1 INTRODUCTION

The different lubricants given for the same application do not correspond to each other completely. Therefore, they are not to be mixed.

When the ambient temperature stays permanently above +50 °C, the suitable oil quality must bedetermined by a specialist.

2 ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

Waste oil and material must be taken care of according to the local requirements and KONEEnvironment policy.

3 SAFETY

Pay attention to following safety items:

• General KONE safety regulations are to be followed during the work. All safety measures signifiedfor normal elevator maintenance are to be implemented and local safety regulations followed.

• Refer to AM-01.03.002 “Take 5 Electrical Safety When Working on Elevators” The Take 5 safetyinitiative is designed for installation, servicing, maintenance and modernisation work done on lifts.

• Use gloves when handling oily substances.

4 WORM GEARS

4.1 Synthetic oils

The gear factory HHG has used synthetic oil in the gears beginning from 1.10.1983. The oil type isgiven in the oil label of the gear. A synthetic lubricant contributes to a life time 2...5 times longercompared to mineral oils.

Synthetic oil must not be applied in gears, the oil label of which gives mineral oil, unless its influence onseals and on the paint of the gear interior surface has been taken into account. When using oils basedon synthetic hydrocarbons or polyglycol, nitrile rubber seals on the secondary shaft and viton rubber orfluoro rubber seals on the primary shaft are applicable. When using polyglycol based oil, the gear mustbe finished with paint that resists permanent contact with hot synthetic oil.

Oils with a specific gravity more than 1 are polyglycol based. No other oil can be mixed with them.

4.2 Mineral oils

The following mineral oils include extreme pressure additives. If the additives are sulphur based, theycan cause chemical corrosion of bronze in high operating temperatures. Oils including metallicadditives (lead) and synthetic oils do not cause chemical corrosion.

7 GREASE LUBRICATION OF ANTI-FRICTION AND SLEEVE BEARINGS

These greases are suitable for use in anti-friction and sleeve bearings. Because of their wide operatingtemperature range and good resistance to water they are applicable as multipurpose greases. Socalled graphite grease is not recommended for anti-friction bearings.

8 WIRE ROPES OF LIFTS

Ropes are lubricated with oils that do not include extreme pressure additives.

In special cases, when the ropes have slippage, silicone based lubricants can be used as an exeption.Two-fold friction compared to mineral oils can be reached by using silicone based lubricants.
