Razlan Razali (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 1972) has been one of the main catalysts to the booming popularity of motorcycle racing in Malaysia and South East Asia in recent years. Razlan’s career has been dedicated to the development of motorsport in his country, coming up with new business ventures and strategies to help improve the conditions of the sport. In October 2008 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Sepang International Circuit, since which time he has further enhanced the good name of the track and motorsport. His work has not only been to make Sepang one of the most internationally recognised and decorated circuits, evidenced by the award for MotoGP Best Grand Prix 2012 and 2017, but he has also been a pioneer in using this platform to support motorcycling in Malaysia in all aspects and disciplines.

Razlan’s first great achievement in the world of two wheels was to have two home riders competing in the Malaysian Grand Prix in 2009, which was an historic moment for the nation. Since then there has constantly been a full-time Malaysian rider contesting at least one of the categories within the MotoGP World Championship, with the trailblazing Zulfahmi Khairuddin as the reference point. The second big milestone came in 2015 with the creation of the SIC Racing Team in Moto3, achieving two podium finishes in its first season. In 2018 the team was extended to include Moto2 and in 2019 it took the big step up to the premier class. Under the expert guidance of Razlan Razali, SIC is also collaborating with the Asia Talent Cup, a breeding ground for the best young Asian racing talent. The SIC Racing team is also present in the FIM CEV series, which is the stepping stone to the MotoGP World Championship, and Sepang International Circuit has been also involved in the World Superbikes series. The circuit has a close collaboration with the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports.

In 2019 the dreams of many thousands of Malaysians, including Razlan Razali himself, became a reality. The sky is the limit for this most ambitious and exciting challenge, which made history in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia, as the PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team competed for the first time in MotoGP with successful results.

Johan Stigefelt

Johan Stigefelt (Anderstorp, Sweden - 1976) has never taken a backward step in his professional career. ‘Stiggy’ grew up as a motorcycle racer in his native Sweden, where he was twice crowned national champion (in 1994 and 1995), before winning the Nordic Championship in 1996. His hard work earned him a World Championship shot in 1998, going on to spend five seasons in the 250cc class and one in the elite 500cc (MotoGP). The next step in his racing career was to set up his own operation - the Stiggy Racing Team - in the World Supersport Championship in 2005. After two years combing the roles of rider and Team Manager, Stigefelt decided to hang up his leathers and focus 100% and focus on running the team, which he took to WSBK until 2009. His return to the MotoGP World Championship came in 2012, alongside RW Racing, when he completed his first season as Team Manager in the Moto3 class and immediately enjoyed podium successes and victories as he helped guide Luis Salom to the runner-up position in the final standings. In 2014 Johan took on a new challenge, occupying the same role for AirAsia Caterham Racing in the Moto2 class, where his riders were again fighting for honours, but his next big adventure would come along in 2015, when joined forces with the SIC Racing Team. After three straight seasons in Moto3 that wielded the team’s first podiums, the structure was expanded in 2018 to include a rider in Moto2. Stigefelt has been a cornerstone to the development of the Malaysian team, which last year reached its goal of the MotoGP World Championship in 2019, under the name of the PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team.

Wilco Zeelenberg (Bleiswijk, The Netherlands – 1966) first threw his leg over a motorcycle with the help of his father at the age of just four. By the time he was fourteen years old he was a fully-fledged racer, winning his first Dutch national title when he was just fifteen. In 1986 he made his debut in the 80cc World Championship and after a further season in the same category and one more in 125cc, he went on to spend eight seasons competing in the 250cc category, lining up as team-mate to Kevin Schwantz in 1992. The Dutchman took a victory and eleven podiums in the quarter-litre class, with a best overall championship finish of fourth place. In 1997 he made the switch to the World Supersport series with Yamaha, picking up two wins over four seasons and finishing in the top ten for each of the first three years.

After retiring as a professional racer, Zeelenberg remained with Yamaha Motor Europe as Technical Racing Co-ordinator, a position he held for seven years. In 2008 he became Team Manager for the factory’s World Supersport team and celebrated the title with Cal Crutchlow in 2009. From 2010 he joined Yamaha’s Factory Racing MotoGP team, again in the role of Team Manager. During seven years with them, Jorge Lorenzo was crowned MotoGP World Champion in three of them - 2010, 2012 and 2015. For 2017-2018 seasons, Wilco Zeelenberg continued to work with the team in the role of a Rider Performance Analyst. In 2019 he took on a new challenge but in a familiar role, as Team Manager of the PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team, where his experience was invaluable in getting the absolute maximum out of the team’s young riders.
