    Dear Co-workers ,I c

    This l e t t e r i s being prepared a few days' before the end of the month totry to get i t into the post before the t a r i f f rises which come into effectthen. The c o s t o f all i n t e r n a t i o n a l mail w i l l r i s e . A i r - l e t t e r s w i l l then beh a l f a g a i n a s much.

    We do thank you a l l for your lovely cards t h i s Christmas season,b e l i e v e t h a t we have r e c e i v e d more c a r d s t h a n e v e r b e f o r e .

    I d o

    This has been a busy past few weeks star t ing with the revival led byb r o t h e r Ron Hoffman. That r e s u l t e d i n ten a d d i t i o n s to t h e Kimberley Roadchurch. After and even during t h a t t h e r e were many Christmas seasonactivities. We had programs at the mental school, and the Old Folk's Home, Acouple of allchurch parties, the youth had a week-end rally, then there was ar a l l y with AlStheia Centre and the Christmas program for the church.

On the home front , we have also been busy. The t ranslat ions have beenconpleted, the type set and photographed for two new booklets, each in English,Xhosa and Zulu, a t o t a l of six. Three must also be reprinted as soon aspossible, one of them in a new edition which also necessitated a l l newnegatives. Only one is s t i l l waiting the camera and that because I ran out offilm b efo re I could do it. We a r e t rying a new type wheel for the wordprocessor and I think I will l ike i t in print much better than the old ones.

    Unfortunately, the word processor has been giving us a d i f f i c u l t time thepast few weeks. The serviceman has s t i l l not pin-pointed the problem and wea r e not a b l e to " e d i t " which simply means t h a t we can not c o r r e c t o r up-datematerial and can not prepare cert if icates or send out the marked books until wecan. 1 shal l phone yet again tomorrow. This i s the reason we pay thatoutrageous "maintenance" c o n t r a c t .

    All the South African m i s s i o n a r i e s have a planned mee ting schedul ed f o rearly this month, and I am programmed to present a message and lead adiscussion. I am not keen on t h i s p a r t i c u l a r subj ec t a s si gned, but hopefullyw i l l s u r v i v e . I unders tand t h a t some w i l l n o t be p r e s e n t f o r v a r io u s r ea so n s .

Physically t h i s has been and i s yet , a d i f f i c u l t period. I had a severesinus infection which poisoned my whole systan so that every weak part of mybody gave trouble at the same time. I was in abject misery. Most of th is hasnow cleared away, but the sinus has flared up again and now I have practicallylost my voice, (1 sound like a frog) and my stomache is acting up. (I am almostl iving on a n t i - a c i d t a b l e t s ) .I have decided to close the down-town book rocxn. There seems t o be littlereal advantage to i t being there. Too much time and money i s spent t ravell ingto and f r o . As we have out grown our present p r i n t shop, the b es t so lu tio n

    would be to find a l o c a l f a c i l i t y large enough to house both the prin t shop andal low f o r a show room and o ff ic e i n one place . The present s pa ce cou ld e a s i l ybe fully used for warehouse space. The fire inspector or insurance man wouldhave heart f a i l u r e a t the way we have conbust ible printed matt er s to re d near somuch e l e c t r i c a l machinery. (I always pul l the main switch to the e n t i r ebuilding i f I am not actual ly working there now.)Y o u r e s u s C h r i s t ,

"mountains", God sees f i t to send along some simple l i t t l e thing to l i f t up andencourage! This week th i s simple l i t t l e note was attached to a lesson book."PLEASE don*t relax , push on with your work. They worried when they see myce r t i f i ca te . They said "Why don ' t you t e l l us before?" I sa id , "Don't worryyours wil l come." Another l e t t e r ar r ived yesterday from a new minis ter say ing ,"Bro Mills I thank God t ha t you a re here in Southern Africa for your MissionaryWork. That ' s why 1 say so I remember your sermon a t the Conference in KingWilliams Town. Real ly it was a bui ld ing sermon."

We hope you wil l please share these news l e t te rs ! One church hasrecently ceased support for the work because they "never hear from us."Actual ly , we have sen t two Air Mail Lettergrams monthly for years to that smal lcongregat ion. I am sure tha t it i s s imi lar to another which once threatenedthe same when we v i s i t ed on fur lough. That same day t h e i r Missionary Chair ladythanked us fo r th e wonderful l e t t e r s she go t regu la r ly . We r ea l i ze t ha t a newminister who does not know us personally may reguard our l e t t e r as "junk mail"and throw it ou t , bu t p lea se j u s t pos t it on th e bu l l e t i n board o r sha re in ~some way. We write f i r s t class a i r mail from Johannesburg so that you may knowpromply any news o r praye r needs .

