The land was previously owned by a family with close ties to tSri Aurobindo Ashram and in years past the Mother occasionalvisited the site. She greatly appreciated the natural beauty andeep silence of the spot, gave it the name "Quiet", and spokeas the (future) sight of what she called, "a special kind of hotwhere people suffering from the stress of ordinary life could cto recharge and heal." Many years later, one of the Mother's former secretariesmoved to help realize this vision. Funds were raised, theacquired for Auroville, and construction of facilities begun.Quiet Healing Centre opened in February, 1997.

Healing retreats

Since 1998, the Quiet Healing Center has periodically cond'healing retreats'. A Quiet Healing Retreat is a highly structten day residential programme in which a combination of integroup work and individual therapy enables the participaexperience himself in new ways. The aim is to bringparticipant into contact with that deeper part of his being

which well his own healing energies and to equip him witknowledge and techniques whereby that contact maymaintained after he leaves the programme.

Quiet healing retreats are presently offered only byarrangement with groups which undertake to provide allparticipants to the programme: a group size of ten to foupe ople seems to be ideal.
