Concrete cone failure Concrete cone failure is determined by the strength class of concrete (f.e. C20/25), the embedment depth, direction of action and edge/axe distances. It is therefore NOT determined by the type of injection mortar used. 2. Steel failure Steel failure is determined by the strength class of steel (f.e. 5.8, 8.8 or 10.9 steel). It is therefore NOT determined by the type of injection mortar used. 3. Bond failure The strength of the mortar is called bond strength, and is expressed in N/mm². Multiplying this bond strength with the total affixture surface results in the characteristic value of the total bond strength and the resulting loading value is expressed in kN. For identical (average) rod diameters, steel classes and concrete strengths, the type of failure mode with tension loading is dependent on the embedment depth. For shallow embedment depths (h ef = 4xØ to 5xØ), concrete cone failure usually occurs. For very large embedment depths (h ef > 12xØ), steel failure usually occurs. In general, this also implies that applying an embedment depth of more than 12xØ does not increase load values (unless also higher steel grades are used), because steel failure occurs anyway. For shear loading the steel strength is determining, assuming no reduced edge or axe distances are considered and enough concrete avoids edge concrete breakout. Proof of equivalency In correspondence with the explanation on the previous page, to demonstrate the equivalence of the injection mortar Powers PURE-150PRO, the bond strength must be compared. This bond strength is determined according to the international guidelines as described in ETAG 001 Part 5 and ETAG Technical Report TR029, and is available in the ETA approval documents of the three products. A distinction must be made for different temperature ranges, between the bond strength in dry/wet and flooded drillholes, and also if uncracked concrete can be proven, or if cracked concrete must be assumed.

Based on the table above, it is proven that the injection mortar Powers PURE150-PRO is to be considered at least equivalent to either Hilti® RE-500, Hilti® RE-500 SD or Edilon® DEX R2K. There is however one exception for very large embedment depths: whereas Powers PURE-150PRO and Edilon® DEX R2K have an approved embedment depth up to 12xØ, Hilti® is approved up to 20xØ. It is the decision of the structural engineer responsible for technical matters in the site to assess if this is relevant. As shown on the previous page, it will only be relevant if large rod diameters and/or very high steel grades (f.e. 10.9 steel) are used, otherwise embedment depths of more than 12xØ do not increase load values anyway as steel will be the weakest link, not the bond strength of the injection mortar. Other aspects Additionally, the following arguments should be considered:

1. Applications within the scope and limitations of an ETA-approval have been objectively proven to be fit for a working life of 50 years

2. Powers PURE-150PRO is approved for threaded rods and rebar whereas Edilon® DEX R2K is only approved for threaded rods

3. Powers PURE-150PRO is approved in uncracked concrete for threaded rods in

diameters M8 to M30 whereas Edilon® DEX R2K is only approved for M12-M30. In cracked concrete however, Powers PURE-150PRO is approved for M12 – M24, whereas Edilon® DEX R2K and Hilti®RE-500 are not approved. Hilti RE-500 SD is approved in cracked concrete from M8-M30.

4. Powers PURE-150PRO is up to M16 approved for a drill diameter of 2mm larger than the threaded rod diameter, whereas the drill diameter of Edilon® DEX R2K is 4mm larger. This results into a saving of mortar use of up to 50% when using Powers

5. Hilti also has a separate approval on the RE-500 for rebar connections (ETA 08/0105). (Only) for the rebar applications specifically described in this approval (with embedment depths up to 125xØ), also diamond drilling and air pressure drilling are allowed. Should the structural engineer have prescribed Hilti RE500 specifically for rebar connections based on ETA 08/0105, neither Powers PURE 150 PRO nor Edilon® DEX R2K can be considered equivalent

6. Powers PURE-150PRO has a setting time at 10°C of only 30 hours (Edilon® and Hilti® both 48 hours)

7. Powers PURE-150PRO has a geltime at 10°C of no less than 90 minutes (Edilon® only 30 minutes, Hilti® also 90 minutes)

8. Powers PURE-150PRO is approved for no less than 3 temperature ranges (the maximum), whereas Edilon® is only approved for one temperature range. This results in the fact that in environments with elevated temperatures such as facades, tunnels, greenhouses etc., Edilon® DEX R2K is not approved

9. Powers PURE-150PRO is available in 3 robust cartridges (385ml, 585ml and 1400ml), whereas the foil packaging of Hilti® RE-500 is much more fragile

10. Powers PURE-150PRO has a shelflife after production of 24 months, whereas Hilti® RE-500 has a shelflife of 9 months

11.
