What is CEDARS?The Common Education Data Analysis andReporting System, known as CEDARS, is

North Carolina's PreK-13 State LongitudinalData System. The system is composed of

various DPI source data collection systems, astudent and staff identification system, a

    centralized data repository, and associated

reporting and analysis (or "businessintelligence") tools.

Why is CEDARS important for NC?

CEDARS supports NC's efforts to use highquality data about students, staff, programs, and finances to make policy and service decisions

that will improve student outcomes. Specifically, CEDARS will enable state, local, and federal

policy makers and service providers to analyze trends and relationships between variouseducational factors and student performance over time.

Establishing the Unique Identifiers (UID) for student and staff was the first step in the NC

Department of Public Instruction's (DPI) multi-stage effort to create CEDARS. These identifierswill enable matching of student and staff data across DPI data collections and over time. The

CEDARS Data Warehouse and Reporting System contains various DPI source data in a

centralized data repository. CEDARS will, over time, increase local capacity to track studentperformance and assist local educational leaders in making data-driven decisions.

From this site, you can access training and system registration for the CEDARS DataWarehouse and Reporting System and training materials and system registration for UIDStudent and Staff. Please check back often for updates.
