Professor Elie Kedourie1926 -1992

Middle Eastern Studies deeply regrets the sudden anduntimely death of Professor Elie Kedourie, who died inWashington on 29 June.

Professor Kedourie founded the journal in 1964 and underhis inspired editorship it became one of the leadingjournals in its field.

Sylvia Haim (Mrs Kedourie), who has been the AssociateEditor of Middle Eastern Studies since the beginning, willbecome the Editor of the Journal and will continue to main-tain the high standards of scholarship and editing that Pro-fessor Kedourie always insited upon.

A full obituary and appreciation will appear in a later issue.