The Missionary Meeting planned for th is month had to be cancelled a t thevery l a s t moment as s eve ra l f am i li es were not planning to at tend. Two familiesof fe red to help w it h g as ole ne if we would cone to Umzumbe i n s t e ad . By doingt h i s , we were ab le to he lp with seve ra l odd jobs about the schoo l, see th e newchapel and c lass room which i s under const ruct ion , and to f ina l i se plans fo r usto go back in April so I can teach a week's seminar c lasses . 1 also took downa l a rge order of p rin tin g fo r the Mission and an order of books fo r bro the rN i c h o l s o n .

    We r e j o i c e wi th our daughte r Becky and pra i se God t h a t th e r e su l t s o f th elong days of tests in the hospital that Chris had this month were negative,though they still have no id ea o f th e cause of h i s i n t ense headaches. Afterevery concievable t e s t th e s p ec i a l i s t s agreed t ha t he did no t have th ebrain- tumor t h a t they had suspected and th ey simply have him on a spec ia lmigraine diet now. Poor l i t t l e Tommy, however has a te r r ible cough and a ttimes has gone blue in the face because he can not ge t h is breath . He i s beingt rea ted now fo r croop. Our daughter Donna went to the Dr b ec au se sh e washaving hear ing t r ouble and found t h a t she has a severe ea r i n f e c t i on andprac t ica l ly no hear ing a t a i l . Treatment has been slow to show any resu l t s .Phy l l i s and I r ana in wel l , pr a i s e God.

We pr in ted a r ep r in t of one of th e l e s son books t h i s month and acomplete ly new ed i t i on o f a no th er . James now has these assonbled and is busyf i l l ing the envelopes which I was f ina l ly able to get . I vaited over threeweeks fo r del ivery of these mail ing envelopes from the fac tory and a f t e rrepeated ly phoning and then try ing to ge t them a t a wholesale s t a t ione rs withno luck , 1 drove ou t to th e factory fo r a f ace to f ace meet ing . The r e s u l t wast ha t 1 came away with ten thousand in th e back of th e ca r . (Almost 1500 arealready used!) 1 also had a very pleasant meeting with a young "Christ ian"there in sales. I put quotes because he i s obviously of the tongues, fai thonly persuasion . 1 l e f t him with th e copy of a l e sson book I had taken alongfo r enve lope s i z e comparison.

    Another little no te we g o t t h i s month should be of i n t e r e s t . This onecame from Malawi and sa id , " I understand you do print Gospel t rac ts ind i f f e r en t languages. I have read some of th e t r a c t s , and I 've seen t h a t theyindeed contain something good fo r e ve ry da y's reading. I f your t r ac t s are notout of s tock , could you p lease send some in Engl ish so t h a t I should r e j o i c ewith my f r iends when reading than."

    We a re laying plans fo r t h i s month's necessary t r i p to Hopetown in theCape for the annual Minis ter 's Meeting and executive meeting. I t has beenplanned t h a t we wi l l meet th e c a r from Natal a t Bethlehon in th e Orange FreeSta te province from which I wi l l t rave l on to Hopetown with Lynn and Alvinwhi le Mrs Stanley and Mrs Nicholson wi l l ccmie back to Alber ton with Phyl l i s fo ra v i s i t . Bethlehem i s about 150 miles but f a r c lose r than Hopetown which i sabout 400 miles away from here. I was glad to be able to reduce the driving asApri l should see us re turning to Natal for the week's classes a t the UmzumbeBible Ins t i tu te . That wi l l be another 450 miles . With gasolene pr ices l i kethey a r e , a cos t l y t r i p .

I understand the School has a l a rge enrol lment th i s term and a number ofmature men to lend s t ab i l i ty as well . Brother Stanley phoned in an order forbooks they needed urgently to use in the classroom. I am rea l ly lookingforward to returning to the classroom, even i f only occasional ly for a week a ta t ime. I am holding back some o f our r ecen t publ icat ions which I plan to usefor those classes myself, as I am planning to stress the i r use in meetingc e r t a i n c u r r e n t m in i s t e r i a l problems.

A very t h r i l l i ng th ing happened t h i s month in t h a t th e Lord led us to aposs ible l ink-up between our word -p roce ssor and a phototypeset ter ! This wouldconver t our typewri ter cas se t t e s d i rec t ly to t ypese t t ing fo r proper pr in t ing .In fac t , it would appear, there may be two possibles! We are putt ing everye f fo r t to paying off the bala nc e o f our bank loan for the word-processor, jus tin case.

