I am an Industrial Product Design student at Windesheim University of applied sci-ences. I have a personal way of approaching projects. My best skills would be work-ing structured, have a wide range of ideation and generating ideas with a central focus on simplicity and functionality.

During my study I developed myself as an alround designer. I like the whole process of a project. Starting with defining the assignment up to the realisation phase of a new product. In a project I am always looking for a simple and functional solution. Because of all the projects I have done, my school gave me the oppurtunity to work on some amazing international projects with other international students from dif-ferent disciplines.

In this portfolio I collected the most relevant and interesting projects from my second and third year of my curriculum. You can click on the tabbs to go accelerated through my portfolio. Alarm clock

AssignmentMake an individual design of an alarm klock with Photoshop and a Wacom drawing tablet.

Work structureIdea sketches - selecting - 5 concepts - choosing concepts - foto-realistic final drawing

Vision In a design I am always looking for a simple and appealing form. I use the sketchphase to the fullest, to find this form. For this proj-ect, I found this basic triangle extrusion the most interesting. This form is further explored and developed. The result is a powerfull and robust design. When doing this assignment, I have learned a lot about working with Photoshop and drawing with a Wacom tablet.

This alarm clock is characteristic because of the original design, big speakers and the clean ap-peal it has. One of the most the most important things when I was designing, was to keep the simplicity in the product.

Spaceship

AssignmentModelling a spaceship based on a given 2D concept art drawing.

Work structureAnalysing shape - sketches - Modelling spaceship.

VisionDuring the beginning of the assignment, a lot was asked of my spatial aware-ness. First I analysed the 2D drawing and fixed those thoughts on paper by sketching. When modelling the spaceship, I have learned to work with surfac-es in SolidWorks.

POLE project

AssignmentCreate a future vision of the of the Internet of Things (IoT) for the client International Telecommunication Union in Geneva(ITU) , translated into an exhibition piece.

Work structureKick-off (searching direction) - choise: focus on user - research - specific direction ‘Humans vs. Rob(IoT)s’ - feedback & analyse - change direction in ‘Privacy & Transparantie’ - research - design and creating story for exhibition - realisation.

VisionAlready at the beginning of the week the focus was on the IoT user. We had a vision that humanity has to stay the same in the future. Based on this vision we have done research in more IoT related directions. After a broad research we were most inter-ested in the ‘lose of peoples privacy’ of the user thanks to IoT. We wanted to create awareness for the visitor. We designed the ex-hibition in such a way, that the visitor can encounter in an inter-active way. During this project I supported the team with doing analyses, research, sketching, creating ideas and designing the exhibition.

PaperFoam

AssignmentDesigning an innovative and new product for the medical sec-tor . The client was a company called PaperFoam. I used the VOORT-method to come up with this design.

Work structureResearch (in group) - analyse opportunities - brainstorming prod-uct ideas - select - work out chosen ideas - detaill phase (individ-ual) - realisation.

VisionThe project was characteristic because of the good groupwork at the beginning of the project. We did a broad and specific research as well. After that there was done research at vets, pharmacies, hospitals and general practices, we chose to focus on the com-fort of the childeren in hospitals. Children are scared for hospi-tals, because they don’t understand what will happen with them during their procedure. We came up with a process board, where children can see what will happen with them in a playful manner. PaperFoam was enthusiastic and has given a further look to the idea.

Female beauty

AssignmentImprove one of the ‘Female beauty’ products in three days for Phillips together with an international team during an international week.

Work structureResearch and analyse the problem – product ideas – feedback users – detailing – presenting

VisionTo get an good idea of the problems we went to talk to hairdressers because they are the most experienced users when it comes down to straightening irons. We concluded that there were a lot of problems and we brainstormed to find the solutions. We went back to the hair-dressers to ask for their feedback. We detailed the ideas and present-ed them. Thanks to our good analysis, the jury called us the winners.

