GREENTU DELFTThe central organisation of TU Delft in the field of sustainability. By supporting existing initiatives in their activities, setting up new innovation projects, providing information on sustainable education and organising events, we connect students, staff and relevant stakeholders at the university.

FOODSHARING DELFTDelft’s own initiative to fight food waste! Foodsharing Delft aims to reduce food waste on and around campus by organizing dinners prepared from food that would otherwise be thrown way. It is also a great opportunity to meet new people. Follow them on Facebook if you do not want to miss their next event!

CAMPUS FARMTU Delft’s own community garden is open for students who are interested in growing their own fruits and veggies. Not feeling to sure about your gardening skills yet? You can also join a gardening course at X. The site includes a composting system open to everyone to bring organic waste. The compost is used again in the garden.

POLLINATION PROJECTPollination project is developed to create a set of gardens showing the relationship between people and nature in the world subjected to climate change. Four gardens built by landscape architecture students display multiple microclimates: at the back of TNW, in front of IO, next to the library and around the EWI buildings.

GEOTHERMAL WELLATES makes use of aquifers to store low-grade thermal energy such as solar heat or waste heat during off-peak periods, which are withdrawn for later use during high-demand periods. There are 12 buildings equipped with ATES so far, but more and more are happening on Campus Zuid in the near future.

WILDGROEI A small, intimate family business run by mother and daughter. Located in the heart of Delft, Wildgroei is a vegetarian & vegan lunchroom and take-away offering conscious food with a varied menu and seasonal dishes. Not to mention their amazingly fresh coffee!

RATAPLANA huge second-hand store in Delft Zuid: treasure hunt on more than 2500 m2! Rataplan is one of the five biggest thrift shops in the Netherlands. Additionally, it is neat and well-organized. You can find anything that you can think of: bikes, furniture, books, clothes etc.

DE WINKELRia and Dirk have been the owners of De Winkel for almost 40 years! A small shop where you can find products like bamboo toothbrushes & bamboo cups, but also and ideal place for creative minds: they sell all kinds of small things like millons of buttons if you want to fix your clothes.

SECOND STORYAt Second Story you can find second-hand books and almost new or new games. The store has a general collection of books with an emphasis on literature and English books. You can always browse www.secondstory.nl to see the complete list of books or games. Literary evenings are organized by runners every 6 weeks.

KEKThe perfect place for a Sunday brunch. Or a Mon-day lunch. Or whenever you want to enjoy specialty coffe, a lazy breakfast or a delicious, home-made & organic lunch. A lively, unique coffee bar, selling also authentic products, special gifts and souvenirs.

WOLBODOEvery Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, people association Wolbodo offers delicious food and great company for a small price. The Indonesian cook Mike prepares traditional Indonesian as well as Dutch food, starting at 6.30pm. A meal has three courses and coffee in the end for only €5.

HILLS & MILLSHills&Mills is a cafe in Delft that features healthy, organic, sustainable, and fair trade food. They aim to minimalize waste and only serve food made of local produce from the season. They also welcome veggie, vegan, halal, and sugar/lactose/gluten-free diets.

HUMMUSHummus serves delicious, healthy Middle-Eastern food. Their entire menu is vegetarian and lots of it is vegan as well. Sustainability is important to them; they even have an eco-toilet that flushes with the used water from the sink!

THUIS BIJ LADERAOnly restaurant in Delft where you can get to know the true Dutch cuisine. The best place to enjoy your home made stamppot (vegetarian options available). The prices at this restaurant are very friendly for your wallet.

VINTAGE ISLANDDo you need a shirt with crazy pattern? Or maybe cowboy boots? Colorful floral print hippy dresses? You can find them all along with many other vintage clothes and accessories on the Vintage Island.

DE FLINSTONESThe ultimate thrift shop experience. You can literally find anything here, just have to be patient: all sorts of goods are stacked up and form a chaotic maze where you can easily get lost. Even if you are not planning to buy anything, you can just go for the experience, but probably you won’t go away empty-handed.

WERELDWINKELCoffee, tea, small sculptures and many other things are sold here. This shop is run by volunteers, who work for disadvantaged producers in developing countries. This is done through the sale of fair products, which are purchased from authorized importers and meet the criteria for fair trade.

DELFT MARKET On every Thursday the Market Square, while on Saturday mornings the Brabantse Turfmarkt is the place where you can get the cheapest fruits and vegetables package free. It’s also worth to check out the flea market on Saturdays around Wijnhaven and Hyppolitusbuurt. Don’t forget to bring your own bags and containers!

EKOPLAZA A 100% organic supermarket in the city centre close to De Winkel. Good quality products for a fair price with no synthetic aromas, colourings, flavourings or preservatives. Large variety of gorcery: the shop even has a small bulk isle for nuts/oats/dried fruits.

ECO & COEco & Co is a cooperative “rescuing” organic fruits and vegetables. A lot of unsold products of any kind are trashed nowadays. Therefore they take over a part of unsold organic fruit and vegetables to redistribute them. A basket costs 10E for about 5 Kg of a great variety of fruits and vegetables.

AMBACHTAt Ambacht you can buy the flour that miller Jan mills in their own Delft mill: Molen de Roos. Besides their own flour, they also sell all kinds of other things you might need while making your own baked goods.

DE WEILANDWINKELIn the Weilandwinkel they sell organic and organic-dynamic produce from the Biesland Hoeve and other farms in the area. Everything that you can buy here is sustainable and is guaranteed to have no negative impact on the environment.

ODINOdin is a cooperative supermarket offering organic food. They don’t aim for profit, keep their own bees and culture seed-resistant breeds of fruits and vegetables. If you become a member of the cooperative you can get 20% discount.

DELFTSE HOUT Are you looking for a nice place for jogging? Or a green area where you can just simply hang out with your friends after a tiring week? Delftse Hout is one of the most popular, spacious parks in Delft. If you want to cool down during hot summers, come here and go for a swim in the lake!

BOTANICAL GARDEN The Botanical Garden is both a relaxing green area. It was founded in 1917 as the ‘Cultural Garden for Technical Crops’, with the main purpose of cultivating plants for scientific research and education. Nowadays, research carried out in the Garden includes the use of plants as biofilters, drought resistance of Aloe Vera, and the use of roots to increase the stability of dikes.

DE PAPAVERSustainability centre De Papaver is located in the Delftse Hout. The building is built sustainably and they have a herb garden and organise sustainability related events. They also sell sustainable products in their shop.