    Dear Co~Workers, APR 1 O 1981 Apr i l , 1981Anothe r wonder fu l month fo r the Lord, for which I thank God. I would a l so

    l i ke to t ake t h i s oppor tun i ty to thank all o f you who have made it po s s ib l e .Let me share with you jus t one of th e many l e t t e r s tha t comes to ray desk. "Asyou know t h a t I*m your f r iend in Chr i s t . I decided to wr i te t h i s l e t t e r to youto thank for what you have done for the people I to ld you to send them books ."The Engl ish may be f au l t y , bu t th e thought is t he r e .

    I had promised myself not to go in to f ur th er debt un t i l th e word-processorwas complete ly paid o f f , but the Lord kep t reminding me of H is p romise , " i f yoube l i eve , you w ill re ce iv e whatever you ask in prayer" Matthew 21:22 TEV. so Ihave s tepped ou t on f a i t h t h a t we s h a l l , and have purchased a t r aded - inCompugraphic 7300 phototypese t te r . The bank loan presented no problem a t a l l .This is th e smal les t Compugraphic with the d i sk recording f a c i l i t y , abso lu te lynecessary fo r t r ans la t ion work, and ca r r i e s 8 type s ty le s in numerous s izes of.rint in l i n e . I t wi l l round o ff our equipment and ba r r ing t o t a l break-down o fthe press o r co l l a t o r , we a re very well equipped for our type of work. We wi l lneed to b udget an addi t ional $450 a month fo r t h i s par t i cu l a r item over thenext 5 years. The a l te rna t ive typeset ter which a cc ep ted our word -p roce ssorca s s e t s proved to be f a r too expensive and a t the same t ime fa r too l imi t ed inoutput as well as being a problem should our W/P give t rouble, as i t hasa l r eady done on occas ions . I n c i d en t a l l y , we would have posted ano the r 2000packs of lessons t h i s month had we not run shor t on postage t h i s pas t week andhe ld over some of th e mai l ings a few days . P ra is e th e Lord.

On the home f ront we a re a l l well with the except ion of one grandson.Tommy ha s had a dread fu l cough fo r a month now, sometimes he even l o s e s h i sbreath and turns blue. We have been caring for him part of the t ime, and i thas been a g rea t worry to us. His doc to r now says t h a t he has whoop ing coughas well as a touch of pneumonia and t on s i l i t i s . As he has not been rea l ly s ickwith it, it is imposs ib le to keep him in bed .

    The Minis te r s meeting was a good ga ther ing though several o f th e minis terswere ill and no t ab l e to b e t h e r e , and some o f th e miss iona r ie s d id no t make itfo r various reasons. I was par t icu lar ly upset to hear tha t Jackson Johanne hadbeen so ill fo r th e two weeks p r i o r t h a t he could keep ne i t he r food n or w ate rdown the ent i re time. Jackson i s a h ighly respec ted older minis ter , he wasre t i r ed from th e mines even before he s t a r t ed min i s t e r ing . His lo s s w il l bete r r ib ly f e l t . Bro th er Cha rle s Setumisho, probably equal ly e lde r ly , i s alsose r ious ly ill. The two of than r ep resen t two of th e only th re e m i n is te rs wehave among the Tswana speaking people. Pray with us t h a t God wi l l lift upyoung men quickly to tha t minis t ry . Even the th i rd man i s not young, and inh is case i s a very weak minis te r as wel l . I keep praying t h a t perhaps fromamong our Tswana speaking correspondence s tudents wi l l come mature men who cant r a in quick ly . I t is ce r t a i n l y poss ib l e , and l a s t month we r ep r in t ed the f i r s tTswana booklet with promotional enclosures to encourage enrollment in tha tl anguage o f work .

    I have been working on mater i a l s and i deas fo r my Seminar c l a s s a t theUmzumbe Bible Ins t i tu te next week and have i t well organised, hopefully. Wesha l l be leaving Saturday, th e Lord wil l ing. The Bi l l Weber family wil laccompany us ins tead of our daughter Kathy, who has j u s t s t a r t ed a new job andc an n o t g e t away so s oon .Yoi