AssignmentDesigning a better hardware sytem for a Duo roller blind for the company B & C Raamdecoratie in the second year of my curiculum.

Work structureResearch – ideas – selecting – concepts – choosing concepts – detailing – realisa-tion.

VisionAfter researching and analysing the problems we were searching for fitting solu-tions to make the roller blind more user friendly. It was important to have a tech-nical approach during this project. After a few selections we worked individually to detail and realize the product. The final product has a solution that has im-proved the child savety and control of it.

Campingtable

AssignmentDesigning a better adjustable campingtable during my internship at Fluctus Industrial Design & Engineering. Because copyright issues of the technical solutions, I can’t show everything.

Work structureResearch & analysis camping world – Ideas and testing – select-ing – creating a concept – make choices – detailing – realisation.

DevelopmentAfter many conversations with campers and visits to camping shops, I was able to make a good overview of the customers. Af-ter that the focus was on the technique, how could the legs be adjusted in one movement? With the solutions we found, we cre-ated several concepts. After choosing the best, we detailed and realized a working model.

Teapot Mächtig

AssignmentDesigning a teapot based on the characteristics of the Volkswa-gen Up.

Work structureAnalysis – sketches – making choices – shape variations – mak-ing choices – detailing – final model

VisionIt was very important for this project to analyse the car very well. I went to a Volkswagen dealer to get the chance to take a look at it myself. After the form study the most interesting points are shown in a collage. I made several idea sketches and I chose one of them. Using this sketch I varied a bit. One is detailed and I also made a model of it.

P27 Trackball

AssignmentA CAD shape model of a Trackingball converting to a technical correct model, during my internship at Fluctus Industrial Design & Engineering. The shapes were already set by Brightbird Design Centre, we worked a lot together with this company.

Work structureAnalysing comparible products - Intergrate soludtions - CAD modelling.

DevelopedWithin six days the CAD model is brought from a shape model to a completely technical correct model. The plastic parts are de-signed using the design rules for producing with injection mould-ing. The electronics are also developed to a level which shows the actions and devisions of the product.

Perfume bottles

AssignmentFor this assigment, everybody got a smaple of a female perfume. Based on the smell, we had to design a matching parfume bottle. After designing the female bottle you also had to design a male version.

Work structureAnalysis of the smell – Moodboard – Idea sketches – selecting – variations in models – make choices – CAD &physical model

VisionI would describe the smell as: ‘‘powerful, friendly, and flowery’’. In my opinion, the smell fitted with a friendly, helpful and also pow-erfull woman in the age category of +/- 50 years old. I made a moodboard to visualize the smell of the perfume. While analysing, I searched for a matching shape. After many nice ideas, I selected the best, after this I designed the male version with straight edges and rectangular shapes. The male bottle looks very robust instead of friendly and soft.

Now that the Minor All round Designer is coming to its end, we are still working to finish some interesting projects. Some of the projects are given below:

Working on

Working on 12

Serious gaming

For this project we are designing a serious game within the sub-ject ‘biomimicry’ . In my opinion a very interesting topic, where I would like to do a project about in the future. In a group of three persons we a are designing this game, which is to use in every brainstormphase of a project for each Industrial designer. With the help of this game you will find solutions which are ‘out of the box’, insiperd by nature.

Service Design

The assignment is to design a improved service for the pharmacy. For this assignment the research was mostly based upon talking with clients and employees of the pharmacy. Both sides were tell-ing that the waiting times were the biggest problem. We have an idea to make the waiting more pleasurable during visit, and to make this feel shorter for the clients.

Material Based Design

Designing a product (part) with the material starch.

During doing tests with the material, I have also mixed the mate-rial with water. With the right proportions, the mix is very interest-ing. when you move the material sowly, it is liquid. But when you move it abruptly, then it is hard and rigid. the combination of ma-terials will be integrated into a shinguard. The product will shape perfectly around the shin, because of the flexibilty. The protection will still be great.
