Per Cent for Art Scheme

Artist’s Brief

28/01/2020

Your submissions are invited for an artist project for St. Patrick’s Special School, Enniscorthy. This project will serve to enhance the new school building and grounds at Drumgoold, Enniscorthy. The building is due to be completed in June 2020. As the new school building is close to the historic site of Vinegar Hill, it may be appropriate to include a reference to this in the art project.

St. Patrick’s Special School was founded in 1969 and the school provides an educational service for 132 students with moderate to severe general learning disabilities, physical disabilities, complex medical needs and autism. The students attend the school from the age of 4 to 18years. Our aim is to foster the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and social development of each student in an environment that is based on Christian values and attitudes whilst respecting the religious beliefs and cultures of others.

The ethos of St. Patrick’s is that each student has the fundamental right

· To be valued as an individual

· To be treated with dignity and respect

· To be loved and cared for

· To be safe and protected from all abuse

· To promote these values within the school community and also our local communities

There are 21 class teachers, 46 Special Needs Assistants 4 nurses and 10 ancillary staff. The students follow the Primary school curriculum and the senior students also complete the Junior Certificate and follow the ASDAN education programmes. In addition to the ordinary school curriculum, we go swimming, play soccer, go walking, go horse riding, visit playzone and playgrounds.

At present the school is working on two sites in Enniscorthy, with the completion of the new school, the whole school will come together in a purpose built, state of the art campus that the students have been waiting for many years and indeed richly deserve. We look forward to receiving your ideas for art projects that may enhance our school and enrich the lives of all who enter it.