5 ^ ^The Lord has cer ta in ly blessed the work th i s month in th e most marvelous

way. TVo l e t t e r s came from fa r away Ghana to encourage. Strange th ings dohappen even these days. One l e t t e r read, "Please , about seven months ago, Ihave been doing some c ou rs e w ith you, but I have f in i sh the course , and postedit to you. But v^en I posted it, on the next day, I have read from thenewspapers that , the s taf fs of the post office have gone on str ike so those whohave posted t he i r l e t t e r s have been b urn by the s t a f f s of the post of f ice . So Ith ink t h a t course have b een b urn . So I beg you to send me a new course." I amhappy t h a t I could wri t e t h i s one, t h a t h is l e s sons were rece ived and sendduplicate cer t i f ica tes and new books. Another also from Ghana wrote, "I am sogra te fu l to God for Chris t ians l i ke you,, and for your di rec t approach to thewords and way o f b ring in g people to Jesus Chris t . ... I have got 25 peoplewhich they a re i nte re ste d i n th e good news. I have been preaching during churchservice and teaching Sunday School. ... May almighty God bless you and a l l mybro the rs in Chr i s t . " I pra ise God t ha t you a l l l abour with me so f a i th fu l lyt ha t I may be ab l e to he lp them.

    The seminar c l a s s a t Umzumbe Bib le I n s t i t u t e was a wonder fu l expe r i enceand I was also happy to be a ble to -h elp hang doors and i n s t a l l g lass in the newchape l and c l a s s bui ld ing . Brother Stan ley is now urging both bro the r Weberand myself to please come back fo r the Mini s t e r ' s Seminar sess ions a t th e endof t h i s month. I t is th e first t ime they have t r i ed t h i s . I would l i k e to bu tt rave l i s expensive and we have not yet ta lked about how to cover costs shouldI go.

    One unfor tuna te r e su l t of th e t r i p l a s t month was t h a t I came down withTick Bite Fever over the Resurrection weekend. I t was four days before I gota t t en t ion as I became ill a t th e s t a r t of a four day long-week-end when th e Drwas not in h is o ff ic e. When he re tu rned , however, I quickly responded to th emedicine. Now it i s a l l o ve r e xc ep t fo r the bi t e i t s e l f .

    Four days of t h i s week, I was complet el y occup ied with a t r a in ing coursein the handling of the Compugraphic. I don ' t th ink the simple course wouldhave been an3rthing a t all, but th e i n s t ruc to r had me br ing sample jobs o f ourwork and one was to "box" in some mate r ia l fo r th e t i t h e ca rds , e t c . He doesnot normally teach t h a t , but ins is ted tha t I must master it and complicatedt abu la t ion . I breathed a s igh of r e l i e f when he completed th e course and sa id Iwas on my own, but tha t he wil l s top one day to see how I am doing. (Also notrequired of him .) We actual ly s e t up severa l i tems tha t wi l l be a blessing tot h e work and now I c a n t a c k l e t h e book l e t s and tracts i n e a r n e s t . The re a res ix ready to be typese t . Today James f i n i shed a ss emblin g o ne t h a t we didbefore get t ing th e t ypese t t e r , and I still have ano the r on f i lm t h a t I wi l l dosho r t l y , bu t a f t e r t h a t we wi l l s e t up all mate r i a l on th e ty pe se tte r, th e Lordwil l ing . Brother Cook has also made enqu i r i e s about my using it to s e t " t i t l eover lays" fo r a l a rge se r i es of re l ig ious educat ional s l i d e s he i s planning toproduce . One l a rge s e r i e s is o f Bib le s t o r i e s , whi le a l a t e r s e r i e s wi l l bemore doc t r i na l i n na tu re . Apparent ly he has an ou t l e t fo r them through th eDepartment o f Educat ion fo r use in th e p ub li c s ch oo ls .

    We r e j o i c e t h a t we may have an opening fo r an answer to our prayers onb eh a l f o f t h e Tswana n e e d s i n t h a t I r e c e i v e d a call from a d enom in a t i o n a lchurch fo r a mini s t e r fo r them. Of cour se , we have none to spa re , bu t I haveencouraged them to send men to Umzumbe Bible I n s t i t u t e fo r t r a in ing andsuggested t h a t one o f our men near-by might be ab le to a s s i s t i n th e meantime.They a re a congrega t ion of 500 people and have enro l l ed 16 o f them in ourcorrespondence l e s sons . That is a good s t a r t in i t s e l f toward re s to r ing themto the New T e s t am e n t c h u r c h .

