Good atmosphere and lots of funWhilst the leaves are falling from the trees and forming a beautiful palette of colours on the Lange Voorhout and het Plein, The Hague is getting itself ready for the next season. It's the time when we go and blow off the cobwebs in the bracing wind along the beach, time to visit the historical city centre where the allure of the royal palace on the Noordeinde Palace and the 'Girl with a pearl earring' by Dutch master Johannes Vermeer set the scene, or the time when we arrive home with bags full of Christmas shopping or clothes from one of The Hague's many little boutiques. In the restaurants trendy blends with authentic cuisine from all around the World. Everything is on offer, from the daily special to a full gourmet dinner, from hip restaurants to Dim Sum in Chinatown.

Hoe gingen schilders in verschillende tijden met dezelfde artistieke vraagstukken om? Bekijk de overeenkomsten en verschillen tussen 'moderne' en 'oude' meesters uit de prachtige collectie 17de-eeuwse Hollandse schilderijen van het Mauritshuis. Ontdek hoe bij Vermeers ‘Meisje met de parel’ en Dalí's ‘Couple aux têtes pleines de nuages’ silhouetwerking en koloriet verrassend verwant zijn. Bekijk hoe rogier van der Weyden en francis Bacon elk een eigen interpretatie geven van het lijdensverhaal van Christus. 'dali meets Vermeer'

How did painters from different eras handle the same artistic questions? See the similarities and differences between 'modern' and 'old' Masters in the Mauritshuis. Paintings by artists such as Salvador Dalí, Claude Monet and francis Bacon are coming to the museum this Autumn and will each time be shown alongside one of the Maurithuis' old paintings. In het Louwman Museum vertelt iedere auto z'n eigen verhaal. In twee generaties verzamelde de familie Louwman ruim 230 antieke auto's. Hoogtepunten zijn diverse oude Spykers, de Aston Martin DB5 van James Bond, de Jaguar D-Type (winnaar van Le-Mans in 1957), de ferrari van Prins Bernhard en de oranje Porsche van Carel Godin de Beaufort. Tevens is de op één na oudste auto ter wereld aanwezig: een De Dion Bouton & Trépardoux uit 1887.

A passion for cars

In the Louwman Museum each car has its own story to tell. for two generations the Louwman family collected more than 200 classic cars. De door pers en publiek succesvol ontvangen voorstelling ‘Bacchanten’ van Euripides was in korte tijd uitverkocht. reden voor Toneelgroep De Appel om extra voorstellingen te spelen.Euripides schreef 'Bacchanten' toen Athene in oorlog was met Sparta. In deze onzekere tijd zocht men naar houvast met als gevolg dat oude rituelen de kop opstaken. Een tragedie over het conflict tussen de roes en de rede.

A current-day greek tragedy

Thanks to the excellent reviews from both the Press and public, the performance of Euripides 'The Bacchae' (Bacchanten) was soon fully sold out. Good enough reason for De Appel Theatre Group to put on some extra performances. Euripides wrote 'The Bacchae' when Athens was at war with Sparta. In those uncertain times people were looking for something to hold on to, resulting in a return to old rituals. A tragedy about the conflict between ecstasy and reason. (Dutch spoken).

Come and shudder at the ‘Scary Things’ exhibition. Beguile yourself with diseases and their cures, parasites, the fear of dirt and contamination, violence and lots of other horrible things. The author, Adriaan van Dis, is the guest curator so there will certainly be no shortage of books on display. Vanaf begin november staat het AfAS Circustheater weer in het teken van een nieuwe musical. 'Wicked' vertelt het verhaal van een onwaarschijnlijke vriendschap tussen twee vrouwen in het magische land van Oz; de blonde, populaire en stijlvolle Glinda (Chantal Janzen) en de onbegrepen, strijdlustige, groene outsider Elphaba (Willemijn Verkaik). Van 24 september 2011 tot en met 8 januari 2012 organiseert het museum een tentoonstelling waarbij Haagse winkels van toen en nu worden gepresenteerd in de tentoonstelling 'MijnDen Haag*Winkelt'. In deze bijzondere tentoonstelling is te zien hoe de stad zich ontwikkelde tot winkelparadijs met buurtwinkels, (super)markten, chique speciaalzaken en grote warenhuizen. Hoogtepunt is een reconstructie van de hoeden- en pettenwinkel van Bik waar zowel de rijke Hagenaar als de gewone Hagenees zijn hoofddeksel kocht. Ook verschijnt een boekje met wandelroutes langs Haagse winkeliconen, want deze tentoonstelling is niet compleet zonder winkelen in Den Haag.

Those who can't get enough of shopping in The Hague, is going to have a great time at The Hague's Historical Museum in the coming season. from 24th September until 8th January, 2012 the museum is organising an exhibition in which shops in The Hague from the past and present will be on display in 'MyHague*Shopping'. In this unusual exhibition you can see how the city developed into a shoppers’ paradise with local shops, (super)markets, chic specialty shops and big department stores. The main feature is a reconstruction of the hat and cap shop, van Bik, where the rich of The Hague, as well as the ordinary folk, used to buy their headgear. They have also produced a booklet with shopping routes around The Hague's shopping icons, as this exhibition isn't complete until you've actually been shopping in The Hague.

