The university beganas the Lowell Normal School, a teachingcollege ounded in 1894, and theLowell Textile School, ounded in 1895to train technicians and managers orthe textile industry.     Lowell State and Lowell Tech, as they

    were then known, merged in 1975 toorm the University o Lowell. Thecampus became part o the Universityo Massachusetts system in 1991.

    Your pathway to UMass LowellNavitas at UMass Lowell oers anumber o varying programs to cater tostudents with dierent levels o Englishprociency. The UPP oered by Navitasat UMass Lowell is equivalent to therst year o a UMass Lowell bachelorsdegree. Upon successul completion othe UPP, you will move directly into thesecond year o your chosen degree.

    The PMP is a one or two-semester program designed or students whohave completed a bachelors degree but need additional academic and/orEnglish support to gain entry to the UMass Lowell masters program.

    The Lowell Regional Transit Authority(LRTA) also provides a public busservice to campus, originating at theKennedy Bus Transer Station at theGallagher Intermodal TransportationCenter. The MBTA (Massachusetts Bay

    Transit Authority) provides a commuterrail service rom Lowell to Boston,New York and beyond, seven days aweek rom the Gallagher Center. Lowellis only 30 minutes rom the heart oBoston and 4 hours rom New York City.

    Pre-Masters Program (PMP)The PMP is a one or two-semesterprogram designed or studentswho have completed a bachelorsdegree but need additionalsupport to gain entry to theUMass Lowell masters program.

    The PMP program helps to close thegap in your academic or English skills

    and oers courses to ully prepare youto be successul in your graduateprogram, while also gaining credittowards your graduate program inthe process.

    When you are accepted into the PMPyou are also conditionally accepted intothe masters program, as long as yousuccessully complete the PMPcoursework and attain a GPA o 3.0 inboth your PMP and graduate courses.You do not need to make any otherapplication and you will only need