Dear Co-Workers, June, 1981JUN ^ 5 1381Following las t month's successful seminar class at the Umzumbe Bible Inst i tute, brother Stanley urged that I return for another week to teach the same materialto the Ministers who had been invi ted to at tend a refresher-course. I havetherefore just returned from another week at the institute. We had five menand one faculty member who attended my classes. James has gone down for thebalance of the course, but missed my week. This time, I went alone and to savemoney took the train and bus down. I t is an over night trip by sleeper train. Not bad at a l l since South Afr ica has compartment trains and I was alone in thecompartment. As Stanley's were returning to America for furlough at the time,I helped to drive their car back to Johannesburg and we saw them off at theairport yesterday. The rail line just past where I disembarked was landmined, but did not do much damage, and none to me at al l . I only susjjected i t whenour bus was held up by a road block near th e spo t.Since completing the course on the Compugraphic, I spent the next two weekssetting type for printing. This has been "captured on disk but has not beenprocessed as yet because I did not have the funds at the time for a newprocesser and am searching for a used one now. During that time, I managed toset up 8 books, 18 tracts and a few administrative cards. At least a dozen ofthe t racts are new t ransla t ions of t racts we formerly had only in English. I amkeen to get these printed, but i t will have to wait, probably at least untilnext week now. I t i s presently too cold to work in the print shop in any case.Amajor cause for the delay is that Ron Whianan has now left for furlough. Heleft while 1 was away, and a few days before he lef t , he confirmed my suspicionthat I would be lef t the responsibility for the Kimberley Road congr^ation. Ihave not had an opportunity to make full enquiries, but I know that there aremany "unfinished loose ends" that desperately need attention. For one, weexpect to be evicted from the present building and are not in a financialposition to build, at least not the plans he submitted to the municipality. Weare also too big for a home any more as attendance has been over 70 this pastmonth at least. Naturally, I s t i l l have my usual adult sunday school class toteach as well. The ladies are a lready lay ing plans for a D.V.B.S. to be held inthe Ju ly s ch oo l h olid ay s.Today's mail brought an interesting letter from Pretoria. "I met one of yourevangelists (I don't know his name) in Jo'burg one day. He is an old colouredman with a beard and a megaphone preaching the word to the people whom allseemed terribly disturbed by i t all. But he attracted me because I was on hisside. So we got speaking and he gave me your address. So I'm following up whatI promised I would do. If I want to get tracts from you, how do I go aboutdoing it?" One interesting thing is that I don't know for sure who the man waseither, though I have an idea as one such man has written me several timeslately and asked for tracts to give out. Praise the Lord, the printed wordr e a c h e s far and w id e .

Phyllis was disturbed that the sea air at Umzumbe did not clear up my cough asshe had hoped, but that does not bother me so much as the fact that I lose myvoice so frequently. I wonder how regular preaching will fare. I had sometrouble with my message at the Umzumbe church last Sunday, but managed ok. Itseems to be my streaning sintuses . Alergies, I expect.

PLANNED FURLOUGH DATES - April, May and June 1982 "^^^ ^Dear Co-Workers: July, 1981Phyllis and I are planning a necessary short furlough for April, May and Juneof 1982 As th i s i s only 13 Sundays, we will need to make maximum use of thetime with as many mid-week presen ta tions as possible. We hope you will le t usknow i f you wish us to come be with you and what dates will be acceptable toyou. There are many problems attendant with such a short furlough. One has tomake arrangements for house and property as well as the care of the work th iss ide, then tonporary accanodations and t ransporta t ion in America as well asplanning an itinerary. It is too long to hire a car and too short to buy one. This t ime, t ravel funds are going to be a major problem as well .James was away for most of the month to attend the seminar classes at Umzumbe, and he brought back glcwing reports of his time there and thanks to me for myclasses from those in attendance as well as the regular students a t theIns t i tute . I wish tha t we were just closer in order to be able to do somethingl ike th is more often, but funds and time make i t very diff icul t .This year, w ith conference to be a t the Bible Insti tute, I plan to take manymore tracts and books than I have been able to do before. Consequently, Ispent much of my time this month sett ing type fo r p rin ting and now have severalbooks and many tract translations set, proofread and ready for processing andprinting. Most of these were tracts we formerly had only in English. They willnow be a va ila bl e i n Xhosa and Zulu along with several new booklets as well. They will be introduced a t th is major gathering in Zulu/Xhosa terr i tory. Whatwith an extra required insurance bil l , the sales-tax bil l on the typesetter, supplies and the price of the processor for the photo paper, we are very shortof funds th is month or I would have these on film and be printing them by now.To complicate matters, no working funds or salary has arrived at all as yet.I t seems the bank has a new gi r l handling the account and she forgot us. Isent off two cables yesterday and hope to have immediate resul t s .Two vis i t s to the ci ty council and a phone conversation with Mr Lee theinspector and I have the firm promise of Mr Coetzee, the head inspector thatour plans for the building of the Kimberley Road congregation will be approvedimmediately. The next step will be much more difficult as no money isavailable from the building societies for loan just now and costs are spiralingconstantly. We have only a very limited amount of funds available, perhaps aseven th o f what is estimated to be needed for the ful l project. Please maketh i s a matter for u rg ent p raye r tha t th e s olu tio n I have worked out for theprobloB may work and that we can find a suitable builder. I propose building i tin two stages and leaving the second one until the f irs t is completed in thehope that t he f inancial situation may ease by then. The building is urgentlyneeded. I was asked to pr in t 1500 l e a f l e t s for the D. V.B.S. One wonders whatthey would do for space and teachers i f these brought a good response.Attendance a t Kimberley Road remains about constant .I am very sorry to report that brother Jackson Johanne passed away this monthfollowing a long illness. Brother Johanne was a leading Tswana speakingminister and h is loss is a tragedy to the work.Thanking you again for your prayers and support, I remain.Y^jirg'T^jIesus Christ, Mr and Mrs Raymond Anderson, F. FURLOUGH DATES - Apr i l , May, June 1982'9atAnderson's Phone (217) 328-2955 0Dear Co-Workers: August, 1981

