo delle Scienze Umane
Its core subjects are Human Sciences, Law, Economics and Finance; Maths lessons also include IT. The school curriculum includes the learning of two foreign languages: English and French or Spanish.
After a five-year diploma course, students will have the chance to attend any University faculty or any other course of higher education. They can also be employed in agencies, cooperative associations, groups and organizations that are active in the field of welfare services to children (youth workers), youths, as well as old and disabled people.
Our "Liceo delle Scienze Umane" is characterized by the particular care for teaching/learning processes, the students as individuals with ever-changing needs and personal inspirations and the direct and close cooperation with the students' families.
In addition, the students of the third, fourth and fifth year are also given the opportunity of participating in specific training courses and getting a job experience either for a whole week during the school year (internship) or during the summer holidays (alternanza scuola-lavoro).
Several other extra-curricular projects or activities are included in our "Piano dell'Offerta Formativa" (educational projects).
Socio-economics course (LES) Students are educated and trained for the purpose of applying their specific skills in the interpretation of social, cultural, economic phenomena (with a particular reference to the management of agencies, associations, organizations and other institutions that are involved in welfare services/social care), communication strategies and legal, financial issues. In addition to this, the learning of two foreign languages and several scientific subjects as an integral part of the official school curriculum allow students to become more European-oriented and cope with the complexities of contemporary society as a whole. This course is particularly suited to those students who: - are interested in socio-cultural phenomena and issues; - are interested in all those activities related to the complexities of communication strategies, intercultural relationships, welfare services; - are interested in the close connection between Human Sciences and Legal/Financial issues; - are interested in learning two foreign languages and cultures and want to feel part of a more and more European-oriented country (e.g. certification of skills based on the Common European Framework of Reference)

GRAPHIC ART SCHOOL
Liceo Artistico indirizzo Grafica
This course of studies aims at creating a good knowledge of core subjects ( Italian, History, Maths, Physics, English) and a way of thinking turned towards communication, project making and competence in operating on real or simulated problems. In the specific target subjects of the course the students will learn about project techniques, will be encouraged towards innovation and critical thinking working with computer graphic programs, graphic-pictorial techniques for publishing illustration, processing and materials for three-dimensional creations.
The students collaborate with external customers and take part in public contests.
- know and apply graphic, pictorial and IT techniques for the use in art production processes;
- identify the correct approach to a project-product-context method;
- planning of project and operating processes in graphics and graphic design areas with autonomous management;
- appropriate use of techniques and technologies, tools, materials and the latest photo, multimedia, IT instruments.

The education course of studies given to the students in our school is split in two phases. The former, a two-year cycle, is focused on the completion of the compulsory education and the achievement of topic-specific learning goals. The latter, divided into a two-year and a one-year cycles, is a continuous education program leads to the formation of the professional figures.
The school therefore aims, supported by a solid expertise, at a wide range of education objectives, focusing on the behavior, the learning and personal growth processes. Through encouraging interaction and cross-projects, the courses aim at a complete education of the student.

The school program encourages interaction, communication and reaction to the stimuli from the outside world, giving rise to an array of activities involving the territorial dynamics through its main institutions. Among the most important projects, carried on through the years, and still active in continuously updating forms , one can find stages in design offices or enterprises, the school-to-work alternation, the visiting of construction sites and road works, the environmental-friendly recovery of buildings turned to a different use , the evaluation assessment for land register, the restoration and preservation of buildings.

Laboratory for Didactic Robotics
The ITCS Erasmo da Rotterdam is a technical high school located in a suburb of Milan in northern Italy, with a student population that is strongly heterogeneous and, often, not so easy to coax into deepening their scientific and technological knowledge. Four years ago was activated an open space named the Permanent Laboratory for Didactic Robotics , where students can experiment in a different way from the standard classroom. Here, they approach the technical disciplines in an interactive environment in which pupils can negotiate some unexpected aspects of the subject matter, make choices regarding the subjects they will pursue, organize their own jobs and receive direct feedback from the results of their actions. In other words, they get to experiment in an “active learning space” based on the old and well-known model of “situated cognition” , where students Collaborate with one another and with their instructor while pursuing a common goal with a shared understanding. In this learning space, pupils can practice a “cognitive apprenticeship” that uses problem-solving methodologies. The teacher assumes the role of a “professional expert” who proposes specific processes involving authentic tasks and strategies, and allows students to try them independently, coaching only as needed. Robotics was the natural choice to provide a fertile breeding ground for the convergence of different disciplines and the exchange of knowledge. We decided that the fun of taking part in the RoboCup Junior competition would provide a strong stimulus to boost student participation.