This museum holds a treasure of information about William of Orange and the Golden Age Delft. It is established in the former Saint Agatha convent. In 1572 William of Orange selected it as one of his residences. It was form this building that he led the rebellion against Philip II of Spain. He was murdered here in 1584. The cannonball holes are still in the wall. The museum depicts the story of Rebellion on the basis of paintings and artefacts. It also shows Golden Age art, including paintings by contemporaries of Johannes Vermeer. The building still has the ambience of a medieval convent.

rond de kerstdagen hangt overal een gezellige sfeer, niet alleen huiskamers en winkels worden feestelijk aangekleed. Ook buiten is de sfeer gemoedelijk met de verlichte bomen en gevels. Niets is mooier dan in deze periode een wandeling te maken in het betoverende landschap van één van de Haagse badplaatsen, Kijkduin.

Als iedereen moe en hongerig is kom je lekker bij met warme chocomelk en pannenkoeken in Klein Seinpost! Tot slot warm en voldaan in de auto naar het centrum van Den Haag om de dag af te sluiten met een bezoek aan Omniversum. Hier word je meegenomen naar andere werelden. Meegezogen in prachtige avonturen in de uitgestrekte natuur, lijkt het soms net alsof je vliegt!

There's always something lovely in the air around Christmas and it’s not only your living rooms and the shops that are decorated for the festive season. When out and about, the atmosphere is warm and cosy with the trees and roof tops full of fairy lights. There is nothing more enjoyable at this time of year than a walk in the enchanting landscape of Kijkduin, one of The Hague's beach resorts.

Wrap the children up warm and go and blow off the cobwebs in the beautiful dunes and along the wide stretch of beach. At Christmas time Kijkduin is beautifully decorated with Christmas trees and fairy lights. Whilst mum is browsing round the Christmas shops, the children can show off their skills on the children's ice rink. When everyone is worn out and hungry, you're made welcome with a hot chocolate and pancakes in Klein Seinpost! All warmed up with a full tummy, then back in the car to the centre of The Hague to finish off your day nicely at Omniversum. Here you are taken into different worlds. Swept away into fabulous adventures in the nature at large, it sometimes feels as if you are flying!

bestemming in Den Haag, Scheveningen

en Kijkduin en de badplaatsen. Maar ook

de randgemeenten Voorburg, Rijswijk,

Wassenaar, Wateringen, Leidschendam,

Nootdorp en Delft zijn met het open-

baar vervoer goed bereikbaar. Met

de komst van RandstadRail zijn er ook

prima verbindingen naar Zoetermeer

Fietsen

day ticket: valid for 24 hours If your stay in The Hague will be longer than just a day, you might want to take advantage of a 'Day ticket The Hague'. This is a convenient ticket that allows you unlimited travel within certain zones: The Hague, including Scheveningen, Rijswijk, Voorburg and Leidschendam. By paying just a bit more the 'Day ticket The Hague Plus' also include Wateringen, Delft and Nootdorp. Day tickets are only on advance sale at the HTM Customer Service Offices in The Hague Central Station and Hollands Spoor Station, the Tourist Information Office in The Hague and at the reception desk in several hotels.

non-rush-hour ticket If a single return ticket is all you need, consider using non-rush-hour alternatives: the 'Non-rush-hour ticket The Hague' or 'The Hague Plus'. The 'Non-rush-hour ticket' is a day-return

ticket that can be used from Monday to Friday when you have it stamped after 9am. On Saturdays Sundays and public holidays, it's valid all day long. You can purchase these tickets from the driver but it's less expensive to buy it in advance from HTM Customer Service Offices in The Hague Central Station, Hollands Spoor Station and Wagenstraat 35.

nachtnet On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, 7 different night buses operate from Buitenhof to town, Zoetermeer and Westland. You can purchase a ticket only from the driver.

parking Paid parking restrictions apply to many areas in The Hague, including the city centre and Scheveningen. For convenient and unrestricted parking, visit one of the parking garages. Parking garages are signposted. For more information: www.denhaag.nl/parkeren

bicycles With the exception of China, the Netherlands numbers more bicycles than any other country in the world. There are cycle paths all over to ensure the cyclists' safety. Cyclists are expected to signal any change of direction by hand. The Hague boasts several security bicycle shelters in different locations which we advise you to use. Bicycles can be rented from

the bicycle sheds at The Hague Central Station and Hollands Spoor Station.

theft Like everywhere else in the world, there are individuals in The Hague who are after other people's belongings. We would therefore advise you to keep a close eye on your belongings, wherever you are. Never leave anything in your car where others can see it and hide valuables. Always report theft to the nearest police station.

TAS (Tourist Assistance Service) is an agency within the Haaglanden Police Force which is dedicated to assisting foreign tourists, conference partipants and business persons who are visiting The Hague or Delft and who have been the vistims of crime or accidents. You can reach TAS bij calling (070) 424 40 00. (April-Sept. Mo-Fr 9-21h; Oct-Mar Mo-Fr 9-17h.). At other times, you can leave a message on the answering machine and you will be called on the following day.