Returning from Church services a t an outlying part of his ci rcui t on the 5th.of th i s month, James, and a large group of h is congregation was involved in at rag ic accident . They were t rave l l ing in an open t ruck which blew a t i r e on acurve. One of the elder ' s wives and a baby o f a nothe r family were kil ledoutright, while Mrs Mabaso had a badly wrenched neck and a gash on the leg.Their baby had a gash in the head, and h is mother a broken leg and backin jur ies . Another elder i s s t i l l in t ract ion from a broken hip. James himselfwas only s l igh t ly hur t , bu t has been absen t much o f the t ime t h i s month witht r ips to the hospital to see the others the funeral of the baby and now of theelder ' s wife. All the ranainder are now home with the excep tion o f the otherelder. This has l imited his help to me this month, plus the necessary time Ihad to take o ff myself to go to the d i s t an t hospi ta l to co l l ec t h is mother andtheir baby when they were discharged. I was kept waiting hours while theyf i t t ed a cas t to her l eg , and she had to be taken to her kitchen door inKatlehong township a t a very dangerous hour fo r me to be there in the end.

-Financially, it was a "diff icult" month when the telexed money was delayed so~that we had no funds for salary or accounts for a t leas t three weeks past theexpected time. This months funds a re also a lr ea dy nea rly two weeks l a t e . Wece r t a i n l y pray t h a t t h i s problem wi l l soon be so rted ou t. I th ink it i sbecause of the dest inat ion of the funds to South Africa. This cer ta inly couldmake havoc of our good c re d it r at in g , and delays the work we can do.The approval of the Kimberley Road church building plans i s now in hand and wea re p raye rf ul ly approaching as many build ers a s possible. Unfortunately therei s a financial slump and funds are not avai lable other than our own buildingfund. The attendance this morning, was 59. This i s about average with the lossof eight people to the States recently and another to follow shortly. Thismonths D.V.B.S. with an an attendance averaging somewhere in the 60's was heldin a borrowed fac i l i ty and t ransport was a problem. Please keep our buildingneeds in prayer; especia l ly as we could be evicted on a 30 day not ice . .I have been a sk ed to bring the mater ia l of my recen t seminar c lasses toconference and present it to a l l the men of the ent i re mission. (Nation-wide)This i s a privilege tha t I am greatly looking forward to . I was planning tomake a push for greater use of printed materials in any case and to take asmuch of our mate ria l a s I could fo r display and sa le .Much time has been spent a t the Editwriter and in proofing i t s copy, so that wea re ready to go to press with a considerable varie ty of printing when fundsju st c le ar so that 1 can afford film and print ing mater ia ls. Four English andthree Zulu new t rac t s were printed th i s past month and we learned a lo t ofthings in doing them that will benef i t la ter printings. (We used entirely newand different films and pla tes . ) There are l i t e ra l ly dozens of others ready togo to press as soon as fi lm i s in hand aga in . We also did the new cards fo rthe mission leaders , and the s tewardship cards th i s month, some 15,300 ofthose , plus off ice record cards for the Umzumbe Bible I n s t i t u t e ' s s tudentfiles. One project that I desperately want to get ready for conference is thenew i l lus t ra ted catalogue of supplies. I t i s not easy as we are adding newmaterial so fas t , but it must come out shor t ly. I hope to bring th i s one withme on fur lough fo r your in format ion a s wel l .We praise God fo r your prayers and support dai ly .

