Tag questions: gebruik

• Je gebruikt deze ‘tags’ om aan te geven dat je graag antwoord wilt. Te vergelijken met het Nederlandse “toch?”.– John is jouw broer, toch?

• Basis: als het eerste zinsdeel positief (+, zonder not) is het tweede zinsdeel negatief (-, met not). En andersom. Dus:– + , - ?of– - , + ?

Tag questions: vorm

• Vorm: vorm van hulpwerkwoord+ not + ond.– John is your brother, isn’t he?

– We are in trouble, aren’t we?

• Andersom:– We aren’t in trouble, are we?

(Hulp)werkwoorden:•To be•To have•Can•Must•May•Shall•Will

Staat er geen (hulp)werkwoord in de zin gebruik je een vorm van to do!

4.2 Korte vragen: isn’t she?, aren’t you?

• Onthoud:– Gebruik nooit twee keer not in een zin.– De ‘to be’-vorm van I is am, maar ‘amn’t I?’

bestaat niet! Dit wordt ‘aren’t I?’.