    3^3^PLEASE RESERVE US A SPEAKING DATE ,^-4THROUGH OUR FORWARDING AGENT ccp a 4 19o1June Anderson, 217 328-2955

Dear Co-Workers; Sept. 1981Brrr , with SPRING officially here and the public swimming pools actually open,a cold snap has descended upon us, and we are freezing cold. The water has beenfreezing every night, and there is snow in the mountains all over the country, even some not in the mountains. The only really warm place is in bed. We feelfor those poor people wh o do not have enough shelter or blankets to keep warm. Our own problems continue, and we are s t i l l battling the "lost" funds. Thistime i t is a bank draft misdirected by our bank, so we are desperately tryingto make ends meet. The July funds have sti l l not arrived, either working orsalary- I think the Lord is allowing us to be tested to see i f we will continueour work under adversity. With the approval of the Kimberley Road Church plans in hand, we have engaged abuilder since they have to be started immediately or start altogether over, andthe church has voted to proceed on faith. Already we are running Into problemsand the builder phones daily with new demands. Phyllis is sure that I willhave a nervous breakdown as I have been laying awake nights trying to puzzleout what to do next. He is presently preparing the site with a giant tractor, and blade and has set a time of ten weeks to completion of the first phase. Wehavedivided the plan into two phases of construction in order to use the f irs tportion as a place of meeting as soon as possible and to use i t as surity toobtain a loan for the balance. This section includes an entrance, kitchen, hall, two class rooms and toilets. The hall is slightly larger than the one wepresently rent. We are to do our own painting and provide our own lightfixtures for them to install. Our quoted price is about $3^,000 with anotherf"6verlooked"-t-ha-t-w4-l-l~h^-eto-be-^Grod. (Engineer and extra re-enforcingbeams-.-^The church has a little over $20,000 on hand, so please keep this needin your prayers that God may continue to lead us and open the way.I have been trying to prepare the needed printing for the annual missionconference, convention, which is only a l i t t le over a week away, but themissing funds have been a great handicap. We did finish the 12,000 stewardshiprecord cards needed and 1,600 each of elders and deacons cards. The la t te r arerequired under South African law for these men to trave l f reely and conductpublic services, especially on the fanns. We have also completed a number ofnew tracts and Sunday School lessons as well as a new catalogue of materials wehave available. James must sti l l assemble the latter. Today, I finishedpreparing the Treasure's report and this too, will have to be printed.Unfortunately an important part on the press snapped in half, but we have been"making do" with it . I hope v^e can repair i t when I get back from Umzumbe, assuming I can manage the price of gasolene for the trip at al l . Thedeteriorating condition of the press is a concern. It desperately needs to beoverhauled or replaced i f we are to take full advantage of the typesetter'scapabilities. Our collator is also acting up, hopefully just being"temperamental" because of the cold and a while not being used.We remain constantly grateful for your continued prayers and uplifting.Yours In-^Jesus Christ, Mr and M rs Raymond Anderson, F. (b yea r 1 oan a t 15%)Dear Co-Workers: OCT 1Soon af te r th e neivs 1e t t e r was posted l a s t month the cold in tensi f ied and wewere blanketed with nearly three inches of snow in Johannesburg. That is a"once or twice in a lifetime thing", and in Septenber too! I never saw so manysnownen at one time. Unfortunately such unusual weather brought a great deal ofdeath and in jury, mostly because of the slippery conditions on the roads. Onewoman was kil led by a snow bal l .Conference was the high-l ight of the month and we had a wonderful week offellowship and worship at Umzumbe Bible Inst i tute . Almost all of the mission"family" gathered there for I t , and each evening we had our own fellowship andprayer sessions. With our own furlough coming up during the year, I asked notto be considered th is year for the work as t reasurer , and they elected LynnStanley instead. This means that I am freed of all conference responsibil i t iesthis year, o th er than the printing of course. Our press is s t i l l "crippled" as I have not had i t repaired as yet, but Insteadhave been concentrating on one thing at a t ime. Right now the typesett ing. Ihave finished the input of the text for f ive books and have started the sixth;all s ince r etu rn ing f rcn Conference. When I have finished th i s one, thedirectory, and our catalogue, we should be up to date. The next step will berunning i t off on film and printing i t . Even James has caugh t up with me aswell. He has all books that have been printed, assembled. This year we took the tent-ccmper r igh t to the grounds of conference and usedi t as a book-stall . Vie sold, (a t cost of materials) hundreds of books thistime. I am amazed and r ea ll y g ra te fu l. We must find a way to take most stocksevery year. Of course, th is year, I taught about three hours of work-shop onhow to use printed material , with a l l the men of the church other than theministers. (I am sorry they could not have also been present.) The menresponded wonderful ly too. It j_s hard on the tent-camper though. Fi nanci al ly,i t is a very losing bat t le .Our bat t le with the "lost" money was f inally successful when June Anderson wentto the bank and insisted that they do something or replace i t . They made onephone call and the money moved on from New York to Johannesburg by telex. Sheis now personally seeing i t into the mail by registered le t te r , and we have hadno more problems. Thank you June, and praise the Lord. We have contacted atravel agent about our furlough travel and will presently need about $4000 forthat . If you would l ike to help, send designated contributions to June and wewill place them in our separate account for that purpose only. The builder has broken ground on the Kimberley Road (Johannesburg) Churchbuilding and by the time this l e t te r reaches you should be to the floor levelwith the foundations and slab. We are definitely proceeding on faith as thecost has escalated to about $15,000 more than the congregation has on hand andlocal loans have dried up ent i re ly . We had to have steel re-enforcedfoundations and a steel enforced ring-beam above the window level that we hadnot expected when v/e star ted. I t 1s estimated that in twenty years Johannesburgwill be as big as London is now. (8.5 million) This is an urgent need i f we areto continue and to progress fo r the Lord.We continued to give thanks for your remembrances in prayer and your supportfor th is ministry in an overwhelmingly needy f ie ld .YoursMTPjlesus Christ, Mr and Mrs Raymond Anderson, F. PRAY FOR OUR NEED FOR FURLOUGH TRAVEL FUNDS(Our bookings should have already been made)Dear Co-Workers, November, 1981The "sti l l crippled" press limps on, and we have printed f ive booklets andcompleted the loose pages for the year series of Sunday school lessons we havebeen doing a few lessons at a time for several months. I plan to bind these inpad fonn so that they may be removed one lesson at a time. I do have Chris, ourdaughter Becky's husband working on the broken rocker am, but the first repairbroke again as we tested i t , so he is welding i t with a stronger material-Nearly all the tracts and booklets we have in English have now been translatedinto Xhosa and Zulu, the two languages that James can do, and we have these allkeyboarded, f irs t copies run and proofread, editorial corrections made and areready for the second copy and the camera work, then finally the plates andpress. It is a long and tiring process but, they are greatly appreciated andmade use of by the churches. I presently have four more books and at least 22tracts waiting these final steps, and I ordered supplies this morning tocomplete than as soon as possible. Orders are already waiting for some of thesethat have yet to go to press.I would say that the time has come when we should have the services of atranslator able to work in Tswana, and Northern and Southern Sotho languages aswell as in Afrikaans. Such should be available, as the three African languagesare closely related and usually spoken in areas v/here the whites speakAfrikaans. Prayers would be appreciated that we can contact the right personand afford his services since we simply do not have ministers available whospeak these languages.Yesterday, I preached at a local circuit-rally at Natalsprult . After theservices were over, the people wanted to byy books. Unfortunately, I had nottaken everything they wanted. I must make some means of transporting a largervariety, even for such local meetings as well as Conference and Men's Week. Also, hopefully, we will be able to attend more such functions when brotherWhisman has returned to take over the ministry at Kimberley Road again. We are del ighted at the progress of the Kimberley Road church house. The wallshave reached the top of the v/indow level now and they will be starting theupper re-enforced concrete ring beam this week. We calculate that this beam orperhaps the gables, will be about where we run out of reserve funds. We haveone tenative offer of about $1000 frcm a local source, and our church t reasurerinsists that she can raise a personal interest free loan for a short period, sowe can continue at leas t for the time being. May God be praised. Our eldest daughter Kathy and two of her three children, the fourth is due thismonth, have moved into our home. Lee is away travelling and she had no fundsfor rent and board at th e r es id en ta l hotel they had been l iv ing in. We arehappy to have them, but i t will undoubtedly make a great strain on the smallhouse and particularly on the grocery budget. Hopefully, when Lee returns, hewill be able to arrange better acccmodation for his family. Shannon is havingto stay with friends in town to be near the school he attends as i t is . Beingseparated frcm his parents and brother and sister is particularly hard on himas he f ee l s ra ther insecure anyway.May God richly bless you for your remembrances in prayer.Yo!;*>s"Trrc^j;ist Jesus, Mr and Mrs Raymond Anderson, F.
